[Once again, Belthazar wakes up dazed and shivering. He quickly inspects himself to make sure there are no weird marks he doesn't remember. He still has his robes, thank goodness, but he is beginning to panic about everything else.]

No! No, damn it!

[How much time has passed? The fact that Atroma could send him home and then bring him back without any memory of it terrifies him. His father, his crew, his best friend-- all of them are gone. In this room, right now, he is alone. This probably isn't even the same cycle. He's trapped in this hell, over and over again, never to settle, always to mourn--

He screams in frustration and whirls on the closest piece of furniture. Purple lightning darts from his fingertips, scorching and then exploding his bed. The effort leaves him panting in the silence.

Then he notices his communicator and remembers that there are cameras everywhere. He does the sensible thing and freezes like a deer in headlights.]

... I-is someone there?

[Cheese is absolutely delighted to see Belth again. That means he and Hiro have come together, just as they left. That's great, they're a pair and deserve to me together. His ecstatic look drops a little as he realises how freaked out Belth actually is. ]

Hey, Bel. I'm here. You're back on the Fleet. Uh- if you remember the Fleet that is.

[His ears flatten against his hair, like he's just been caught with his hands in the cookie jar.]

Cheese! [He's diving for the communicator now.] I remember! I remember everything.

How long was I gone...? It feels like years. [That's why he's so freaked out.]

[Cheese is visibly relieved by this. He is so don with people forgetting. ]

Oh, phew. And don't worry, buddy. It was just a couple months. Hiro went too, same time.

[Because he knows that'll be important to Belth. ]

He actually showed up a couple days ago. He should still be on the Marsiva with you.

[His breath catches when Cheese mentions his human friend. There are tears welling up already, but he wills them not to fall. More importantly, he's stumbling over the pieces of the bed he destroyed to get out of the infirmary room.]

Ugh! Why is this ship so big!?

[There's no sign of Hiro around right now, so he sighs and sinks against the wall. Truth be told, he's still pretty tired. Maybe he'll just wait for Hiro to get here. Besides, it'd be kind of rude to hang up on his other friend while he goes looking.]

Hey... Are you mad at me for leaving?

Because Atroma don't want to make it easy for any of us.

[They are always incredible douchenozzles, Belth. The pony's smile softens a little, before he lets out a little 'tch' sound to signify how ridiculous a question that was.]

Of course not. For one, we have no power over what happens there, I know that drill. For another thing, you're my friend. Even if you had chosen to go home, I wouldn't have been mad. You would have done it if it was what you wanted, and I'd be happy you'd got that.

[That's comforting, strangely enough. He still can't believe he went from having zero friends to like, four. That's more than he's had in his entire life.

He cradles the communicator and, surprisingly, smiles a little.]

Thank you. [He sniffles.] I do not remember going home, but if I had, I would have missed you. I am sure of it.

Is-- is everything all right? A lot can happen in a few months.

[Cheese gets it, bro. He really gets it. ]

Aww thanks! I'd miss you, too.

[He gives a shrug of his little horsey shoulders.]

We were stuck on this polluted moon for two months. Something to do with teraformers? We couldn't go outside without breathing stuff on. Most of our time here has been with the tech folks working out how to fix stuff.

[Also, because wow, he is excited to tell Belth this. It's more exciting than the moon stuff, honestly. ]

Do you remember the pony from home I told you about? Pinkie Pie? Well, she's here.

[He feels soft and warm inside. This is strange. Maybe he's sick.] Terraforming? That is not something I'm familiar with, unfortunately. At least I didn't miss much else.

[WAIT WHAT]

Is she? You must be ecstatic. She is your best friend, yes?

[You should get that looked at, buddy. ]

Something to do with moving the ground, I think? I didn't really get it.

[He'll just full on BEAM. It's the best thing ever. ]

She is! I'm really glad to have her around again. I missed her so much.

I am glad we left it behind, in any case. I have no fondness for dead places.

[He's lived that. He's done.]

I wonder if she is as overwhelmingly sunny as you are. [It's a little joking.]

Me either. The whole place was just stifling.

[The joke sails over his head. He speaks with increasing excitement and delight. Just talking about her makes him more animated.]

She's even MORE sunny. She's like- like, happiness incarnate. She's just amazing.

Oh, Light. I may not be able to handle it.

[Seriously... he's gonna die.]

Awww, you'll love her! It's impossible not to love Pinkie. She's the absolute best.

[He clears his throat, embarrassed.] I hope I did not leave him alone for too long.

[Ah, Cheese's Joy Incarnate pony. That explains a few things, ne?]

[hiro knows better than to yell when there's an upset belthazar in the vicinity, but he's so excited when he hears that voice, no matter how awkwardly it mixes with the tightness in his chest at seeing him hurting. he hears the explosion outside of the feed, and drops his communicator to run toward it.]

Belthazar!

[he's down the hall when he yells it at least, bless those sensitive ears of belth's, but moments later, he's catching himself on the door frame and curving his trajectory into the room, which he nearly trips doing.]

Crap--whoa.

[but he manages to keep upright, and belthazar only has the time it takes hiro to right himself before he's being subjected to a very tight hug, all full of worry and relief.]

[Belthazar can hear him coming and he, too, heads for the door. What ends up happening is that he slams into the hug, mostly by accident, but as Hiro's arms wrap around him... he realizes that's okay. He's dizzy and cold and the room is spinning and he can't find the mana crystal but... that's okay.

