[By and large, Katie hates this moon.   It made her sick when she first got here and she's largely shunned it ever since.  Today marks the first day she's voluntarily gone out in it.  Why? 

Because she has a lightsaber.  And she wants to practice with it and swing it around and generally have fun with it and maybe cut down a few sickly dead branches.  And while she could do this in the cargo bay of the Vanquish easy enough, out here she has to wear a mask.

A mask and a lightsaber is just too much to pass up, oh my god.  She's found a black one, which in fact looks nothing like anything you might find in Star Wars, which is probably for the best all round, really.  But it's black, and it's the best she can do, and if you head into the gloom of the smog this fine day you might find a small child waving a pale white lightsaber around that makes all the appropriate lightsaber sounds and doing her best to make breathing sounds like Darth Vader because black mask, and to be honest if she's not quoting some part of some lightsaber battle when you wander past it'll be kind of surprising.

...unless you are of course recognisable as a Jedi and thus she'll choke on her breath pretty quickly and turn the saber off and look as innocent as she possibly can.

On the bright side, it's clear to anyone with any powers of observation she actually knows how to use a sword and is taking care not to cause any accidental damage with it.  So... bonus?  It's just a small child having fun.  Vmm vmm.]

But really, she's little-girl mad because no harm was really done, so Katie's sulking and a little panicky over things that probably are okay. Giving her time to cool off and speak to others in between may be a good call.

He can come catch her on the Vanquish later if he wants.]

[Bigby gives her a couple of days before he comes looking for her. He doesn't have much experience with actual children, so he figures if she hasn't cooled off by then, she isn't going to without intervention.]

[He won't have to go far to find her. She's in the cargo bay, playing... uh. Hopscotch. It's hard to draw out a grid on the steel floor, but she's found a way to mark it.]

[She glances up, not at all surprised to see him here. You're a huge walking glamour battery. In person, it's much harder to be mad, but she's still more subdued than usual.]

[He digs in his pocket. He always has a random assortment of stuff he's picked up along the way, this time he manages to find a fairly smooth and round stone which he offers out to her for her game.]

So, I have no idea why you're upset at me. Just so you know. I've been assured by most people I know that I'm the most insensitive lout you'll ever meet.

[It doesn't mean he'll offer an apology regardless, but he doesn't know why she's annoyed at him.]

[But after a moment, eyeing the stone, she reaches out to take it. Considers.]

Yeah, most likely. I'm a lone wolf, I consider the fact I don't eat sentient beings to be about the height of tact.

[He sits down on the floor to watch her play.]

You own a cat. A magic cat, clearly, since it knows to go after people who shit you off. All little girls do.

[Oh. Well, that's a good cover story. And the apology is all she really needs to settle the last of her fluttery annoyance.

So she smiles, even if it's only a small one.]

Yeah. I get that. I suppose... get used to all us Fables knowing each other. I know names have power, but we forget, because we all know each other's names.

[He pulls out his lighter, fiddling with it idly, striking it and smothering it.]

I remember kids playing that in the streets once. Hop scotch. There was a song they sang with it...

[Her tiny smile gets a little wider, curling at the corners.]

There's quite a few different songs. Step on a crack...?

[He shakes his head.]

One two, buckle my shoe. Three four, knock on the door. They'd hop the steps, but you had to do the actions as well without falling over.

Mmm. There are lots of versions of that one, too. That one's probably the scariest of the lot.

[She jumps the steps through, though she doesn't singsong a rhyme while doing it.] I like the magpie songs the best.

You should sing something.

[Not a request or a question, carefully so to let her pick whatever she wants.]

As you wish. [Though there's a grin on her face as she hops back the other way, just because. She won't sing until she tosses the stone again. Or rather, recite; this version is pretty old.]

[She wedges her toe under the stone and then kicks it up, catching it deftly in her fingers, before sitting down in the middle of her hopscotch grid.]
