[The video turns on to see a bunch of fabric. A keen eye might notice it looks kind've like a skirt. A knowing eye would recognize it as mage's robes. The man holding the communicator isn't paying it any attention beyond having picked it up, he's too busy making kissing noises as he searches the too empty ship.]

Pounce! Ser-Pounce-a-lot! Here, kitty!

[The tone of voice he was using was higher and probably sounded a little ridiculous.]

Please don't have gotten into any trouble...

[But there was definite concern in his tone as the man searched for his missing kitten.
At least until his step staggers and then stops and there's a catch in his breathing that could nearly be called a gasp.]

Well...would you look at that...

[Not that anyone could with the screen still faced away, but Anders had no thought for the device or much of anything aside from his kitten and the large window displaying the vast emptiness of space before him.]

[Unsurprisingly, that catches Kitty's attention. She raises and eyebrow, smirking a little as she responds, knowing she isn't the "kitty" in question.]

You called?

[He nearly drops the device for the startle the voice gives him, but he manages to recover quickly and turn it so it's properly facing him...and he can see the pretty lady talking to him.]

I...didn't? I mean, not that it's a bad thing to have called you, if I did, but it wasn't my intention, sorry. I was looking for my cat.

[You know, before space happened.]

Who are you?

[It's not her first time being a first responder and startling an unsuspecting new arrival. She just waits for him to adjust.]

Yeah, I kind of figured. That name's Kitty. Kitty Pryde.

And in a way you called all of us. Everyone in the fleet at least. [She knows it was unintentional, but he might as well know why people will start responding soon.]

[ WELL THAT'S... different. lioriley just watches silently for a few moments, speaking up only when she hears the audible gasp and finds that she can't really see whatever anders is staring at off screen. is it the "kitty" he had been looking for? ]

Have you found something interesting, ser?

She knows that voice too well, still hears it sometimes in dreams of fire and blood and demons towering high in a sickly green sky. It makes her cringe, muscles tense and coil as though ready to run, flee to the farthest point of her ship - not to hide, Marian Hawke doesn't hide, but do something though she has no idea what. Maybe clean the droids or start writing a book? Or find some new bandages? Something, anything, other than staring at her communicator listening to Anders call out for his cat -

His cat? He still has his cat? Maybe she should be relieved but something knots itself tighter, wiggling around enough to make her feel ill. If he still has his cat it means he hasn't come to Kirkwall yet, which means he hasn't met Hawke, which means he'll have no idea who she is. Great, just great. Before she can stop herself the champion groans, head falling into the bandaged palms of her hands. ] I need a drink, or twenty. [ Swallow it Hawke, push it all down. All the anger, the betrayal, the heartbreak. He won't get it, won't understand, and it isn't... Maker's balls it isn't right to punish him for something he hasn't done yet - isn't it?

It'd be easier if he knew, easier if he was fresh off Kirkwall burning because then she'd know how to deal with it. Deal with him. Easier to yell and throw her hands up and punch him in the Maker damn jaw for all the pain he caused her. But no, no, for some damn reason the fleet keeps bring him to it before he has the chance to do all that, brings him from when he was happier, reminding her of the man who used to make jokes and chide her when she showed up at his clinic in the middle of the night bleeding (from both wounds of her own making and that of those inflicted by devious thugs.)

What a funny sense of humor they have. ]

Ah, well, that explains that one, at least. A pleasure, Kitty, I'm Anders. And new to this whole thing, as I'm sure is painfully obvious.

[Aaand of course he just made his hellos to all of the strange people here by calling to his cat. Well, at least he wouldn't have to make a sign now saying 'If you find my cat, please return him to the resident mage.'

Time to do the only thing he knew how to do in most situations.]

I do like to make an entrance, never do anything half-way, as it were.

Unfortunately, I don't think pets go with us when we leave our homes.

[Which is sad really because she could use some nugs to brighten up her room on the Heron.]

[Ah, yes, those 'other people.' Anders fumbles with the device briefly but then it's righted and he has on as charming a grin as he can muster while still off-kilter about this whole thing.]

Well, that for starters.

[He helpfully moves so the window is in view as explanation for his wonder.]

In all my experiences with being taken places against my will, this one likely wins for best view, I have to give it that.

[ she chuckles softly. ]

I take it you, as with many others — myself included —, have not seen the view from space before now? 'Tis quite the impressive sight, if not somewhat intimidating. [ even now, she thinks, after being here for so long.

a shake of her head dismisses his apology, and the elf smiles. ] Hello, and welcome aboard the Fleet. My name is Lioriley — and you are...?

New? Really? [Okay, she isn't even trying to feign surprise, but she's not trying for mean either. There's a soft smile.] You're on the Marsiva. It's a give away even when nothing else is. [Though you could be there because you were returning too.] You'll get transferred onto another ship in a week or less. Perfect chance for a second grand entrance.

[At least he doesn't jump or fumble the communicator for this one, this time he's ready...except not because he doesn't understand what she's talking about.

Just another pretty face that he puts on a smile for.]

Twenty might be a bit much, I prefer to start my day with five and work my way up, but maybe you're an overachiever.

[He doesn't bother to hide just how put out he feels about that. He finally had a cat of his own, a gift no less, and now he was here without him.]

I don't suppose...I mean, he'll be fine, right? He's just back in Thedas is all, probably in the keep. Yes, I'm sure he'll be fine, Nate or Sigrun will take care of him for sure.

[He maybe slightly feels better about that. Slightly. He's going to miss his cat.]