Hiro is okay.

The realization grips him hard. His fingers find their way into Hiro's sweatshirt so he can cling as hard as he did the first time they hugged. He tries to say something but all that happens is an awful squeak into Hiro's shoulder. He swallows hard.]

I-I thought you were gone. I woke up, and I was alone, and--

I know... I woke up here and I thought I'd left you alone. But you left the same time I did.

[hiro is rubbing his back, gently rocking.]

I'm sorry. I didn't think you were coming back... I'm so glad you got here while I was still on the Marsiva.

[That is distracting. He can feel his heartbeat slowing from 'SUPER HIGH PANIC MODE' to 'OH GOD PHYSICAL CONTACT', which is quite the improvement. While he's not usually ashamed of his tears, he feels like it's silly to cry when he has no real idea of the passage of time. As far as his memories are concerned, they've only been apart for fifteen minutes.

But he was scared for that fifteen minutes, so whatever.]

I wish I could say it was because of the promise. Maybe Atroma gives small mercies. I don't know.

[He's never going to let go at this rate.]

I don't remember anything...

I don't care if it was mercy or coincidence, I'm just glad you're here.

[he tightens his hold on him for a moment. it feels so much better to know belthazar is here with him; spending this time alone has been hard, and thinking he might never see belthazar again was harder.]

I don't either. I went to bed, and suddenly I was here. It's been two months since we left...

[Belthazar's grip tightens in return]

Two whole months.

[Either one of them could have left permanently, or returned without memories. The very thought makes his blood run cold.]

I-- I suppose that isn't very long, but... it could have been so much worse.

[He pulls back to look into Hiro's eyes, but something in him gives out and he ends up resting his forehead against the other boy's instead. Please ignore the tears, they've already stopped.]

It could have.

[hiro welcomes the affection, smiling gently.]

But it wasn't. We're here, we remember, and most people haven't left. You were only late a couple days, and I'm pretty sure that's a miracle, because we're both still on the Marsiva. They're not gonna separate us.

[He breathes in, lets it out slowly. His voice trembles, fragile and pale like Belthazar himself.]

They still could... they still could, and I--

[His knuckles turn white against the fabric of Hiro's sleeves. He's always clinging like a little bat that doesn't want to let go. He squeezes his eyes shut and tries to ground himself here, in this moment.]

Hiro, I-I need you to know something. Before I forget. Before I don't get a chance.

[hiro freezes up a little. belthazar is calming himself, in a way, he can recognize that; but...

[is he really..?]

... Yeah?

[He steels himself. Only when he's sure he won't let the moment run away from him does he make eye contact. His voice is small and quiet, yet strong.]

I don't-- I don't ever want to leave you. [His grip is earnest, his face, the very picture of desperation.] Kene'thil surfas. It means-- [It's obvious before he says it.] I love you.

[the words fall on his ears, and it's a lot more honest than hiro was expecting out of belthazar. his only surprise is at the fact that he didn't hold back to try not to drive him off; but when he thinks about it, it's way more like him to just say everything all at once. he knows belth has been sitting on this for a long time, just like he has.

[and hiro smiles, when it settles in with him.]

... I-I... I love you, too. [he can't really believe this just happened.]

I thought I'd be the one to get tired of waiting first. [hiro leans in and kisses his cheek, still nervous and awkward about any kind of physical affection. but then he's pulling him into another, incredibly tight hug.]

[Nah, he's a hundred percent impatient. He's the type to bottle it all up until it explodes and that is precisely what just happened here. Hiro's words don't quite make sense to him, they just float in one ear and out the other, until the other boy kisses his cheek.

He blinks once, then twice, and then a blush lights up his ears. Slowly and awkwardly, but gaining courage, he returns the hug.

He's smiling like an idiot now.]

You've always had more patience than I did. I can't believe you really...

[He lets out a sigh of relief and buries his face in Hiro's shoulder again.]

Still, it's good to have you back. Though I shouldn't be surprised you come back the same week as Hiro. You two are inseparable.

[His eyebrows rise, and then he blushes and doesn't quite look at the communicator. For the sake of this thread we're gonna say they already met up because otherwise he'd just flat out be running around like crazy.] W-well-- he is my best friend, after all! If I had a choice, I would always be with him.

...Probably the Marsiva.

[Where you are now. And is the only big place that you can store people without anyone from the fleet accessing. Just a guess]

[And that tsundere reaction makes him grin] That's sweet. And I'm sure he feels the same way.

Y-yeah.

[Somehow, the thought of going home and not remembering anything seems better than being refrigerated on the Marsiva for eight weeks. It's chilling and it demands his attention.]

Do you really think the others who disappeared are on this ship, Allen?

I...don't know. It's possible. Or they were sent home for awhile.

It's hard to say for sure.

For all the time we spent on the Marsiva, we couldn't explore beyond our prison.

[He sighs and rubs at his temples.]

To be honest, I... don't want to think about it. It is cowardly, I know.

[He smiles and shakes his head]

It's fine. I understand the feeling.

Honestly, most of the time I refuse to answer questions about Atroma or the fleet of this nature. [So, not really one to judge]

I can see why. There is little point in dwelling on something we cannot prove or disprove. We would only grow anxious and afraid.

[He rubs at his nose.]

I, er, hope you have been well.

[ Oh, does she look excited. She's ignoring the tantrum to call out to him with a smile. She looks a little older, strangely enough ... ]
