(Marsiva's hospitality cannot erase what Maedhros has endured. He is dressed cleanly and his hair is braided neatly and away from his face. Even his burns have been healed with minimal scarring. But there is something untamed in his eyes.

Something that burns like a hungry, desperate fire.)

...why? (His low voice resonates clearly, cutting through the air with ease. He needn't ever shout.) Surely these quarters are not located within the Halls of Mandos?

(He feels life flowing within him and it is wrong. Lifting his only fist, he hits the nearest wall, clenching his teeth.)

Do not trap my fëa. Arda is safer with me dead.

I am...uncommonly tall. Even for an Elf. (Maedhros isn't a bulky Elf either - as if Tolkien Elves ever could be. He has very long legs, but he is well-proportioned, which is how he earned the name Maitimo. It means "well-shaped one".)

[Don't wager money on that assumption Maedhros, you'll end up a pauper.]

Still, Finrod and Maglor are both very tall compared to the elves of Toril. Pure elves only grow as tall as five and a half feet, if they're truly blessed with height!

You have Elves in your world? (Now that catches his interest.) There are different branches of Elves in Arda. I am not the tallest to ever exist - that honor belongs to an Elvish King - but I am taller than most.

Indeed there are.

[She pulls back her hair with both hands, turns her head to the side so he can see her pointed ear.]

We've many kinds as well, but all are invariably short.

Ah forgive me. (Those ears are oh so telling.) Are you immortal as well?

No such luck. While full blooded elves are immortal, my particular heritage denies me that.

You are...mixed? It is uncommon - dare I say rare - for Elves to mix with other races in Arda, but it does happen.

Half-elven is the general term on Toril. We're not as prolific as humans, or any other race, but we're not uncommon either.

There are two who are Half-Elven that I hold dear. You should not consider yourself less or different if you accept your heritages.

[He really does sound like Maglor. In a good way.]

(There is a bias in Arda - and not in a Peredhel's favor. Maedhros does not abide by it, but if others come from Arda, they might not feel the same way.)

Yes, such unions generally are complex. Did my brother tell you for Beren and Luthien?

You've got a security augment, like me. It's a specialty they give out. Not everyone knows everything needed to work the ships. It's a clever tactic. It makes us dependent on each other, and also decreases any one person's ability to find a way out.

Beren was a mortal Man and Lúthien was said to be the loveliest of the Children of Ilúvatar. Yet they did not let their differences interfere with their love and Beren proved his worth through many great deeds. You should ask my brother to sing you the Lay of Leithian.

That's the general idea, but a lot of folks who aren't security can handle themselves. Mostly you're one of those who gets to actually understand the strange weapons that are provided.

Which I appreciate. Since swords and bows are not in use, I should like a suitable replacement. (Once he discovers the weapons' power, he will be pleasantly surprised.)

There's other weapons available on some planets. We've acquired some spears on my ship. I've yet to find a decent sword, however.

That shall be my goal, then. To learn other weapons and acquire a sword. (He likes having a focus.) I wish to protect my brother, my cousin and my shipmates.
