It's Star Trek and that isn't exactly - you know, the same thing as this.

Right. . . . Wait, I think I see something on the side.

[ And the video flickers on, the red light glowing softly. It focuses on two men. One in a wheelchair and the other right next to him, peering curiously at the camera before they step back satisfied. ]

Well, that’s over and done with. Hello to anyone who might be out there. My name is Charles Xavier and this is Hank McCoy. Apparently we’ve been kidnapped again, by an unknown force again for some mysterious reason.

[muttered:] Again. [and louder] So if anyone would be kind enough to explain exactly what's going on, we'd appreciate it. You have our thanks in advance.

Yeah, I - can understand that. Really well, actually.

[and that would explain the earlier conversation . . . ] Oh - I'm - I'm sorry to hear that.

Luckily, we're pretty similar to humans, so my cousin and I only had to make a few adjustments to fit in. The weirdest thing though—Krypton had a red sun, but Earth's yellow sun gives me my powers. Like a solar panel, kind of? Except all the energy comes out in different ways.

[beathach]

The sun gives you powers? [he says it like it's one of the coolest things he's ever heard. And lbr, it is] That's amazing . . . what do you mean, "different ways"?

Are you ready for the list? Because it's a long one, and everyone makes fun of it.

[ she prepares herself and then rattles off the list ]

Flight, invulnerability, x-ray vision, heat vision, freezing breath? Super speed... really, really good hearing...

Whoa . . . that's - why would anyone make fun of you for it? That's one hell of an impressive list.

Because it's kind of ridiculous when I say it out loud?

[beathach]

I don't think it's ridiculous. [but Hank is Hank, so he doesn't count]

[ she smiles sincerely. and maybe blushes ]

Well, thanks. I'm not really at full strength. Or anywhere near it, actually. The sun here is pretty far away, and I'm coming off of a period of no sun at all.

[beathach]

Ah. Well . . . I think they might be, uh - dampening powers, too? Charles can't use his to the full extent, and I haven't tried but I'd probably run into the same thing.

What can you do under normal circumstances?

[beathach]

Me? Uh - I have enhanced strength, agility, and speed. Senses too, but it's mostly - smell and hearing.

[he rubs at the back of his neck, looking off-screen] And - right now it's suppressed, but I'm usually a little more . . . blue. With claws and fur.

[takingkarabusiness]

As part of your mutation?

[beathach]

Right. I only look like this because I take something to normalize everything. It'll wear off in a few hours.

[takingkarabusiness]

Which do you prefer?

[beathach]

Honestly? I prefer this. [he gestures to himself, then shrugs a little guiltily] But I'm . . . better about it - er, being the other way. It just takes getting used to.

[takingkarabusiness]

Will you be able to make your serum here?

[beathach]

I hope so? I'm going to try to, anyway.

[takingkarabusiness]

I wish Alex were here. She might be able to help you. Otherwise, I'm not sure I know anyone who'd know enough to give you a hand. But if you need a lab assistant, I'm pretty reliable!

[beathach]

I - [wait someone wanting to help him out with this is sort of new. He blinks, before he finds himself smiling] I won't say no to an assistant - I-I mean, if you want to.

I need more hobbies, anyway. Let me know when you get assigned and settled in. I'm really great at holding stuff.

[ she smiles though. she genuinely wants to help ]

So what are your impressions so far?

[beathach]

[oh boy]

Well, it's - definitely not what I was expecting when I first woke up? I keep expecting someone to pop up and tell us the worst of it all, and . . . it hasn't happened yet. [he. makes a face] But that's more - we're used to the other shoe about to fall.

[takingkarabusiness]

There are things to not love here, to be sure. But it could be a lot worse? And I hope it doesn't go that way.

[beathach]

I really hope it doesn't either. I like that it's - not all bad.
