Okay. For those of you who have never met me, I'm Dr. Keller, the medical officer on the Wonderduck. Firstly, to build off Allen's broadcast not so long ago about assembling first aid kits, I'd like to note that I'm free to teach lessons, too.

Secondly, the attack on the Iskaulit has made me realize- I know next to nothing about medical treatment for nonhumans. I think several of our medics are lacking in such knowledge, too. If anybody would be willing to trade notes, as it were, I'd keep paper copies to be available on request to other medics. Or if someone has any better ideas on how to gather procedures and knowledge and share and store that information, I'm willing to listen.

Oh, you should have said something earlier! I'm sorry I didn't think of it myself but... a good deal of my medical database from home is on the tricorder, if you want to take a look.

I'd like it, yes- you never know when it might come in handy.

Unfortunately Atroma's systems are too different from Starfleet's for a direct transfer, but I've been working on typing up a lot of the information for Allen and Stefan's classes, so I can send you what I've gotten so far.

I can help with that if you'd like. I want to make paper copies where I can, just in case- since we know Atroma can look into and alter content on any devices belonging to them.

It's a good idea. Perhaps we can make a regular date out of it? Transcribing is a lot less of a chore if you've got someone else with you.

I'd like that. We can keep everything up to date and have an excuse to hang out. It's a win-win, I say.

Exactly. Really, we should have done it before.

I kept meaning to try... guess I just needed the proper kind of kick in the butt first.

[Quietly:] I hope we don't have to go through something like this again but... best to be as prepared as we can.

Yeah. No use beating myself up over it [though she well might, lbr], all we can do is try to do better next time. We can't prevent tragedies from happening, not when this place is so unpredictable... but we can do everything we can to help ourselves cope.

The important thing is that we got to everyone in time and everyone got the treatment they needed. We have nothing to feel bad about.

Yeah. We didn't lose anyone, and if we can get together supply caches and the like, we'll have made something good happen. Out of crisis comes opportunity.

And I believe we're almost ready for the surgical center to be complete. Just a few finishing touches, then I can finally fix Wrath's back, now that she's stabilized.

Oh, that would be great. It's not the full-on clinic I wish we could open, but I'll feel better just knowing it's available to us.

It'll be limited, but better than nothing. We're going to have a security system installed and I'd like to give you access, in case you ever need it.

That's good. And I'd appreciate that- sometimes the medbays on our ships are just too small for major things. It'll be good to have that option.

Yes, though I hope that need doesn't come up very often.

Well, uh... I've got plenty of stuff regarding vampires, werewolves, witches, and I think doppelgangers. [He presses his lips together, avoiding eye contact with the camera.]

The issue's more that I don't want my name attached to it. I can send you the files, but if you share them with other people - especially Aunt Beverley - please don't tell them who told you.

Of course. I plan on keeping it strictly paper copies if I can- I don't trust anything that's left on the computers where Atroma or God knows who else can access it. Especially since I know next to nothing about encryption. I'll make sure your name isn't attached.

It's not even that. Remember calibrations? Our comms got wiped without a second thought.

[That still disturbs him more than he wants to admit. Thank God for his handwritten journals.]

Yeah... there's that, too. They can peek in on anything and try to stop us from sharing what we know. Even if they have no real reason to be worried about this.

[She smiled back.]

It couldn't hurt. This whole thing with the attack on the Iskaulit kinda lit a fire under my butt.

Yeah, I can't imagine why they would, but better safe than sorry.

Jen... it's not like you could've predicted that. None of us could've. [Says the guy who's never met Winter.]

It's all part of their control thing. Making sure we know that nothing we do is safe.

[She bit her lip, her eyes gazing off to the side.]

I know. But I'm usually more on the ball than this. I don't know what's been slowing me down.

How considerate of them.

[He leans forward, trying to catch her eye even though there's screens separating them.]

Well, before Winter lost control, there was peace. We've both been here for a year, and I sure can't name any other incident that got people hurt. Not like that.

[Jennifer caught the motion and caught his eye, nodding.]

You're right. Usually the most I have to deal with are bumps and scrapes, maybe a broken bone or a cold here or there. But this was brutal.

Unfortunately. Which means this was the wake-up call we all needed.

[He hesitates,] I know I can't offer much more, but next lesson, why don't you take a look at me? Get a feel for how I'm... [not human] me?

Mmhmm. Let's just hope that this isn't a sign that Atroma's getting bored.

[She also visibly hesitated.]

... Only if you're 100% comfortable with it.

I trust you. I figure you wouldn't leak this to would-be hunters, so..... [he gives a nervous shrug] Let's give it a shot.

Never. And I have a drawer to keep confidential paper records in- I'm very careful about patient privacy. Sometimes it makes the difference between life or death for someone.

Right. I imagine HIPAA would've still been a thing for you.

In that case, I'll see you soon? We can figure out where to go from there.

Mmhmm- and we had the importance of it drilled into us in med school and in the real world.

Sounds good. You know how to get ahold of me.

I would like to learn.

I have some skill with treating injuries, but my skill is several hundred years... out of date, I think is the term.

Good, I'd be glad to have you. Some things probably haven't changed much in that time, but I know I'll rest a little easier knowing we have more people who can help in case of another attack.

Some things never change, I know. [She finds that kind of relieving.] But more knowledge based in modern learning is valuable. When would you be available?

Yeah- there are only so many ways you can improve on setting bones or sewing a wound shut. And anything more serious than that is something the other more experienced medics are here for. But knowing how to, say, apply a tourniquet to slow down bleeding can make all the difference.

Any time that's convenient for you. I usually hold the lessons on my ship, the Wonderduck, since it has a proper medbay and I know where everything is.

I leave the ship regularly to visit the gardens on Saturdays. Perhaps I could visit afterwards?

Sounds good. Maybe I'll see you over there and we can get into the medicinal plants we're growing, too.

Some months now. I arrived just before we visited the station with all of the lovely parks on it.

That was an exciting one. I'm hoping the next planet we land on has some beauty to it- that toxic moon was getting depressing after a while.

Yes. I must confess I wouldn't have visited at all, had I not been persuaded to go to the masquerade.

And even that was barely enough to persuade me. [She grinned.] I'm not much of a party person, though I do try to go to functions like that, just to meet new people.

The persuasion in my case was a crewmate turning up at my door with a dress for me to wear. I was too polite to decline after that.

Hmm... I'm not sure I would've been able to, either. It is pretty difficult to say no to that.
