Who: Zhas
Broadcast: Video
Action: N/A
When: Nebulous now-time
-----
[for once, Zhas is not wearing a full face of skull makeup.
so for all intents and purposes, this looks like a video feed of a pretty normal guy propping up his communicator on something so that he doesn't have to hold it. as he steps back, his eyes go a little glowy in the dim light of the Red Fish's cargo bay--but that's not the focus, here.
his expression stays blank, but he brings his hands up to sign, in very clear ASL:] 'Who understands sign language?'

video
[Someone's managed to find a way to miss out on the dessert cream. Or maybe Atroma's just noticed that she gives it away every single time. Asuka stares at him impatiently, waiting for his explanation, one hand irritably on her hip.]
video
or, at least, he knows of her. how many younger, one-eyed girls could claim to be on the clue of the Red Fish, right? if this is Coil's weird little friend...
Asuka gets no actual response. rather, Zhas stops whatever he was doing to pick up his communication device and try to get a better look at whatever is behind her in the video. because if she's in a recognizable room...]
video
Hey. What are you looking for, idiot?
video
[parroted back without a second thought. he looks upwards, part of his face going out of frame--he could stomp around the hall or something, but would it really be worth it?]
What room are you in. [at the last second he remembers that he should probably specify...] I'm Coil's friend.
video
Coil's friend? [She sounds more suspicious than incredulous, even as she turns away from the screen to open her door, still within hearing range of the communicator. He wouldn't let anyone onboard that would compromise the ship. ... Probably.] That doesn't tell me anything.
video
[or don't check the roster, because he is now moving through the cargo bay and heading for the main hallway, so there's a very real chance that the two of them aren't going to need video pretty soon.]
action
[Craning her neck like that makes her look like an unimpressed groundhog. She looks thoroughly unintimidating in a blue sundress and pigtails, the eyepatch and her expression a terrible contrast. She squints, then calls out--]
Fine! I'm over here.
action
he also looks like he's maybe never had fun a day in his life. as he gets closer (and he's the type to walk right up to her), she might be able to make out the black smudges around his eyes from paint that hasn't been scrubbed all the way off.
he looks. down at her.]
You're small.
action
[Asuka's gone from unimpressed to irritated in the exchange of two words. Granted, it's not exactly a difficult feat. He seems just as eager to invade personal space as she tends to be, which is just another point already in his disfavor. She stares right back up at him, mouth set in a hard little line.]
What's that about being Coil's friend?
action
Partner.
[that's all he says--almost correcting, even though he'd been the one to call himself Coil's friend just a moment ago. funny, Coil failed to mention a couple of things...]
action
[Asuka's one visible eye narrows. It's easy enough to catch where his gaze is going when it's what most people do the first time they see her. But he's so blatant about it. She almost wonders if he'll haul off and ask about it with as much bare obliviousness as a four-year-old, so she tries not to give him an opening-- and stares at-- what is that, remnants of paint? yeah-- under his eyes. Not exactly flattering.]
[He'd asked about sign language over the network. That doesn't mean he is who he says he is, but if Coil hasn't been disturbed by his arrival, then...] You're too old for him.
action
he laughs.
it's not a good sound--a gravelly, disgusted thing from the throat of someone who never talks--and the noise seems to take him by surprise by the way he brings his hand up to his face to half-cover his mouth.]
We kill things together. [--is the way he tries to specify, fighting off a lingering smirk.]
action
That's descriptive. [Maybe piloting Eva could be described the same way, but she hadn't ever considered it like that. She stopped being naive enough to think that she was really saving the world a long time ago, but neither was she doing something underhanded and shadowy. Eva piloting had full governmental support once upon a time. She crosses her arms.] Do you say more than two words at a time, or what?
action
he thinks he's been talking far more than usual. she should be honored, honestly--though he's already getting the feeling she may be less than impressed with him for the rest of her natural life.
funny, funny. Coil didn't say much about her, aside from her being loud and mean; had he been hoping the two of them would somehow never interact on their tiny, confined ship?]
action
What's your assignment?
action
[he thought he knew. he had an answer on the tip of his tongue, but it's wrong now--and he has to look back over in the direction of the bridge to get it right.]
... Pilot.
[because Atroma likes ruining everyone's lives.]
