Second Mission - Broadcast/planetside

Who: Laura Kinney and you! Yes, you!
Broadcast: Fleetwide, for the first part!
Action: Everything else.
When: June/July. During the stay on awkward physical contact planet.

Broadcast

[When the camera clicks on, the screen is mostly obscured by massive tree leaves. They do seem to be moving though, pushed down and out of the way, to finally reveal the very top of the forest. Above the tree houses and even the canopy. It had taken some work, and the better part of a couple hours, but Laura had managed to make her way to the top of the tallest tree she could find.]

[The camera is set down on one of the leaves, pointing out at the distant ocean, and there's some shuffling about and the sound of something climbing the last bit of the way up onto the top of the branch before a hand scoops up the camera again.]

[When she turns it around to face herself, it's mostly to show a shot of the distant volcano behind her. The climb has left her a bit sweaty and dirty, her short torn in at least two places, and her hair is tugged back into a thick braid. Somewhere along the climb she picked up one of the fluff slugs things, and the little blue and green creature is perched on her shoulder, cooing quietly.]

[Laura...actually smiles faintly? And almost looks happy As she looks around? And then her green eyes flick back to the camera.]

Better than the last planet.

[Is all she's going to say before she turns the camera back to the view, showing off the trees and ocean and volcano again, before she turns it off with a click.]

A - Lurking: Early on after landing:

[Laura hadn't known what to expect really, so when her first attempt at a brief conversation had resulted in the strange native randomly taking her hand halfway through, she had jerked away and basically bolted. At least she hadn't stabbed them?]

[It was then that she noticed everyone seemed to be holding hands, or touching, or hugging. Laura wasn't explicitly against physical contact, you couldn't have a history like hers if that was the case, but now it was only welcome if she invited it. And...that seemed to be a bit of a problem on this world.]

[So she just started skirting the edges of everything, looking around without approaching anyone, fading into the background whenever she could. Her discomfort was constantly evident on her face. Maybe she should just go back to the ship...]

B - Climbing

[At any given time, Laura could be found monkeying around in the trees, usually not too far off the ground, somewhere between there and the tree houses. It let her explore and observe with less risk of someone trying to hug her or touch her. Anyone else doing the same thing would probably be tracked down by her eventually to be stared at met.]

C - Hot Springs

[It was hard to resist alone time on this world, especially when it came with something as relaxing as the springs out near the volcano. After she'd discovered them, it had taken a little while for her to decide they were probably safe, at least if she found relatively small ones where she could be alone. Luckily they were tourist-trappy enough that they didn't seem to attract too many natives.]

[Of course, that didn't mean other people couldn't stop by to use one. Or the rare friend actually going there to meet her.]

D - Hunting

[After the dying moon, and being trapped on the ship for weeks at a time, Laura was desperate for an excuse to use her skills for something worthwhile. When she'd realized she would need the local money, it hadn't taken her long to locate the people willing to pay for hunting local game. She went out twice with the hunters themselves, observing, keeping her distant to avoid randomly being touched while they explained things. Picking up the game trails and the ideas of the beasts.]

[And then she started on her own. Once a day for a few hours she could be found out tracking down one manner of creature or anything, or dragging back a kill to sell. She didn't use any weapons of course, and had a tendency to look a bit bloody, but you couldn't argue with her results...]

E - Fluff Island

[Seriously. An island full of cute little positive emotion fluffballs? Laura might even actually smile there. And wind up taking a few home. Oops.]

F - The Red Fish

[Laura returned to the ship every other night or so to sleep, typically looking disheveled and dirty from her time out exploring. Where was she sleeping the rest of the time? Who knew, really. Probably in a tree. She was a lot like a little kid playing in the forest, at this point.]

[Even bringing home strays, judging by the two big tanks she had bought for her room, one aquatic and one not, each slowly gathering a small collection of the fluffy slug animals.]

G - Wildcard - Laura can be run into most places outside on the planet, or back on the ship. Throw something here, or ping me to discuss an idea and I can put up a prompt!

I'm a teacher, though. I just - don't call myself a professor, or have the schooling for it.

[and he argues the fact with Charles all the time, but details.

He nods]
I'm one, too.

Not really. But like I said - you can call me what you want.

[usually he insists on Hank, but he's been less insistent with the other mutants. Even if it takes some getting used to.

He watches her climb higher, head tilted curiously]
What brings you out here?

[that's okay, he'll tolerate it for her.

He tilts his head back to watch her and can't help but grin]

I'm glad I'm not the only one. [it would be a lie if he said he didn't take this work because of the climbing part. Well, half. He wanted to help, too, but - the climbing appealed to him, too]

Mm, it is. [he considers for a moment before he reaches up, grabbing a branch and pulling himself up. He was mostly done with his work anyway, he can take some time to climb with Laura]

I doubt there will be anyone up here trying to do that. [he says it with a small smile] Just on the ground.

[he's certainly following, moving to the side and picking up the pace just a bit so he isn't calling up to her]

Ah - I'm sorry. [he tried to avoid going into the houses for that very reason] But no one climbing up will try. I hope, anyway. They haven't with me.

It was the first thing I did when I came out here.

[because no one could pass up that opportunity]

[he gives her a few moments, if she's trying to think of a way to put it, before he speaks up, a hint of gentle teasing in his voice]

It left you speechless?
beathach: (04)

that's okay! Hope you had fun <3

It does have that effect.

[it certainly did that to him, the first time he reached the top of the trees and took a good look around]
