001 - Video

Who: Ben Grimm
Broadcast: Video Broadcast
Action: Bishop
When: June 4th

Awright, lets get this over with quick.

[ Ben's been loitering for a few days in the Marisva, getting his bearings, read'n up on what he could about this place, but some stuff you only get through good old fashioned talking face to face. Or face to camera. A huge, craggy, orange face fills the screen, all worn and weathered and animate like stone probably shouldn't be. There's a slow blink and a low sigh, the Thing rolling out his shoulders and settling in for a fun series of conversations. ]

Ben Grimm here of The Fantastic Four and Avengers ask'n for a headcount. Who all's here, who ain't, and which version of earth are ya from?

[ It ain't his first rodeo, it ain't even his tenth- it is his second in one of these weird 'crammed in a jaw and hope noth'n blows up' sortsa places though. Seems a bit nicer than Luceti. For one thing: Space! For another: he gets to pilot. ]

And can we skip the 'oh gosh gee you're all big and orange and rocky!' like I don't know. You're in space, you've gotta have seen stranger things than me by now.

So, time travel. I'm familiar with it, though I haven't done it myself.

Erik Lehnsherr.

[The impulse to just hang up is so strong. Instead, he narrows his eyes. Comments on his age aren't unusual, but no one's gone that far.]

I beg your pardon.
grandstanding: (So choose it)

Yes, and I have been told as much already. Without being called a baby in the process, I'd like to point out.
grandstanding: (Yes everyone here seems competent)

[Another point of division: his hair. He must go grey within two decades, from what he's been told.]

Yes, he is. [Hank just doesn't go out in the sun much.]
grandstanding: (Sounds like a volvo with a gunrack)

Do you honestly think I have nothing better to do than lie about Hank McCoy's age?
grandstanding: (But be careful what you wish for.)

Regardless.

[Back to the matter at hand.]

I take it you're from another version of our reality, but further into the future.

[He takes that in silence. He's already heard of the fate of one world he was part of. If Ben were part of that future, with Apocalypse, he would have said so by now. As for "catching a break"... that's a road he doesn't want to go down.]

We have already established that our version of the world is different from most others here, including those with mutants.

You'll have to keep looking, if that kind of world even exists.

[He doesn't touch the rest of it. Doesn't want to. Even the idea that one version of him will be lucky only implies that the rest of them... are not.]
grandstanding: (You won't stand in my way)

[If it's been a while for Ben, it's been even longer for Erik. As Ben says the words, a stillness comes over him. It's hard to remember the last time he'd even heard them. Decades ago.

After a prolonged silence, he just nods, looking away from the screen.]
grandstanding: (How terribly gauche)

[That's firmer ground. Good.]

Most have never heard of us, and most I've spoken to don't care. Or, they fail to understand why the difference is important. There are plenty of other races represented here, though humans are the majority. We're currently docked on a moon whose race is human in appearance, but there are other species around. No one has batted an eyelid so far.

[And if he doesn't sound particularly impressed or derisive about it, it's because of experience. He's done this dance before. Kyriakos and the library were similar enough, in that no one there either understood or cared that mutants were different. This third trip hasn't rocked the boat much, except that the mutant population is much larger.]

Well, I can make no guarantees there.
