Naturally. I had to understand what all these odd ... personal hygiene notices were about.

[He tapped his chin, where his beard was neatly trimmed.] It took some practice, I must say.

I don't understand it. They tried to teach me how to put thread between my teeth.

That's so you can get all the food out from between them. Apparently that food ... does nasty things to one's mouth if not cleaned out. It clears up a lot of questions on why people's teeth rot out where we come from, I must say.

Food makes teeth rot? [He's bluntly horrified.] Do the maesters know this?

I have the distinct feeling that they do not. [Considering how many maesters no longer had teeth.]

There's a lot the maesters don't know. Maybe we can teach them, when we all go back.
