[... Oh no, she really is too pure for her own good. Dezel clears his throat awkwardly. He's no good with making friends.]

I've only been here a little while. [His tone is gruff, but it's born out of shyness.] Meeting me isn't a huge deal.

I was with the Huntress from the beginning, you know. I'd have liked to be here to see everyone come in, but that wasn't possible after I disappeared. So it's important to me that I can meet everyone here.

[For better or for worse, but everyone Shirley's met so far has been pretty nice.]

[That's a sweet sentiment, but there's just one thing.]

... Is it really the same ship if everyone on it is different?

I don't know. But I'd never find out if I didn't come in the first place.

[He folds his arms and rests them against the table.]

What do you think? Are you going to move back?

[It doesn't sound like an invitation. It's just curiosity, pure and simple.]

I don't know that either, not just yet. I like everyone I've met today. But I like the people on my new ship too, and I'm the only one with a communications augment aboard the Three Twins. I wouldn't want to do them a disservice by leaving when they could need me later on.

[Not a decision she's going to make without a little more consideration. Shirley's been irresponsible before, and it's others who bear that cost.]

[He seems satisfied with this answer. Despite her aura of complete purity and naivete, she's obviously the kind of person to think through her actions. What a damned relief.]

You wouldn't want to be here, anyway. It's too loud. Sorey thinks he can hit every pipe with a hammer and call that doing his job.

[That gets a giggle out of her.]

Well, the ship doesn't look like it's in bad shape, so maybe he's not doing that bad a job.

Are you sure you want to trust a wide-eyed screwball with the safety of an entire ship?

[He's definitely joking now, but his dryness makes it even better.]

[Shirley's still giggling, because in lieu of actually seeing Dezel she's imagining Will in his place, stern old man that he is inside. Will would mean it too. And as one of his kids...]

You haven't mentioned him breaking anything yet.

[She has a point, but he has to keep it going.]

It's only a matter of time. He's from my world-- I know how he solves problems.

[Oops. That's a little bit of Shirley's MO. To be fair, it worked on the ocean...after her friends beat it up. Speaking of which--]

So he's going to talk to the ship about goodness and then start hitting it? That's not very nice.

He always pulls his punches even when he's really mad.

[Oh, Sorey, you big softie.]

Well, that's not very effective at all.

[Says the girl whose hits can barely even be felt, according to Chloe anyway.]
