[A hand reaches out to grasp a mechanical limb before grey eyes even blink open to stare suspiciously. Fëanor feels rested, energized even, despite the most recent long hours spent over the forge's fires working on his masterpiece.]

Who dares...?

[Awareness flickers through him and the elf pauses. He sits up from the bed, though doesn't immediately move to get off, nor release the robot's 'arm'. An impatient hand reaches up and shoves a lock of black hair that had gotten free of the loose braid back behind a pointed ear and he studies the robot a bit more closely.]

Do you have a name? Are you a thinking creature? [A pause and he absently hums, head tilting a little in thought.] I think not in the ways of Arda.

['Bot, be glad he has no tools on him.]

[Oh child. Fëanor touches the image of his son again, hating the return of pain and heart ache.]

There is more than you see. I see an elf I am proud to call mine. An elf I am proud to love.

(He can sense his father if he closes his eyes. The fire which has been nothing but ashes for so long is burning merrily.)

I would give...anything...to see our family whole, safe and happy.

[So bright. Fierce and full of love.]

So it will be, if I succeed. [There's a desperate wish in his heart now. That he can hold onto even just the awareness of what his Silmarils do.]

I trust you. (His expression is solemn, set.) We will follow you. Our loyalty never wavered - nor shall it ever.

[See? Proof that he has the best sons. Right there.]

I will be worthy of your loyalty here.

I have never questioned that. (No, he worried far more for Fëanor's mental - and physical - health.) I cannot. We know you outside of the Silmarils. As long as you remain apart, no one can question your worth.

[They have the chance to heal and or remain whole here. Fëanor believes they will succeed.]

With you and Kano at my side, so it will be. Should one of the Silmarils come here, it should be flung far from us, if not destroyed.

We will throw it together. (He pales at the idea of encountering the jewels again, but his jaw is clenched.) We will not falter if we have three pairs of eyes.

[His expression turns fierce and determined.] You will not be left behind. Neither of you will be. I will stay at your side.

Take care of yourself foremost, Atar. If you are whole and healthy, our hearts and heads are strong.

[The answering smile is warm.] I will take care of myself, so that I may take care of you and your brother.

None of us can sacrifice what we do not have. (And it is a joy to see Fëanor whole and sane.) We are without distractions and Enemies.

We will make the most of this, Nelyo. [They can hardly do any less.]

I plan to do so; when I leave the stars, I wish to have no regrets. (Or...less. He would settle for less.)

I expect you to succeed. [His bright son would do no less. He's sure of that.] Know I will not leave here before you easily.

I know you would not leave willingly. (There is so much ground to cover. Is he strong enough?

No. He has to be.) We must encourage Kano to eat. Every day.

Not while you and Kano need me.

[They are strong together.

He frowns slightly, concern touching his fire.] Has that become a problem?

Then you are forever bound! (Is that okay? He smiles, but it fades quickly.) He forgets or so he tells me. I told him that wasn't acceptable.

[Oh Maedhros. Fëanor grins.] I accept your terms.

[The grin fades just as his son's smile had.] We will simply have to have meals together.

You are surrounded by needy sons. I will not ask anything of you but -

Help Kano. He and I share a bond after enduring so much together. Somehow he has kept that bond intact, so I will strengthen it by being the brother he deserves.

Yet I cannot replace you. (As much as he tried to emulate Fëanor - a young Fëanor - it...never worked quite like he hoped.) If we can, that would be the best option.

[Ask nothing of him?

No. Fëanor stares at him fiercely.] You did what you could for him. Now we will both be there for him. As I am here for you now.

(He tugs on his right sleeve absent-mindedly.)

Not enough. (It wasn't...right. His brother suffered and suffered and he did little to chase the shadows away.) I know your heart, Atar. I spent the longest with you.

[Selfishly he's glad he can't be replaced. But if Maglor had had what he needed, would things be better?]

Just as I know yours. Neither of you are alone now. I will remind you every hour if you wish. [He would find a way.]

(Yes. And no. Maedhros knows the only true fix is to...begin again. Start over.)

No, remind him to eat, to sleep, to care for himself. It is the little things we miss most.

[Then begin again he will.]

[Even though he fully expects arguments in the process. Fëanor will find a way. With both of his sons.]
