[ she echoes, a little incredulous. it isn't the question she'd been expecting. but peggy pushes aside her busy-work and rises to her feet. she tucks her chair beneath the desk. ] Much like it felt before, if I'm honest. Although I'm willing to play-act drunk with power, if you'd like.

[ CASE IN POINT: ] A cuppa wouldn't go amiss, that's for certain.

[ He smiles, pushing off the doorframe and turning towards the kitchen. ]

Tea it is. I'm glad to have something to do. You've given my life purpose again, Cap.

[ cap. god above, she could almost laugh. the abbreviation conjures all sorts of discomfort and a rush of warmth to her cheeks. but she handles it well, and clears her throat. ]

Just -- for God's sake -- don't let me get too comfortable. Even the brassiest top brass ought to make their own damned tea now and again. [ she teases, and she smiles, because she doesn't quite know how else to field such easy kindness. ]

[ He vanishes down the hall, and true to his word comes back after not too long, holding two mugs -- he passes her one and it's clear he remembers how she takes her tea from the last time. ]

[ peggy stiffens -- suddenly curious: ] Yes, I've -- experienced that myself, once. Not nearly close to thirty years, though.

[ He knows one other person who has as well, which doesn't make it a common issue, but. ]

It's cool, I don't age normally anymore... looking pretty good for my sixties, huh?

Exceptionally good. [ she watches his face, careful. ] Do you know why?

Yeah, it has to do with an injection I took to be able to time travel, but I can't explain the science behind why it works. Above my pay grade.

...Time travel. [ that's a whole new curveball, darling. ]

....yeah. It's a thing where I'm from.

On top of the virus.

It kind of exists because of the virus, actually. Project Splinter wants to travel back in time to prevent the plague from happening.

...And your thirty years. Was that involving time travel, or -- have you actually lived them? [ now that she's warming up the conversation, she shows a particular level of...familiarity with the possibility. perhaps not time travel itself, but something similar. ]

Both. I went back in time and lived through the years. From 1987 to 2015.

It can't have been easy -- to be a man out of time.

No, it wasn't easy. It sucked, actually, even if the world was better then than it was in my time. I just wasn't exactly free to enjoy that part.

That's one way to put it. I made a deal and I had to keep up my end.
