Who: Makie and you?
Broadcast: Fleetwide
Action: The Windrose
When: 27th April.
[It's her first time on the network since she got here months ago. She's not much for being sociable, but hey. Makie has a couple of needs to be met.]
I'm looking to hire a seamstress. If you have experience with Japanese attire, that would be better, but I can provide my own clothing for reference. [She's from the 18th century and there's a distinct dearth of kimono out here in the middle of space, okay. Her one outfit can only go so far and it's already had to survive one dimensional hellhole.]
I'm also curious as to whether there are any swordsmiths or equivalent among us. If so, I'd like to discuss a commission.
Thank you.
---------
[Speaking of said kimono, it's washing day. She's clad only in the patterned red hiyoku usually worn under her purple kimono, and while she washes it in the privacy of the bathroom by hand, she can be found hanging it out to try in the cargo bay. It's not as voluminous as some as her sleeves are kept very short, but it's nice to have the extra space. Makie will stay nearby, looking hopefully for any answers on the network and drinking her tea. As always.]
video
[It's been a while, says the tiny guy who looks like a 12-year-old girl. Don't question it, Makie, it's eaiser that way.]
Do you have your measurements available, or would you like me to meet you?
video
...this place is full of surprises, same as Adstring.]
I don't have my measurements, no. [She's pretty sure they've changed drastically in the past six weeks anyway, now she's started to put weight on again and has stopped being so gaunt.] But I would appreciate a meeting. I could pay you for the use of the material, too.
[She'd found some, but maybe this means she can get some variety.]
Thank you. My name is Otono-Tachibana Makie.
[Gesundheit.]
video
Wherever works best for you is fine by me - I'm stationed on the Caprine, and spend some time on the Iskaulit for the most part. Payment isn't a big deal, we can figure it out as needed.
[He definitely hadn't skimped on fabrics when they were at the last couple of stations, not once he found them.]
It's nice to meet you, Otono-Tachibana. I'm Qing-Yuan Zhu.
[Double gesundheit.]
video
Likewise. I can certainly come to visit you-- I enjoy a chance to leave my ship where I can.
Are you from... the continent? [Ah--] China.
video
[He blinks at the question, then laughs lightly.]
I was born in China, but my parents moved to America when I was very young. Had you been there before, then?
video
I suppose it's nice to meet other people whose home is reasonably close to my own. But if you moved to America, you must be from many years ahead of me.
video
[Imagine what he could say about the technological advances, hoo boy.]
video
I believe you're some three centuries in the future from my own time. [She eventually translated the era into modern timekeeping just so she had a basis for comparison.] That probably highlights why I have such difficulty finding suitable clothing out here in the reaches of space.
video
video
A kimono certainly doesn't impede me when I have to get things done.
[Then again, hers is short-sleeved and has more freedom of movement for her legs than many.]
video
I don't mean to say that there's anything wrong with it. Actually, even in the 21st Century, Japan relies pretty heavily on kimono and yukata.
As long as you can work with what you wear, that's all that matters, right?
video
That's right.
Could I come to visit this afternoon?
[Once her kimono dries properly.]

I dunno any swordsmiths, but my friend Rarity back home's a GREAT designer! I don't think I've heard of "Japanese" attire before, but I bet she has, and if she hasn't I bet she'd LOVE a whole new project!
Ooh! I DID get an engineering augment thingy, though. You think swordsmithing counts as engineering?
Video
Okay, then.
Staring is rude, so she musters a bewildered smile after a moment and rolls with it.] I think swordsmithing and engineering might have some similarities, but it would depend on the weapon you're making. My security officer here would likely make great use of engineering to make her own sword, for example, but mine is a lot simpler. [In terms of materials, anyway.]
You must be new. Hello.
((ooc: I'm so sorry it took me forever to get back to this! Life is ridiculous right now. D| Bear with me))
Shhhh you're fine!
And yes indeedy! I'm Pinkie Pie, what's your name!
<3
Welcome to the Fleet, Pinkie Pie. [What an odd name.] My name is Makie.
[She kind of tries to spare a lot of people her full name these days.]

Nice to meet you, Makie! Hm... should probably look up some stuff since I've never made a sword before, just flying bikes and one-pony band suits party cannons! Swords are WAY different, though! And probably need to build stuff to MAKE it in! I should probably ask the captain about that! So what does your sword look like back home?
no subject
...gosh, life was much simpler in Japan 8|]
Ah... it's not a traditional sword. I think I might have to draw you a picture. [Which won't take her long, as she was in the middle of sketching it anyway, given her request for commissions. But in the meantime--] It's a three section pike with two blades. Please give me a moment.
[Some rough linework going on in the background here-- there. She holds up a rougher version of this picture. Minus the musical instrument.]
no subject
[Show her the musical instrument sometime, though. She'd probably love to learn how to play it, and it might be fun to try a hoof as a luthier.]

It seems there aren't many skilled in making weapons on the fleet. I shall have to do without for a while, I think.
no subject
[Maybe a local weaponsmith can make it one day.]
no subject
It sounds like your skills lie in more interesting creations in any case. May I ask... how difficult is it to make a flying bike? [Because that sounds more complicated to make than a sword tbh.]
no subject
[Pinkie puts the communicator down for a sec, but still at an angle where Makie can see the pony. Then she unrolled a small piece of blueprint paper and started drawing on it... with the pencil firmly between her teeth. Gotta make do without digits somehow.
It's only a couple of seconds before Pinkie holds the shematic up to the feed.]
See?! It's kinda like a regular bike, but the pedals turn the propeller and then you switch out the wheels for landing gear! It's also GREAT for sledding!
no subject
...it looks like fun. You have one of these at home, then?
