Don't be. What should I be expecting?

Your Vision gave me the main rundown. Clint -- my Clint -- isn't married. [ not anymore. ] Doesn't have kids. He's deaf. And he's been an Avenger for a few decades now. Maybe more. He's not always precise in his story-telling.

He has no family?

[ that does sting. Seeing Clint's family gave steve a distant sort of comfort, that one of them has something to go back home to, Clint earned it through and through. ]

Do you know when he lost his hearing?

He has family. Just not a wife and kids. [ there's almost a pout spinning across the surface of those words -- typed or otherwise. clint has a brother, who is more like an on-again-off-again nemesis. until recently, at least.

and clint has kate. but she's not comfortable expressing that much. not yet.

she doesn't answer the second question -- she hasn't decided whether she wants to, yet.]

I'm glad he has you.

[ he almost senses the pout even if he can't see that and her words are enough to clue him in. friends can be family, sam is, isn't he? and natasha, in her own way. and bucky, bucky will never be anything less than a brother. ]

I'm sure he's glad, too. Don't know what he'd do without me. Probably start to nest, here. Get caught up in decorating his dinky little dorm room.

[ she can't see but he's smiling, though the words are indication enough. ]

Someone has to. No offense, Cap, but the old guard is getting -- well -- old.

Eighteen, at the time.

[ which might just almost hint at why her world's cap was trying so hard to shut the team down -- 'cause at the time kate was also the oldest member. ]

[ younger boys were playing at war back at his day, he won't fault her. he's worried, however, about the sort of times the world is going through where young people like her feel the need her had felt, to protect. ]

Can I ask what drew you into it?

[ -- the question that everyone always asks. and the one she hates answering. the hardest truth is one known only to her therapist and to jessica jones, and she won't breathe a word of it here. second, she supposes she could describe the day the avengers saved an eleven-year-old her from some d-lister villains. but -- nah.

captain america doesn't need to know the architecture. he doesn't need to hear, either, about the day years later when her sister's wedding was attacked and a trio of misfit wanna-be heroes botched the rescue so badly that she had to do their work for them.

so, with a great deal of thought: ] I believe that when a hero in a costume stands up for something...maybe that inspires an old lady to make a phone call about whatever injustice she might see outside her window. We all have our bugbears and enemies, but it's not about saving the world in grand gestures. It's about inspiring people to save themselves.

to dare to think they can.

[ she makes him smile in her own way. the world isn't in bad hands. ]

Look, we learned from the best. Me and my team? We grew up watching the Avengers do their thing. Sure, you guys weren't always the most graceful solution but...
