[ kate's surroundings are, quite evidently, a lush little corner of málum. the neon-y blue tinge of the bar's decor casts its colour over her features. there's a tall, impressively concocted cocktail at her elbow. ] I mean, I know I do. So here's how it goes: you tell me anywhere you'd rather be but here, with the caveat that it can't just be a home. I think it's safe to say that home is a very understandable answer, but it's also a little too achingly realistic for my purposes. So pick somewhere else. Pick Ibiza. Pick Iceland, if you want.

Well, unless Iceland is your home. Then please refer to rule numero uno. It also happens to be the game's only rule. [ short and sweet, that's our katerade.

Nice. I gotta admit, aside from that museum on the moon -- it's been a long time since I've walked through a garden of any kind.

I have never been there myself, but I have always wanted to go. [He's downright wistful again.]

Is it far?

From me, a few hundred miles?

And no planes, trains, or automobiles. I'm guessing.

Horses alone. Or walking. I've done both and and I prefer horses.

Man, it's been years since I road a horse. Not since we sold our stables upstate.

It has been months since I have done the same. [Now he sounds wistful as well.] I do not know where we would fit a horse on these ships ... but if we could?

You'd have to convince someone to shovel the poop.

[ no delicacy, this one. ]

I could build a robot to do that ... [He might actually be able to do that, come to think of it.] And I would shovel it myself, but I fear it would never make it over the stall's wall.

[Height was always an issue, alas.]

Robots. [ a wrinkle of her nose. ] Whenever we were upstate, my parents made my sister and me muck out the stables -- it builds responsibility, or whatever. I don't think robots much help with that.

Well I could ask you to muck them out. Help you build more character. [Yes that is a completely straight face.] Or we could make Theon Greyjoy do it - he needs more character than all of us combined.

Nice try. I already built all the character I'll ever need. [ not really, but it's just playful chatter. ]

Then Theon Greyjoy it is, once we find these mythical beasts in space. [All the straight faces in the world.]

And why him?

[ kate's not the nerd; her best friends are. ]

Hmmm, if you have not met him, it would be hard to understand. Let us just say that he goes out of his way to push everyone's patience, because he believes he is due more than he has earned.

That sounds like seventy-five percent of humanity-and-then-some on any given day.

That is true ... but Theon makes it seem like it is a particular travesty in his own case. [A sigh.]

Is he a silver-spoon sorta person?

[ shut up kate you were born with like ten silver spoons in your mouth. ]

[He frowned for a moment, trying to remember that reference -- before it clipped.] Spoiled? Absolutely.

Right. Of course. Some people never learn to leap that hurdle, I guess.

So people never do. [He sighed softy.] Some people ought to spend more time in dungeons so they can get that weaned right out of them. It did wonders for me.

For me, it was LA. LA sucked.
