[By and large, Katie hates this moon.   It made her sick when she first got here and she's largely shunned it ever since.  Today marks the first day she's voluntarily gone out in it.  Why? 

Because she has a lightsaber.  And she wants to practice with it and swing it around and generally have fun with it and maybe cut down a few sickly dead branches.  And while she could do this in the cargo bay of the Vanquish easy enough, out here she has to wear a mask.

A mask and a lightsaber is just too much to pass up, oh my god.  She's found a black one, which in fact looks nothing like anything you might find in Star Wars, which is probably for the best all round, really.  But it's black, and it's the best she can do, and if you head into the gloom of the smog this fine day you might find a small child waving a pale white lightsaber around that makes all the appropriate lightsaber sounds and doing her best to make breathing sounds like Darth Vader because black mask, and to be honest if she's not quoting some part of some lightsaber battle when you wander past it'll be kind of surprising.

...unless you are of course recognisable as a Jedi and thus she'll choke on her breath pretty quickly and turn the saber off and look as innocent as she possibly can.

On the bright side, it's clear to anyone with any powers of observation she actually knows how to use a sword and is taking care not to cause any accidental damage with it.  So... bonus?  It's just a small child having fun.  Vmm vmm.]

I mean, sword fighting can be pretty angry. But I think any kind of fighting they think is all angry here. They have weird laws.

[ Isaac should really temper his words to suit the girl, but he doesn't have much of a filter. ]

That and you're sword fighting by yourself. Means you're sad or angry. I guess. [ Isaac shrugs, and maybe it's sarcastic, maybe not, but he grins and shrugs his shoulders. ]

Oh! I'm just-- I found my sword! I missed it, I was just playing. Do you have movies where you come from?

[Wait a sec--]

So that thing's real?

[ Well, it looks real enough, but Isaac doesn't believe anything in space. He keeps a health distance, just in case. ]

Yeah, we have movies. It'd be pretty dumb without them. [ A shrug. ] But this place has those games in the streets -- can't actually hurt people or even act like you are, might cause a fight. Dunno if it's a law, but they don't seem to like it.

[flickerflash]

No. It's very fake. Couldn't hurt a single fly. [Though there's a pile of seared, singed dead branches nearby that might tell a different story.

...but oh now she's curious. Games in the streets? She hadn't paid any attention to this place but that sounds kind of fun.] What sort of games do they play? Can kids join in?

Yeah, so you're a bad liar.

[ He's not stupid -- he can see the seared branches and still smell the burning wood, even through the mask. Isaac isn't gonna fall for that. He's not always the smartest, but c'mon. ]

I don't think it's a good idea. Some of them get pretty weird -- can't actually hurt people or it gets you in trouble or something. Dunno. Even I don't understand it.

[A terrible liar for the most part. Quite deliberately. She grins under her mask. But the moment he says I don't think it's a good idea she's sold.]

I could play even if I don't take a sword, though! I bet I could get out of any trouble.

Right, I don't think anyone would challenge you. But sure, go ahead, get yourself killed. Sounds like a great idea.

[ So he's exaggerating, mostly. ] You really should just stay put, though.

[flickerflash]

[You really know the way to a little girl's heart, Isaac.

And by that I mean she makes a distinct huffy sound behind her mask.]

Should and would are two different things. I pity anyone who tries to kill me.

[Scuse her, she's just gonna sail past you with her nose in the air and start stomping towards town. It's a... well, she's kind of a contrary idiot. (But she's also not wrong.)]

Yeah and both mean you don't need to be -- oh come on.

[ Isaac doesn't want to be responsible for a little girl running out into the city's games, so she might find that he's moved strangely fast to stand in front of her, blocking her way. Werewolf abilities come in handy. ]

No one will try to kill you, but the games are pretty dumb anyway. I tried them, and I like fighting. Pretty boring. So, uh, yeah, you should probably just play with your sword or whatever. Fake sword.

[flickerflash]

[...not to worry. Boring is a good way of deterring her, bu tspeed like that is a very distracting thing for curious children. She tips the mask back finally to peer at him with green eyes.]

You're terribly slow. You're not a superhero, are you?

[frigidaire]

[ Isaac considers lying, considers the coolness of being a superhero, but he finally shrugs. ] I'm a werewolf.

[ It's no secret by this point -- there are plenty others aboard, after all. ] I'm not slow, either. I'm pretty fast. Probably faster than you. [ This is an adult, maybe sort of challenging a kid to the race. Isaac Lahey has class. ]

[She grins outright. He'll get the way she talks soon enough, probably. But oh, a werewolf! She hasn't met a werewolf in years!]

I've never met a werewolf before! Do you change every full moon? What tribe are you from? Are American werewolves different from British ones?

[frigidaire]

Uh, sort of transform. I've got control over it so, it's not anything exciting.

[ Well, being on a moon definitely doesn't help with the control. She doesn't need to know that, though. Instead, he gives her a funny, scrunched-up face sort of look. ]

Uh. I mean we don't have tribes, and I'm pretty sure if there are british werewolves they just growl with an accent or something. I knew one that might be British, but he was just a tool. And blind. So.

[Katie huffs. She'll be the judge of exciting around here kthx.]

So you've never heard the name Fianna before? Maybe the tribes don't like you because you're no fun.

[Or he could just be from a different place. But Katie is a brat.]

Uh, yeah no. I mean, is she here or something? And is she hot?

[ God, Isaac really should be apologizing for himself and for his lack of filter even around kids. I'm so sorry. ]

Where I'm from we don't need tribes, we have too many weird packs anyway. Don't need more crazy to add to it.

[Katie giggles outright at the questions. Definitely not from her world.]

Fianna's another werewolf I know. She's very hot-tempered! And lots of red curly hair. But I don't think she's here anymore. It's a pity. You'd have got on well.

What makes you say that?

[ This kid doesn't even know him, and he definitely doesn't know her. So forgive his suspicion. ]

She's not as much work as you, is she?

You've both got curly hair! Curly-haired people get on well all the time. Just ask Sam.

[If she's weird well...that's just Katie.]

Yeah, sure.

[ He's almost 100% positive that is not how this works. ] Who is Sam, anyway?

Pretty sure I'm a good one. I know some bad ones, though.

[ He squints back at her. ] Why's it matter?

Well, if you're a bad one it wouldn't be very smart for me to keep talking to you. I am wearing a lot of red.

Uh, do bad werewolves like red or something? Pretty sure I don't really care either way about the color red.
