[By and large, Katie hates this moon. It made her sick when she first got here and she's largely shunned it ever since. Today marks the first day she's voluntarily gone out in it. Why?

Because she has a lightsaber. And she wants to practice with it and swing it around and generally have fun with it and maybe cut down a few sickly dead branches. And while she could do this in the cargo bay of the Vanquish easy enough, out here she has to wear a mask.

A mask and a lightsaber is just too much to pass up, oh my god. She's found a black one, which in fact looks nothing like anything you might find in Star Wars, which is probably for the best all round, really. But it's black, and it's the best she can do, and if you head into the gloom of the smog this fine day you might find a small child waving a pale white lightsaber around that makes all the appropriate lightsaber sounds and doing her best to make breathing sounds like Darth Vader because black mask, and to be honest if she's not quoting some part of some lightsaber battle when you wander past it'll be kind of surprising.

...unless you are of course recognisable as a Jedi and thus she'll choke on her breath pretty quickly and turn the saber off and look as innocent as she possibly can.

On the bright side, it's clear to anyone with any powers of observation she actually knows how to use a sword and is taking care not to cause any accidental damage with it. So... bonus? It's just a small child having fun. Vmm vmm.]

[She doesn't recognise him, really, until he speaks. And then of course the fact he has a Kirito saber on his own tells her exactly who he is. Katie stiffens a little in surprise, but then she lifts her mask briefly to give him a hopeful smile.]

And they're not red! I rather like mine.

[ He chuckled through his own black mask. It sounded like short raspy breathing for a moment until his usual laugh filtered through. ]

Kirito worked hard on these. I don't think he's really focused on color right now.

[.....She stares at him wide-eyed for a moment. That's kind of creepy. But at least there's a laugh following, and she drops her mask back down with a faintly relieved look.]

I suppose it's very hard to add colour to a laser. [She has no clue when it comes to anything scientific.] But white seems nice. It's very pure. And you can use it as a torch if you get lost.

[Hee.]

[ Another chuckle. ] I don't think red matches you anyway. But a blue lightsaber would fit you.

Did any of the other Jedi here tell you what each color means?

[She's about to complain that red would totally match her dress, but that's an interesting question that catches her attention.]

Only that red doesn't suit me. What do the colours mean?

[ He was sure she wanted a red lightsaber before; he squints but brushes it off ]

A blue lightsaber is built with a sapphire Ilum crystal. It's to symbolize a Jedi's role as a Guardian - we are warriors and combatants and first in the front lines. What do you think, sound like you?

[Ohhh. Her face lights up.]

I think it does! What does green stand for?

[She's already decided red obviously stands for not great things.]

Green? [ He smirks a little. ] Green lightsabers are wielded by Jedi Consulars. They're the ones who are especially strong in the Force, and find wisdom in it.

Ohhh... [Well, Luke having one makes sense, then.]

What colour is the one you normally have? [She knows it's red later, but surely he didn't start out with that colour.]

You couldn't guess?

[ He crouches down beside her and rest his hands on his knee ]

C'mon, why don't you give it a shot. Let's see if the Force is strong in you.

[She grins, a little shyly, but. Hmm.]

Blue?

Because you're a fighter, like me.

[Only better. And older.]

[ His mask echoes a weird wheezy laugh ]

That's a good guess! Maybe we can get Kirito to get us blue savers, what do you think?

[Your laughs are both creepy and cool. She's not decided on which.]

We might have blue lasers somewhere! If we keep an eye out, I bet he can change them really easily!

I bet if you just change the energy out put... [ A huff ] Well, maybe not. Not having an engineering chip makes building lightsabers -- even fake ones -- a lot a harder. It's just different here.

[She glances down to hers.] How close are they to the real thing?

Lightsabers are built with kyber crystals and a lot of other parts to focus the power, make it more stable and consistent. It's a weapon in-tune with the Force. My Master told me the weapon is my life. That's how important it is to a Jedi.

[ He flips the Kirito saber in his hand. ]

This isn't even close.

[She looks disappointed at the end judgment, though you can bet she listened raptly through the lesson.]

I suppose these just look fancy and make fun noises.
