[Probably there are large chunks of the fleet too hungover to pay attention. If she were actually sure of his name, Katie might be polite enough to just direct it straight to the jerk in private, but she doesn't, so waiting until she's reasonably sure people might not be around is the best she can do.

You can find her pacing the loading bay of the Vanquish though. She's not overly eager at all.]

[Well, thankfully it's not a terribly long wait. As soon as he parks the shuttle and hops out, he's already reaching back to unclip something from his belt when he sees her waiting.]

Hah, I didn't think I'd have to go looking for you. Sorry to have kept you waiting this long, I ended up having to make two at a time.

[She's waiting with the utmost of patience! Not bouncing on her heels at all, nuh uh. but her curiosity is piqued for just a moment, for there are Jedi around--]

There's a pilot on my ship, Anakin, who uses swords like that where he's from. He didn't seem like the type to take no for an answer.

[And may blow up planets or something, whatevs. She's a little concerned, but tbh Kirito does have two lightsabers there. She holds her hand out diffidently.]

[Oh, right. He spins the saber's hilt around so it's facing her properly, offering it out.]

[Despite her eagerness, she's very careful when she takes the saber from him, closing her hand around the hilt and turning away enough so that she won't, you know, skewer Kirito if she accidentally turns it on. It feels weird to her. But probably it's all the tech that went into this thing, and she'll get used to it.

So Katie turns the hilt over carefully in her hands until she finds the switch, and presses it experimentally, ducking her head back as the blade flares to life.]

[Experimental swings are go. If it doesn't make the requisite lightsabery sounds from the movies, you can bet she adds them herself after the second swing. Vmm vmm.]

[He appreciates the distance, and he himself backs off a few steps to give her enough space to swing it around. His hands clasp together behind his head, and he nods with a grin.]

Right? It's not perfect, but it's pretty close, considering what we've got to work with, here.

How dangerous is the blade? Will it go through walls?

[This isn't exactly an eager question; she's actually being responsible and making sure of the damage she can and can't inflict, ahaha. But she's still grinning, face lit up.] And are you sure you don't want me to pay you? This took you so long!

The walls... can't say I've ever tried.

[And his tone is saying "you shouldn't, either". ]

I don't think the gun laser's designed to be that powerful, or we'd all be at risk of blowing holes in our ships. It does cut most stuff eventually, just depends on how heat-resistant it is.

And seriously, don't worry about it. Pay me back in swordfights. This sort of thing has to be good for ratings.

[Oh, that's a good point. It's made of laser guns. The walls should be safe. But just in case, she will actually be sensible and not attempt it.

...besides, if she really wants to go through a wall she can do that already. She grins.]

[More important, really. You don't want the kind of ratings that come from a photon sword accident.]

Full disclaimer: it'll run hot if you use it for too long at a time. The guns weren't designed for constant use without a cooldown, and I haven't worked out the kinks of that without lowering the power output too much. Because you're smaller, the blade is shorter and the heat's less intense as a result, but you still shouldn't use it without turning it off for longer than about eight minutes. And you should get a glove, too.

[She nods at every sentence, paying full attention for once, even if her hand is sort of just. Casually swishing the lightsaber back and forth a little. Though she turns it off again about halfway through.]

Gloves because it might get too hot to hold?

Gloves can act like sort of a safety net. It's not as if you're going to be standing around holding a stopwatch whenever you're using the sword, but using just your bare hands would mean you'd burn yourself too fast. With gloves, you'll know the blade's at its limit when you feel too much heat through the material. Make sense?

Ohh. No, I don't understand at all. [But she grins a little. S'okay, she gets it.] I'll just have to trust your word.

[So, gloves. She still has her mittens, but they're not really suitable. She'll have to go shopping after all.]

I found a nice pair at one of the shops in town. Next time you're off-ship let me know, and I'll give you directions.

[She makes a face at leaving the ship. On the other hand... gloves are useful.]
