001 greendream | video & action

Who: Jojen Reed & you
Broadcast: Fleetwide
Action: Marsiva
When: 7/3

[ The feed starts when deep green eyes open, they don't open to feel relieved or rested - they open with the same dark circles under them that Jojen Reed has had for far too long. The boy may have been asleep but he did not rest. In all honesty, he can't remember closing his eyes. It doesn't make him nervous, or at least it doesn't seem to, however. He's used to being so worn thin that blinking turns to rest. What the thirteen year old isn't used to is awakening in a room so odd looking, and on a bed he'd consider far more comfortable than any he's been on in a while.

The chill that reaches down and wraps around his bones is not one he is unused to either, but the coldness of the floor on his bare feet etches a languid frown in his features when they find the floor. He doesn't move for a long moment, simply observing his surroundings.
]

Meera? Bran?

[ His voice is quiet and cautious, almost like he doesn't actually want anyone to hear him. He isn't to die, not yet. Instead of pulling himself off the bunk, the boy glances down to the floor, observing its craftsmanship oddly but curious. Fear tinges somewhere deep under his skin, but he pushes it back, and instead reaches for his shoes - discarded by someone other than him - next to his bed. If he is going to be caught off-guard, he will not be doing it barefoot with the possibility of having to leave his shoes behind and trudge through snow again.

He just wants to go home.
]

Hello?

[ He isn't used to feeling like such a fish out of water, not when it comes to knowledge of the situation he's in. For someone who often looks aloof in even the most distressing situations, he looks young and confused. ]

[ Maybe it was a mistake for him to be the one person to use the video option, but there's no fixing it now. His eyebrows knit together as he tries to place Jojen. Has he seen him before, somewhere in the chaos of Winterfell? Maybe, but there had been too many people, too many faces staring upon him with nothing but loathing in their eyes. If Jojen was among them, he can't quite remember. He had hardly paid the mudmen much mind at all, truthfully, beyond eyeing Meera up a little but that isn't the point. ]

I didn't drown anyone.

[ I didn't burn anyone. I didn't flay anyone. I was trying to keep them safe.

The hatred really does radiate off of Jojen, and Theon wishes he could place him now more than ever.
]

Who are you? I won't ask you again.

[ Shit, he's right. He won't do anything if Jojen doesn't answer him. And shit, he's double right, he is weighed down by a heavy heart.

Jojen has hit all the right nails on the head, and Theon doesn't like it.
]

Are you weighed down with the stupidity of that question?

[ It's a childish, biting response, but it really is very telling. His shoulders have already sunk beneath the weight of his guilt. If he could, Theon would erase every little thing, even refuse to let Robb send him back to Pyke. He would probably live out the rest of his life as a prisoner, but isn't that better than feeling even more lost and burdened than ever before? ]

I know what I've done. I don't need you to remind me.

[ Theon doesn't like how easily Jojen can read him; or how easily everyone seems to be able to read him recently. Either they just never took notice before, or Theon's armor is finally wearing thin. Either way, "drowning" may very well be the only real way to describe how he's been feeling since Winterfell began to slip through his fingers.

He laughs bitterly, thinking back to what Asha told him. You were beaten and broken and flayed. You looked as if you'd been dead for weeks. He still doesn't know all the details, but his condition must have been horrifying to make Asha react to him the way she did. Nothing gets to Asha like that.
]

What good is a head without a skin?

[ Dont worry, Jojen. He'll remember you eventually. He just needs to do a bit of wallowing. ]

[ Wait, wait, he's got it. He's got something. His eyebrows furrow as Jojen speaks, and a brief flash of recognition passes across his face just as those unseen quotations are spoken. ]

You're one of the mudmen. You have a sister. We held you hostage in Winterfell.

[ The other ironborn had tended to the hostages, but Theon hadn't been completely absent. He can hardly form a memory of Jojen, but he can just barely recall him and his sister acting as Bran's shadows for some time. ]

It wasn't I who did the flaying.

[ But you allowed it. His stronger, bloodier memories of Winterfell attest to that. ]

But I will suffer the same fate by the same hands. Does that fact bring you joy?

His name was never Reek. He was Ramsay Snow, Roose Bolton's bastard son.

[ His expression looks pained as he thinks back upon it. How was he so blind? Those eyes--were his eyes not identical to Roose Bolton's? Chips of cold, pale ice. And the flaying--he should have known. How could he not have known?

He won't meet Jojen's eyes. He felt much bolder just a few moments ago. Now he feels as if video was a terrible idea.
]

I would never have harmed any of you.

[ I never wanted to harm anyone. But Theon had been so desperate to hold onto something that his own words--"there will be no flaying in the north so long as I hold Winterfell"--became nothing more than a whisper in the back of his mind. How did he let himself become so easily manipulated? ]

I've known Bran and Rickon for their entire lives.
