Captain's Log 03 - Landing Party

Tests have been run, data has been gathered, packaged, looked over, highlighted with all sorts of colored sharpies. There is only so much the data can prove. What's needed now is an actual investigation, getting the final clue to a puzzle that, Kirk thought, they were running very short of time on.

Which was how he ended up down on the surface of the toxic moon, in front of the nearest terraformer.

Time to go find some answers.

<sub>[ ooc: Since I didn't want to flood the comm, it can be assumed that Kirk announced he would be going to explore the terraformers and asked if anyone wanted to come and form an expedition party. So, if you want to come, feel free to jump in.

[Clay's a bit behind him, a frown on his face and his hand covering his chin as he looks around his arm (because Vash be tall and Clay be small). This guy seems to be pretty good at navigating the core; Clay somehow knows some things related to the terraformer, but not to this level.

The muttering catches his attention though, as well as the way Vash relaxes after some scanning. He lowers his hand a bit before he asks:]

Ah. [Vash hesitates a moment and moves his hands away from the controls.] On my planet we have terraformers that are a little like these. [Or a lot.] We have a term called a 'Last Run'. Basically it's when one gets to be beyond saving and can't be fixed. [When the Plant inside is dying.]

I was wondering if this had any of the signs of something like that happening before. If it did I'm not sure what more can be done to fix it.

[Vash smiles kindly. Perfectly hiding the bad taste a last run leaves in his mouth.] Luckily I don't see any records of signs of that sort of event with this equipment. It's not exactly the same as home, but that gives me a lot of hope this can be fixed.

Ah...

[He winces a little bit at that explanation.] Well, at least we know that this moon can still be saved. With the way it looks outside...

[Yeah, he'll just trail off on that. The pollution problem back at home has been hard to fix, and it's not nearly as bad as this moon.]

So these terraformers are a lot like the ones you have? Was there ever a case of one of them malfunctioning like this one?

Spewing out poison? No. Then again, I'm thinking that may be coming from the planet itself if I'm reading this correctly. If we can get at least this one back online it should be able to help start transforming the air into clean air again.

Malfunctions do in general happen more often than they should to ours. Nothing that has been planet ending or changing the entire atmosphere; it generally means the Plant-- er, terraformer stops working. [Unless Vash counts the times he has lost control of his powers and did massive damage, but he's not.]

Although, it's usually related to the [Plant] power source not being handled correctly by the people trying to maintain them. [He almost stops there, but then quickly adds.] They mean Well, they just make mistakes.

And the power source here is the main difference between the ones we have and this one.
