[ Video/Intro ] Second Lease on Life

[ Itachi's been tinkering with the video feed. He kind of gets it. But he accidently turns it on while just trying to use the camera function to pick confetti out of his long, black hair. A red eye stares back. ]

...Who knew the afterlife would throw me a welcoming party. [ Because really, where else would he have gone to? He's buried in the sky, among stars. His fingers bat at his hair more, getting the rest of the glitter out. He'll probably be sparkly for a couple of days. However, his eyes catch sight that he is recording... and his expression softens, before going flat. He's got an incredibly similar face to someone else on board. ]

Ah. I've been caught. [ He doesn't say anything more--but the camera shows it moving away from his face before shutting off completely. ]

[ His focus has been devoted less to the network lately, attention given -- as it perhaps too often is for an alleged genius -- to the physical rather than the mental. All the same when he takes a break from an excessive training routine to take a cursory note of updates he feels his heart leap into his throat.

The sight of the sharingan alone is unmistakable even before that achingly familiar voice speaks up.

Itachi, here. Seeing Ino had been a surprise, seeing Naruto had been a shock, but this? Naruto and Ino were both alive when Sasuke had been spirited away from their shared home. Itachi, on the other hand, is someone he'd resigned himself to living without. ]

... you're here. [ It's all he can think of to say at first, video focused solely on his face. ]

[ That voice. It's unmistakeable. After all, he heard it last about a day ago. Or, at least, for him. Itachi could never forget that voice. ]

[ Or that face. ]

[ He's silent when he looks into the camera feed. His brother is staring back at him, but he looks a little different from when he last saw him. Not by a lot, but... ]

[ He attempts to keep the shocked expression off of his face. What is Sasuke doing here? He knows he's dead... did... did he die right after? Had he gone too far and his brother's life had ended beside him as well? That was not in the cards at all... ]

...Otouto. [ The greeting is brief, because he's not entirely sure what to do at the moment. ]

[ There's a definite assuredness and control to Sasuke's expression that he hadn't possessed before and certainly not during their battle, mask now well-honed despite the thoughts racing through an already preoccupied mind.

What does Itachi know? What does he remember? ]

... how long has it been now since you arrived? [ And so he defaults to questions with objective worth that are less likely to have him dwelling on emotion instead of returning a brotherly title. ]

...I arrived this morning, before I was assigned to this living quarters. [ Yes, normal conversation is... just fine by him. A little strange, though, considering what he just came from. ]

Why... are you here? [ Because... he was dead, wasn't he? ]

[Sora really doesn't know Sasuke very well. In fact, he didn't know him at all. But they were on the same ship, and this guy looked very much like Sasuke- so that's something! Oh let's be real, like Sora even needs a reason to talk to people]

Hey, you okay?

[ And then suddenly a young boy is talking to him. Itachi's eyes flicker rapidly across the screen, taking in the face of the young man displayed before him. He picks a small string of confetti sticking out of his hair with a languid motion. ]

I am. Thank you. [ The response is courteous, but not exactly an invitation for discussion. Not that he'd stop anyone from talking with him, of course. ]

[ Well, well, well. Look who it is.

Fortunately (or not?) she knows enough about what Itachi was trying to accomplish these days that she's not particularly afraid of him. She's mostly just surprised that out of all the people that could have been brought from their world ...

Well. The Uchiha brothers will be rich very soon, that's for sure.

She has no idea if he'll even recognize her -- after all, by appearance alone she's more than ten years older than she would have been the last time he was in the village, but ... there is a signature look to the Yamanaka, after all. ]

So you're here, huh?

[ While Itachi doesn't really recognize her (she was a little girl, and, in the long run unimportant in the grand scheme), she does look familiar. he can't quite place his finger on it, but... the blond hair, the high ponytail... ]

[ But, he can't make assumptions. Not when he's in a place with such a wide scope of people. ]

...Do I know you?

Okay... [Maybe he's the dramatic type if he's talking about the afterlife. Sure, why not]

Well, welcome to the fleet! The confetti's just when someone new shows up on a ship.

I gathered. [ He's gonna be picking out glitter for days, he can feel it. ] Are you part of the welcoming committee? [ ...There's slight sarcasm there, but his voice poses it as if it's a real question. ]

[If there is sarcasm, Sora doesn't pick it up]

You know, I don't think there is one. It's just something people seem to say to new arrivals.

[ Oh you precious thing. ] I see. [ New arrivals? Well, he supposes people die all the time, and he was just shuffled off a big ship into... another ship? Honestly, he had no idea what was going on, other than the fact that he died and now he's here.]

...Is it a good idea for you to be talking to strangers? How old are you? [ He looked young, to say the least. ]

[Now that's just rude!]

Hey. I'm fifteen! I'm old enough to know if I should talk to someone.

Fif...

[ There's a bit of silence. ]

Fifteen is hardly an age that one can be sure about anything. Talking to men you don't know is the pinnacle of bad decision making... but...

...Since you're cute, I'll amend the situation. My name is Itachi. [ There. He's no longer a stranger, little boy. ]

[ A single day, then. Perhaps that's a good thing, though...

Let's be honest, how many interactions do we get to have that aren't 'weird' or at least unorthodox. ]

That question's not easily answered for either of us. The being or beings that select people to come here seem to do so indiscriminately... though I'd imagine our reunion in particular was planned since we know one another.

So this has all been set-up beforehand. [ Well isn't that just the fucking story of their lives. ]

...You're... not dead, are you? [ He's a little... concerned that's a weird question to ask but HEY, YOU KNOW. ]

[Yeaaaaah, being told he's cute in the way that clearly means "puppy cute" is exactly what a teenager wants to hear. You can almost hear the little "hmph" sound on his end as he turns red with embarrassment]

Sora.

[ He should be so lucky.

The question is a stark reminder of the separation between the two of them despite Itachi's intentions, momentarily hesitating. He's had time to process Itachi's death not once now, but twice. And now he has to go through it again? ]

No, I still survive in our world. [ The last Uchiha, an actually accurate title this time. ]

... what is it that you last remember?

A pleasure, Sora-kun. [ You're cute, get over it. It's the card that's been dealt. Use it in your favor. ] Thank you, for the warm welcome.

[ When Sasuke says he survived, there is an instant look of relief that the other found impossible to hide. Really, that had been his only concern. Everything else, where he was, how he got there... well. He was dead, right? He had already come to accept his fate, whatever that may be. ]

[ At what he last remembers... ]

Dying, of course. [ But he has no idea of what transpired after he smiled and... ]

[ Then everything just went black. And then he was here. ] You should know that. [ Considering he died right in front of him. But, the question puts him at unease... as if he should remember something else. ]

[ That . . . sure looks like a carbon copy of Sasuke, save for a few marked differences. A sibling, most likely. Obi-Wan runs a hand through his beard, contemplative before he responds. ]

You're not dead. At least . . . not here. Caught by who?

Not dead... here?

[ This is some new information. Everyone else has just been... confusing, at best. ]

...I didn't mean to utilize the... recording function. [ And now the whole ship got to see him primping, wonderful. ]

You can probably see for yourself. After all, there are telling signs if you are dead at this moment.

[ He shakes his head. ] I'm sure it's fine. People are often unused to the level of technology here. Would you like me to privately lock this conversation?

"Kun"? [This is the second time he's had someone attach that to his name.]

And it's nothing. [Just something nice you say, that's all. No one should have to feel alone in this place]

...I'd like that, thank you. [ If he was really able to do such a thing, by all means. Itachi's always been a private person, anyway. And, this person seems as if they could give him decent information. Bonus: he's not a little kid. ]
