Damage report, please. Who did the Winter Soldier hurt? Casualties?

[ her thumb hovers. she nearly adds I am so sorry but thinks better of it, in the end. peggy carter is confined to her bed in the captain's quarters aboard the starstruck, propped up on a small mountain of pillows with most of her torso bandaged and wrapped. a pair of broken ribs, at least. she hasn't properly listened to her own damage report, yet. but the consistent throb in the side of her skull suggests winter's initial blow landed harder than she'd first anticipated. one eye is still puffed up, bruised, and swollen to the point where it doesn't see a thing. one half of her face is streak of black and blue now that the blood's been cleared away.

she doesn't use the network's voice or video function. her texts are slow, business-like, and methodical. and she'll text for as long as she can before someone with a busier body than her own shows up to confiscate her device. but she hasn't been able to adequately parse the information that flew quickly and efficiently in the hours following her own fight and black-out and lonely struggle to an empty shuttle.

even now, it's about all she can manage to toggle the privacy settings and message her first mate individually: ] Ahsoka. Please see me in my room. ASAP.

[ a torch must be passed, for the time being. and peggy has a lot of healing to do. visitors are welcome, whether they are aware of her bashed-in state or not. ]

Please, I had Anakin as my master for three years. I don't know if you've met him, but he's pretty much the king of "I don't want to talk about it." I think I can handle it.

I haven't, actually. But I can always appreciate thriftiness with language in a man. [ ...it's a bit of a joke, after all -- steve's not exactly stoic. ]

[ -- her mouth quirks. very nearly a smile, and she ducks her chin. ]

No, you're right. Could be either/or, I suppose.

... I feel like there's a reference to something here that's flying over my head. But I can deal.

Pardon me, I'd not intended to -- fly over your head, so to speak. [ ... ] My lot are known for a particular humour. It doesn't always translate well.

I'm guessing you don't mean humans...

British, actually. I meant the British.

[She perks up, always curious.]

Who're they?

[mucked]

People from Great Britain. It's -- it's a country. Or it's a few countries, banded together. Bit tricky. I suspect you might be a touch more familiar with Americans. Most, ah, earthlings present in the fleet are from America.

... I've heard stuff about it from time to time, yeah.

The whole countries thing is still a little bit weird to me...

Think of them like different planets, if you must. Each with their own government and population and problems and triumphs.

Yeah, I get it. It's just... different.

[mucked]

By scale, certainly. But how else could it be different?

I guess I'm just not used to thinking of planets as having so many different individual governments...

[ now, that's curious. ]

How else are they ruled?

[resnipstance]

Most planets have a centralised government that looks after everything planet-side, and then a separate elected representative that works with them to represent their planet's interests in the Galactic Republic Senate on Coruscant.

...And how many planets are represented at this senate?

[resnipstance]

[Ahsoka names a number somewhere around 10,000. She would know, but the internet sure doesn't.]

Well-- that's how many senators there are, anyway. It's not an exact correlation to the number of planets. Some planets have two or three senators, if they're home to multiple species living on them. Like Naboo or Mon Cala. And then there are the Federations, like the Trade Federation, who aren't a planet so much as a guild. They get Senators too.

[ now that's curious. banged up and busted and bruised as she is, peggy's mind flies quickly to any point-of-purchase for learning. especially when it involves the politics of some other place. these worlds are like puzzles, and she wants to understand how they fit together. ]

-- Business is represented in your senate? They have their own delegates? Hm.

Well, sure. We don't really like them, but... the Trade Federation is the largest commercial guild in the galaxy. They're everywhere. If you're buying and selling, you have to deal with them.

Sounds more like a cartel.

[resnipstance]

Eehhhnnnnhhh... [Ahsoka makes a so-so gesture with one hand in the air, betraying what she really thinks of them.]

Not that I can say it's much different in America. [ or britain, but she keeps that to herself. ] Only big business hides its political interests in the back-rooms of exclusive clubs, funneling money into the pockets of its choice politicians.

We've long suspected the Trade Federation of playing both sides. Of dealing with and funding the Separatists in the interests of prolonging the war. They're just about the only ones who profit from it. Them and the Kaminoans.