Excellent! Then I'll have time to plan that one.

[He clearly takes no offense to her teasing, if anything it's a comfort. He'll take humor over just about any other option he's got right now.]

So, then, since you're providing answers for all my unasked but inevitable questions, is there anything else I should know? I certainly don't mind listening to a lovely lady like yourself.

No, I haven't. [He shakes his head and gives the abyss another lingering look before giving her his attention, as was only polite when dealing with a complete stranger in a strange place, even in space.]

Anders, a pleasure, my lady.

[His smile changes a bit in response to hers, turning a shade less from charming into something more real.]

I'm not certain in...situations like these, seeing as it's never happened to me before, so I don't know if it would be rude to ask...so I suppose I'll simply ask and hope for the best. You're not from Thedas, are you? You're an elf, but seeing as all of the stars are currently lined up outside this window, it'd be a bit small-thinking of me to assume we come from the same place.

[ Hawke flinches uncontrollably, sucking in a sharp breath. Now that he's talking to her everything feels a lot worse, sharpened by the lack of recognition in his voice. It doesn't feel good, like the sharp end of her staff stuck in her gut.

Still Hawke is Hawke and takes it in strike, swallowing everything and lifts her head to laugh. ]

That all depends on what you're drinking. Take the ale at the Hanged Man, it is incredibly watered down. You need more than fire to even start feeling tingly.

I'm sure your cat is safe at home, right where you left him. Or... something. I don't know how this time bullshit works, but it works.

[He's not sure Anders remembers him, so he treads lightly this time.]

[He's settled down by now, sitting somewhere near that big window, with one hand playing with the hoop in his ear absently.

There is a complete lack of recognition in his face when he answers, only that edge of concern for his missing cat.]

Hopefully. He was in my robes before...this, so I'd hoped...oh well. He's probably far safer there than here anyhow, I can't imagine cats do well in space.

[How people did well in space, he certainly didn't know.]

[This time it's Anders who flinches, his smile faltering as he wracks his brain for why that name sounded so familiar. He'd heard of the Hanged Man, but why? It wasn't a place in Denerim or Amaranthine, was it? No, he didn't recognize the name from the sound of it, more like he'd read it somewhere.

A letter, one he'd read over and over so many times, the paper had creased horribly but the words were etched into memory. He plastered on a new smile only a second after the first one fell, remembering he was supposed to be joking around here.]

You're from Kirkwall, then? I was going to say you sound Ferelden, but considering we're in the middle of space, it seemed presumptuous.

Good to know we're on the same baseline for drinking tolerance in this figurative drinking binge. So, what about the ale here? Better? Worse?

[Look, Anders, it's your bestest best best friend and he's so happy to see you!

...No, wait. The opposite of that. ]

[WHEN this Anders from doesn't really matter to Fenris all that much. Considering how he's reacting to everyone else...probably before Kirkwall. That's just annoying. It's a lot easier to tell the man to go fuck himself when the man in question knows who his insulter is.

Life continues to be needlessly cruel. ]

[Nothing. He's a little disappointed-- maybe-- but he quashes that part quickly. It's important to start off on the right foot and not fuck up like he did before. There's not much to be done about Anders and Fenris, as they've never been friends, but there's no reason for Varric to be hostile about things Anders hasn't done. He'll still do them, but that is years from now, and there is something distinctly unfair about holding him accountable over things he can't control. Part of him still wants to save someone he once considered a friend, and boy, it's hard to ignore loyalty.

Of course, Varric blames himself for Hawke's death in a darker timeline but that's different.]

Better here than Thedas. Some panhandler would probably eat the poor thing.

[Ah, she remembers you, Anders. He greeted her when she first came here and bought her a drink. But it doesn't seem like he remembers his time here. A shame, but it happens.]

They robbed me of my dog as well. I'm afraid your cat will be nowhere on that ship.

[His favorite thing: being unwelcome before he's even bothered trying to be welcome in the first place. Usually it's the robes or the staff that earn people's ire. Right now, it seems to simply be his face.]

While that reaction is hardly new, usually I have to have been somewhere before to be unwelcome the next time.

[Why is this weird angry elf mad at him? Maybe he wasn't a cat person.]

[Hers was not a face he expected, but seeing her brought a smile to his face brighter and more honest than any he'd given so far.]

Ah! A familiar face, at last. With my luck, it would have been the dwarf or Velanna, but you are a welcome sight, Commander. Or, perhaps instead, Your Majesty.

[He offers as best a bow as he can offer over the communicator, but any effect it might have had was ruined by the teasing in his tone.

[He seems almost offended by the notion that anyone might eat his treasured cat.]

They will not! I'll have you know Ser-Pounce is a fighter and he'll take off the nose of anyone who tries to eat him.

[Now that that's sorted, the affront passes and turns to thoughtfulness.] Besides, I'm sure Nathaniel or Sigrun will care for him. And Justice would at least protect him...I doubt he'd know how to take care of a cat.

[But he's rambling. He catches himself and gives a slightly apologetic look.] Not that it really matters, I suppose. Sorry, I'm always told I have no manners. I am Anders.

[A momentary panic crossed over her face. Her bring queen is something she's kept to herself with the exception of three people. So how...?

But then it registers that he also called her commander. And he knew her. And her confusion turns into a feeling best ascribed as "oh boy".]

...well then. Uh, Anders. Did you meet me in Thedas? Yes, a stupid sounding question but not as stupid as you might think.
