[ kate's surroundings are, quite evidently, a lush little corner of málum. the neon-y blue tinge of the bar's decor casts its colour over her features. there's a tall, impressively concocted cocktail at her elbow. ] I mean, I know I do. So here's how it goes: you tell me anywhere you'd rather be but here, with the caveat that it can't just be a home. I think it's safe to say that home is a very understandable answer, but it's also a little too achingly realistic for my purposes. So pick somewhere else. Pick Ibiza. Pick Iceland, if you want.

Don't get me wrong. The guy's as heroic as they come. [ she signals for a round of fresh drinks. ] But sometimes, heroes can be jerks too.

Like I said, he was provoked. She was some kind of pyromancer -- tried to burn him up, but luckily for him Wolverine doesn't hurt so easily.

[ kate's taking neither side in this story. azula legitimately tried to kill the man, but just didn't realize that the man couldn't be killed. not so easily, at least. ]

[ he's just going to lean his head against the table and long for days where this would have sounded cool first, awful second. ]

Right? [ kate leans her elbows on the table. ] Wolverine's -- well, he's his own brand of wild. But I'd still be glad for him to have my back when things get well and truly futzed up.

This superhero business is a lot simpler back home.

[ there's the good kryptonians - they do good things. there's the bad aliens - they do shitty things. it's such a simpler world when everyone knows their role. ]

Yeah, the lines can get a little blurred with so many people running around. There's a fair amount of in-fighting.

We in-squabble, at worst.

Iron Man and Cap threw down, once. Everyone took sides. It wasn't pretty. [ ... ] I ended up in jail.

The same. Some of us were actually arrested for doing what we do every day -- being heroes -- only with our masks intact.

That's terrible. How long were you in for?

Not too long. Cap broke us out.

[ he nods. jail is for people like his dad, not people like kate. ]

Speaking of! Captain America. What do you think?

Surprising.

[ he didn't expect a guy who looks like that to be that sweet, that gentle, that...much worse than him with girls. ]

I like him, I mean...I think we're friends? I helped him make origami flowers for his not girlfriend.

[ she smiles. she really likes this version of the man -- not that she dislikes the one back home. but he could be a little staid, even before he was de-serumed and old. a little too starchy. a little too stiff.

this one's more endearing. ]

Wow. There's a bullet-point for the resume. Wingman for Cap.

[ he nods ]

And according to him, not a nerd. [ from anyone else, he'd take it as mockery. but steve...steve seemed to genuinely mean it as a compliment. ]

[ a smile. it's nice to move away from the darker topics. whatever issues she's had with cap in the past, there's something to be said about the symbol he represents. even eli, over time, had accepted that cap was alright.

at least, she hoped he had. ]

He's, like, superhero royalty. All roads lead to Cap. He was being a hero way back in the '40s.

She's kind of a fangirl.

[ which did not make him like steve at first, but it's impossible not to. plus, he was really supportive of him and kitty. ]

So. Her version of the world still has Captain America? Good to know. I can never predict where the differences will be.
