Max is too gruff, and though she'd trust him with her life, she knows he still has bouts where he's not always all there. Foster is too irresponsible. Feilx she still doesn't trust, and Wanda and Lauralae seem unused to command. Ramse might be able to do it. And so might Alistair. But at the end of the day, she doesn't know either of them well enough to be able to say with certainty. She does, however, know herself. She's held command before, and she's done well at it. She just isn't quite so used to adults that aren't Anakin, Obi-Wan and Plo Koon having so much faith in her.
Eventually, she breathes in deeply and looks back at Peggy again. With renewed confidence in her eyes, she gives her assessment with the trained neutrality of a soldier giving report:]
... No. You're right. I'm a good choice. I have experience having to take command when needed, and I'm intimately familiar with spaceships and space travel. Though-- hopefully, none of it will ever be necessary.
I'm only worried that my age might be a factor in the rest of the crew taking me seriously. [It had rarely been a problem back home, but back home she'd been recognisable as a Jedi. Here, everyone treats her as the kid she is.] Especially if there's ever an emergency.

[ of course, she's acutely aware that she may be setting the young woman on a difficult path. but wasn't her own path uphill? peggy taps an idle thumb against her knee. ]
I won't tell you to send them my direction if they take umbrage with you, Ahsoka. Mostly because I rather doubt you need someone else to be your keeper or your shield. [ her small smile persists. ] But let it be understood that I have a very low tolerance for for those who might begrudge you your opportunity to prove yourself.

It probably won't happen. Things have been pretty uneventful so far, right? I'm just used to preparing for the worst.
[Ahsoka isn't a pessimist-- far from it. But she's been in a war. She knows that anything that can go wrong, often will.]

Ah... just so we're on the same page, is there anything in particular you'd like me to take care of or back you up on?

On paper? But-- nobody's used paper for centuries! ... Millenia, even!
no subject
It may be old-fashioned, but it's secure.

Can't I just write it in code?
no subject
[ not that she doesn't appreciate the suggestion. peggy nearly tells ahsoka that she'd let it slide so long as it's a code she can't herself break -- but despite peggy's history at bletchley park and breaking axis codes, she has to accept that there might be forces within the atroma with more deciphering skills than she herself possesses. ]

[She sighs, resigned.] But-- fine. I'll write it out.

These augments seem to be plugged directly into our brains. Who knows what the Atroma can do to us via that conduit -- if they've managed to give us knowledge we shouldn't otherwise have, what stops them from deleting things we know? Imagine a scenario where the Atroma wanted to simply erase one of our crewmembers from our very memories -- our very thoughts -- our only clue remaining to us might be those paper records that are, admittedly, quite dull to keep atop of.
I sound paranoid. I know. But I suppose it ought to be the captain's job to be paranoid for everyone else, so they needn't be.
no subject
... No, you're right.
It wouldn't even be the first time they've messed with us. Brain-wise.
no subject
Have they gone further in the past?
no subject
There was something... wrong with the ship. [She doesn't know how else to put it.] But every time I went to investigate, it was like my attention was directed elsewhere. Every time I noticed something, I couldn't remember what it was later.

The brain -- human or otherwise -- is a delicate part.

Well, yes. But before the Atroma's augment, I'm happy to say I dodged that particular bullet and never came under anyone's sway myself. But I've gone up against forces who are not above using hypnosis and brainwashing as tools of conquest. [ ... ] Like the man who wreaked havoc on the Winter Soldier's mind; however, you'll forgive me if I don't delve into the private details.

Or a Force healer. Either way, both of those things are outside my realm of expertise. I know enough about engineering to fix a broken ship or prosthetic, but... honestly, that's about it.

He was pretty clever though, huh? Even if he was kinda full of himself.
