[ The video starts with Charles sitting on his wheelchair, his hands neatly folded on his lap. He rubs faint circles on his legs for a few seconds, the only real sign of tension. ]

Hello. My names is Charles Xavier. I am a geneticist graduated from Oxford. I -- [ ran ] -- run a school in Westchester for the Gifted. Mutants. People with abilities. My focus is the training and control of abilities we do not always fully understand, abilities that are gifts but can often run amok.

[ He pauses, catching his second wind before continuing on, poised. ]

I am also a telepath with a full set of abilities in aiding the mind and extremely . . . proficient. I do not read minds without permission, because honestly, I really don't care.

[ Charles pauses again, wondering if he should say more and dismisses it. People can ask him if they need details - which they will. ]

If anyone would like to make use of my abilities and skills, they are certainly most welcome to. Confidentiality, of course, is key and you need not make anything public if you do not wish to. If you have any questions for me, the floor is open for you.

[Vash stomach goes cold deep in the pit. He wasn't sure who he was expecting, but it wasn't the preacher.]

He-- he never mentioned to me that-- ah, he got off the planet before.

He wouldn't have. We were different. We had lost our memories long ago.

You lost your memories? That must have been really hard, for both of you.

[Should he tell Charles what happened? It wouldn't change anything.]

It was hard for everyone.

[ He pauses. ] You were very important to him.

Really? Heh, here I thought I did nothing but annoy him. [He kids. Mostly.] He was a really good man.

Well. And that.

[ Charles' feelings on his team are mixed. He cared for them. Took care of them. He made sure they survived.

But they didn't love him. They were afraid of him. While most other teams had strong bonds of family and trust, Charles had no one. ]

[Vash can't help himself. He leans his head back and laughs.] Yeah. That's more what I thought.

[At least with Vash he won't fear Charles unless he ever shows himself to be a bad person.]

Do you know how he got off the planet by chance? Or was it like this place? Waking up somewhere new?

[For once he's not just changing the direction of the talk just to get it off himself. He'd love to find a way to get the people back home help.]

[ He nods. ]

That's how we arrive. We're told that we've lost our memories and we need to win them back.

Win them back? That sounds ominous.

Games. Competitions. Some were harmless . . . others, less so.

[ So like the Hunger Games, but no one stayed dead. ]

And I thought this place was bad. At least we have our memories.

[ He nods. ]

The other places can be a little more . . . intense.

How many places have you been now?

This would be my third one?

Including your original home?

Oh, no. That would make this my fourth.

I'm very popular.

And I've never been so glad to not be popular. This is only my first trip in some crazy... television show... thing.

The television part is strange, even for me.

Oh, so the game for memories you were on wasn't for a show?

No. As far as I know, nothing was televised. We had some privacy, at least.

Well, there's something I guess. Still glad I missed out on it.

[ His lips twitch. ]

I wish I had too.

Well, at least you're not there anymore. This place isn't all bad. You get to travel to some really cool planets you may not have normally gotten to visit before!
