(Marsiva's hospitality cannot erase what Maedhros has endured. He is dressed cleanly and his hair is braided neatly and away from his face. Even his burns have been healed with minimal scarring. But there is something untamed in his eyes.

Something that burns like a hungry, desperate fire.)

...why? (His low voice resonates clearly, cutting through the air with ease. He needn't ever shout.) Surely these quarters are not located within the Halls of Mandos?

(He feels life flowing within him and it is wrong. Lifting his only fist, he hits the nearest wall, clenching his teeth.)

Do not trap my fëa. Arda is safer with me dead.

A pair that is well-suited. (His gaze is helplessly affectionate.)

"I would it no other way." Maglor agrees wryly.

I would change our circumstances, but never our bond.

Not even Finno? [ he points out wryly ]

Finno is not my brother. (He swallows back regret; regret he does not wish to examine too closely. All he knows is that it has nothing to do with Maglor.)

[ Maglor smiles at his brother, understanding what he does not say ]

There is nothing like the bond of brothers.

No. It stands alone. (And the bond and love are fierce.) No one can replace you.

Nor you. I would not change brothers for all the world.

[ it was all that kept him going, and Maglor has not realised until he has Maedhros back how much he has needed his presence and support ]

You deserve a far better brother, Kano. I will not take this second chance for granted. (Young, old or somewhere in-between, Maglor is precious to him; a light he left behind.)

I might say the same. You were the best brother any could ask for.

I could have been much better. My choices...

I made you sad more often than not, I fear.

[ Maglor shakes his head in denial ]

You might have made me sad sometimes, but I...I know you always did your best.

That isn't entirely so.

(But he admits he cannot see the future either.)

It is disheartening when that is not enough. But I think I have learned from my mistakes.

[ Maglor acknowledges ]

I hope we all have. [ but quietly he worries ]

(He tilts his head.)

[ he flushes, caught ]

Sorry. [ he mumbles shyly ]

There isn't any reason to apologize. (He worries too, but he tries to control it. As if such a thing can be lessened through sheer will alone.)

Our past does not make for a promising future.

It does not. [ He sighs softly ]

And I ... I worry about how much they might know... about our past. If ... entertainment is what they seek... what they might... dredge up.

[ If they bring the Silmarils here... ]

Such ominous thoughts will destroy your appetite, Kano. Get rid of them. (Maedhros will fight against such..."entertainment".) We are stronger; wiser.

[ SO DRY ] I think the actual food did that already.
