[ last time he posted anything, he was a nervous wreck and kind of nauseous. the changes the past two months have left in him are impossible to miss; winn is smiling, upbeat, and almost comfortable. the nervous energy that is there has more to do with his addressing a bunch of strangers than the constant fear of death by space-stuff that overshadowed his first feed. ]

Hi, if we don't know each other - I'm Winn Schott. If we do know each other...I'm still Winn Schott - [ shaking his head, why hasn't he learned from the last time? prepare a script! ]

Anyway! I've been here for a couple months now, and it's been interesting - and I mean that in the original sense of the word. Think about it - not only are we in outer space [ there's only a slight wince at that, and even a lot of excitement. space is terrifying - but it's also really cool ] - but we have a once in a lifetime opportunity to reach across the multiverse and learn things that haven't even been dreamed up in our worlds yet. I've been learning - a ton from just casually talking to people, but there is a much better way to do this if we all cooperate, [ open source. it's the way of the future! ] and I know I'm not the only one out there who's interested!

So, I've got a suggestion for anyone who thinks that's really cool - and - pity for anyone who doesn't [ and by pity, he means judgment. he gestures excitedly with his hands as he introduces his brilliant concept ] - 2016: A Space-Time Odyssey - a series of free weekly lectures about anything and everything we've got here. Talks about different worlds, science, history, art lessons, concerts - I know we've got some musicians here - basically anything anyone signs up to talk about, teach, perform, or however you communicate things where you're from. Since we don't have a lecture hall we can broadcast the talks - give ourselves a fun routine....and if that doesn't work for someone, I can post the notes I'm so gonna take of all of these. Who's in? Who wants to go first?

No, I suppose I have quite remiss in that regard! My apologies - Maglor, at your service.

Don't worry about it, happens with pretty much every other I meet. It's too tempting to jump into conversations when they're half started like they are on the network.

[ which is why he got introducing himself out of the way first: he knew he'd forget all about it once he got talking. ]

I think many of us have fallen into that trap! Do you prefer Winn or Schott?

It's a good trap. [ he nods ] Winn, but Schott's fine too.

[ pretty much anything but 'winslow', 'junior', 'toyman' or 'toyman jr.' works for him. ]

Young Master Winn then. [ Maglor tips his head in a polite bow ]

I confess, I am looking forwards to learning of the other worlds.

[winn]

[ 'young master' gets a ridiculous smile out of him. it makes him feel like a character in some epic. or bruce wayne. ]

Just Winn's fine. [ he actually feels like very old master winn around here - surrounded by kids with more maturity than he'll likely ever have. ]

Oh me too, we may as well make the most of this - it's a chance of a lifetime.

I will try to remember, but you will have to forgive an old elf who is stuck in his ways. Either way, I agree - this is a fine opportunity.

[ his expression sort of freezes for a moment, as he processes this new information. ]

Elf? [ he doesn't look like the santa-helping kind, but hey you never know. ] As in...immortal one with nature? [ seems more the type. ]

So Men have always called us. [ A small wry smile quirks his mouth ]

I suppose we would be considered immortal, comparatively. But we can die as easily as any. And I do not know about "one with nature" - although if any of the Silvan were here you might have better luck.

[ his eyes actually sparkle with excitement, and he leans a little forward into the frame. ]

How old are you?

By your reckoning... I am, I think, some nine thousand four hundred years, or so.

Over 9000!

[ no, he couldn't really help it, sorry man. elf. ]

That's -- wow -- and is this your first time in an alternate dimension?

It is, yes - I did not know there were other worlds... or, my apologies, you said dimensions?

We've sort of been using the words interchangeably. So in over 9000 [ not getting over that anytime soon, sorry ] years of life, you've never encountered anything like this? No myths about people disappearing to strange other realms? Nothing?

[ their ability to keep their operation secret is as admirable as it is horrifying. ]

Ah. A little imprecise, but practical, considering the vast array of places and times folk must be from.

[ He shakes his head ] Not unless you consider death to be so!

Imprecision is a pretty expected side-effect of people being sucked in from all over the multiverse - unless we create a unified generally accepted terminology - and that just sounds exhausting.

[ shaking his head. that's one project he'll leave to someone else. so far, he's managed to understand most everyone and he's pretty sure that his explanations got through to them as well. so their terminology is all over the place, whatever.

the mention of 'death' hits a little too close to home, and he shakes his head again, eager to let the topic lie. ]

Not unless you got postcards from the afterlife. What's your world like, technology-wise? [ flawless transition. flawless. ]

What is a postcard? [ Maglor tips his head curiously ] Is that a thing, in your world? The dead have little to do with the living, in mine.

As for that - I fear we are far behind, although I see things that are like concepts that are being developed in some places, I think.

No, no - that - was a joke. [ awkward smile is awkward. ] Postcards are just a thing people send home when they're on vacation - it's got a picture of wherever they are on the front and space on the back to write some personalized note.

[ although!! if vampires are real, and shapeshifting wolves are real, and aliens are real, and banshees are real, and magic is real, and elves are real - why shouldn't ghosts be real? ] Though, ghost lore is actually pretty extensive, so yeah - maybe not as much of a joke.

[ he shrugs. he'll believe it! ]

Ah... I had not thought Men were permitted such acts! But then my folk are not technically supposed to either.

Well - the concept of running water the elves in Tirion where I was born, had certainly begun, and some of those concepts have been carried forward by others. Electricity I do not know, but I know some of the dwarves were experimenting with ways of moving things via water and steam.

Men in general aren't particularly good at the whole 'waiting for permission' thing...

[ theirs is an impatient immature species, and all. ]

So you're -- actually going through the same technological revolutions we did? [ that is as fascinating as it is unlikely - vision was right, their worlds have to be connected somehow. ]

[bythewaves]

You do tend to be bolder and more like to rush into things.

[ Maglor observes fondly ]

I would not call them revolutions? Bear in mind - in Middle-earth we have been in various stages of war for several thousand years - there has been little time nor inclination to look into many of these things, but perhaps in the peace of Valinor... I do not know.

[winn]

That's our motto -

[ nodding ]

I'm sorry -- [ war. again. why are all these worlds at war. why is this the universal common ground? ] but, hey, in my world -- a lot of the advancements came from war, and were just - developed and modified for civilian uses during peace times. So, something may come out of it?

[bythewaves]

[ Maglor shakes his head ]

War comes to all who would stand in the path of Shadow. I suppose we can but see where Men will take the future too.

[winn]

[ Another shake of his head ]

I will be there to watch, I think - but the time of the Elves is over. We are leaving, my people. Only a few of us will remain. It is for Men to shape the future.
