[the feed shows the view out of the windows on the marsiva hospitality deck. they pan over the view for several seconds, and then stop on a distant ship that is definitely glowing some kinda color most of the ships aren't. most people know this as characteristic of the ss bishop, decked out in flashy lights and obnoxious amounts of color.]

That... is my ship.

[the voice doesn't sound very happy about that, for some reason. the feed turns again, and hiro points the camera at himself. he look... a little confused, and possibly frustrated.]

I haven't been on the Marsiva in months. Last I remember, it was April. That's... not what the comm says. What happened?

I was here for a year before this happened. More than that, like... fourteen months, or something. And yeah, I'm a little bummed. I took being captain pretty seriously.

Wow... that's a LONG time... And I bet you could apply to be captain again if you wanted. I think the Red Fish has THREE captains now.

[Provided they put him on the same ship. They probably will, but still.]

Yeah, that's true. I'll talk to Finrod about it when I get back to the Bishop.

So, did they make accommodations for you to be able to use the tools they have for engineering?

Wait, they do that? I thought all the tools were that size already. My communicator buttons ARE a little bigger, though, and mine has a stylus thingy.

[Yeah, she'd need a larger soldering iron, or she'd burn her hooves every time.]

Yeah, the fleet makes sure all the workers can do their jobs. Cheese's controls are a little modified for him, too. It was pretty hilarious, when our other pilot was a penguin.

There's a world with penguin pilots?!

Apparently, somewhere. Frobisher was Cheese's copilot during the last time the fleet was attacked. That was an interesting duo.

Wait, WHAT?! What attack, Cheese didn't mention any attack!

[One MORE thing Cheese needs to explain eventually. Among with the ursicide and the fact that he loves her... maybe not in that order.]

The fleet has been attacked twice. The first time, we didn't have as many people, and the jobs were all scattered. I don't think Cheese was there yet. The Bishop was nearly destroyed, but the captain of the First Breath at the time saved our butts. His name was Tim, we showed up at the same time. He's one of the best friends I ever made here.

[he misses tim]

But anyway, I spent the next month helping run repairs on the fleet. It was awful. The second attack was late last year; he fleet as a whole did a lot better, but they weren't trying to tear us apart so much as they were trying to corral us into this electromagnetic interference that screwed our systems. Cheese was there for that.

What?! I've been here almost two months and NOBODY'S told me?!

Sounds like you gotta kick Cheese's butt.

Mmmph, maybe not that, but he IS gonna get a text with a LOT of big letters!

Mmmm I might need to, then. I like a good surprise as much as the next pony, but if there's bad guys out here, I've gotta make sure my crew stays safe, you know?

Exactly. There's no point in getting paranoid, but there's no point in not preparing, either.

Exactly. I mean, we deal with surprise baddies back home all the time, so it's nothing I can't handle. But usually I have Twilight Sparkle and Applejack and Rarity and Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy with me, and it's magic instead of... what do these bad guys usually use?
