Captain's Log 03 - Landing Party

Who: Jim Kirk & Anyone Who Wants to Come On an Expedition
Broadcast:No
Action: Yes - On the moon, in the Terraformers
When: Sometime this week

Tests have been run, data has been gathered, packaged, looked over, highlighted with all sorts of colored sharpies. There is only so much the data can prove. What's needed now is an actual investigation, getting the final clue to a puzzle that, Kirk thought, they were running very short of time on.

Which was how he ended up down on the surface of the toxic moon, in front of the nearest terraformer.

Time to go find some answers.

[ ooc: Since I didn't want to flood the comm, it can be assumed that Kirk announced he would be going to explore the terraformers and asked if anyone wanted to come and form an expedition party. So, if you want to come, feel free to jump in.

Also feel free to start your own side threads. I will put up some sections, but feel free to start your own as the group explores. The ultimate goal is just to gather information (but this is a Jim Kirk Expedition (TM), so something may very well go wrong!), so have fun!)

If you need help starting things or want a refresher, here is the original mod post. ]

I wouldn't say everyone, but it could be a mutant trait. [or it could be because they just don't get compliments all that often] No, you don't seem the type.

Well, you are just all going to have to learn to take them. We shall put it back into your make-up, so to speak. [Tyrion smirked then.] You know me so well already. We shall be great friends.

[personal profile] beathach 2016-06-02 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Good luck with that. Stubborn is another trait we all share. [that was definitely a mutant trait, he was certain of it, even without the science to back it up] I think we will be, too.

I really think if you can control your appearances and how you move through doorways - you can control whether or not you are stubborn. [Tyrion states dryly.] The first round of wine is on me, regardless.

[personal profile] beathach 2016-06-03 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
I can't speak for the others, but I'm not the worst, at least. [he sounds a bit too amused. He had to wonder just how familiar Tyrion was with mutants, or how much Kitty had told him] As long as you let me pay for the second round, if there is one.
tallasaking: (Laughing)

[personal profile] tallasaking 2016-06-03 12:59 pm (UTC)(link)
[He knows everything that Kitty has told him ... and anything he's been able to get his hands on.] Gracious, two rounds should be more than enough.

I doubt it'll get that far, but - [a shrug] Either that or the next time, it's my treat.
tallasaking: (Oh Really?)

[personal profile] tallasaking 2016-06-04 01:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I thank you for your future generosity - and shall be sure to order a very good glass of wine then. [He smirked faintly, as he continued to look up at the framing around them.] Does any of this seem ... familiar to you?
beathach: (149)

[personal profile] beathach 2016-06-04 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
By all means. [Hank looks up as well and lets out a sigh, a mix of exasperated and annoyed] Not one bit. Terraforming is just a concept in my time, and not even a popular one. It's just a bunch of scientists throwing theories at the wall to see if one sticks, but as far as I know nothing's stuck just yet. They keep disproving what they come up with.

[a little wryly] I believe the saying is "this is above my pay grade".
tallasaking: (Books are my love)

[personal profile] tallasaking 2016-06-05 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
[He sighed heavily, as he too looked around.] It looms familiar - but only to the augmented part of my mind. To the rest of it -- it looks like a complete shambles of a castle. Odd that.
beathach: (162)

[personal profile] beathach 2016-06-05 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
It does resemble a castle in some ways. [it's an apt enough description. He can't help but reach up to touch the ceiling - it's been getting a bit more narrower as they walked, and he feels as though he'll soon have to hunch over to keep up. Curse being tall] Functionality rather than practicality. I guess they didn't account for overly tall individuals wandering around in here.

I was with Allen earlier ... the corridors keep getting smaller and smaller, until even I cannot fit. I thought that passingly odd - as if this place exists in it's own space.

It's incredibly odd. How did they expect to do maintenance if the terraformers did work like they were supposed to? Unless it's able to be accessed remotely, or they have special - I don't know, robots who can come in and do it for them.
tallasaking: (Default)

[personal profile] tallasaking 2016-06-05 02:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I have not seen robots -- but I have been having my suspicions about whether or not this can be fixed remotely. [He murmured, looking around.]
beathach: (95)

[personal profile] beathach 2016-06-06 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
What are your suspicions?
tallasaking: (Default)

[personal profile] tallasaking 2016-06-07 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
I suspect that the Atroma had something to do with the failure of this machine. I think it is altogether too convenient that I seem to remember something like this - and have never seen such a creature in my life.
beathach: (87)

[personal profile] beathach 2016-06-07 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
. . . that's a hell of a suspicion. [and, honestly, he wouldn't be surprised if it was even close to truth] Did the Atroma exist when this moon was inhabited?
tallasaking: (Oh Really?)

[personal profile] tallasaking 2016-06-07 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I tend to go for the most paranoid answer first. [It has kept him alive.] I am not sure - because we are not allowed information about Atroma, if you recall.
beathach: (33)

[personal profile] beathach 2016-06-07 04:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I recall, it doesn't mean I can't hope some hasn't slipped through anyway. [oh, how he was used to the "people in charge" having information that was unattainable. He just sighs] But honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if you were right. [a bit dryly] My paranoia agrees with yours.
tallasaking: (Sly)

[personal profile] tallasaking 2016-06-08 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
We are going to hope so, if nothing else ...we can at least take advantage of fragments. [Not that he would say that outloud, because if he did, things would go quite badly.]]
beathach: (102)

[personal profile] beathach 2016-06-08 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
[he can't help but huff out a vaguely annoyed noise]

Mm, we can at least do that. I'm not supposed to be comparing all of this to the other world, and yet it keeps reminding me.
tallasaking: (Oh Really?)

[personal profile] tallasaking 2016-06-09 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
Isn't that odd? How our experiences make us the most likely to be able to handle such a place, such a journey? [One corner of his mouth quirked, before he looked back up at the structure.] But this will not help those poor people - so ... let us focus.
beathach: (02)

[personal profile] beathach 2016-06-09 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
Unfortunately, it's more normal now than being odd. But you're right. [he sighs out and looks around them, making a face as this particular tunnel seems to be getting smaller. He's never been one to be uncomfortable in small spaces, but this was starting to bother him a little bit] I don't think we'll be able to do much until we get to the center, at least.
tallasaking: (Oh Really?)

[personal profile] tallasaking 2016-06-09 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
We should probably go in the opposite direction, then. It gets broader the closer we move to the center, after all.

We might as well. Shall we, then?
