Hello everyone! Since the network seems to double as the fleet-wide Chanter's board, I thought I'd put out a request for some help. I'm looking for a few people - no more than three - to come help hunt down one of these big scaly beasts in the forest. Any companions chosen to come along are welcome to its hide, meat, or whatever else; I'm just after a few of its bones for a project.

Any and all skill sets are welcome, but I'd like if there was at least one person with better than my middling healing magic. At least one person versed with a shield might be a good idea as well, but not strictly necessary.

This part of the forest is quiet, too quiet, which is why Adalwolfe is guessing their quarry uses this as its stomping ground. The other forest animals would know to keep away after awhile, so this is likely the heart of its territory. The trees are taller here - though it hardly matters considering how tall they are anyway - but the ground cover is more sparse. The gentle slugs can still be seen dotting the trunks of trees and the leaves of the few ferns growing here and there, but any other wildlife is either well camouflaged or simply not present. The only noise aside what they make themselves is the breeze through the trees and echoing birdsong from high above in the canopy, where even the giant lizard's head can't reach.

It's perfect.

"Everyone be on your guard," Adalwolfe warns, his new and unfinished dragon-headed staff in hand and a note of glee behind his tone. This gets his blood pumping more than harmless sparring or running the Iskaulit's obstacle course. Facing danger, big sharp teeth, and the possibility of death? Bring it on!

Oh good, I wouldn't want to have to break your heart when I'd only just met you.

[He wipes his brow in mock relief, pleased that she's playing along rather than being offended. He keeps sticking his foot in his mouth these days, apparently, and it's starting throw him entirely off. He'd never had this trouble at home.]

But it does seem odd to me that there only seem to be duplicates of us and not anyone else, as far as I know.

[No worries, Hawke: generally Beverly loves harmless flirting. She's just relieved this isn't as awkward as her encounter with Marian.]

Don't worry, you're not the first or the only duplicates. Have you met Captain Kirk?

[He gets a very brief smirk across his lips at her mention of Kirk, having some private thought.]

Yes, I've met him. Was there another Kirk before?

[Well that brings to mind all sorts of fantasies...]

No, not here. But he's from a universe parallel to my own and I know of his counterpart in my world.

[She smiles.]

Apparently I have multiples of myself in other universes as well, but I have not had the pleasure of meeting them myself, I just know others who have.

I'd never heard about phenomena like that before arriving here and then you make it sound like a normal occurrence.

[He chuckles at the very idea.]

That does make me feel a little better, though, knowing I'm not the only one.

I wouldn't say it's normal but we've been aware of the presence of parallel universes for quite a long time now.

Better than us. This is all entirely new to me.

Yes well... plenty of other things are new here. Magic, for one.

There's no magic in your world?

[Hard to imagine.]

[She shakes her head.]

None.

[Truth be told, she still believes there must be a scientific explanation behind people's magic abilities here, but she's long learned to let that go... it may irritate her 24th century mind to call such things "magic" but it's not worth arguing about. The relationships she has with people are much more important than that. She smiles softly.]

Hawke - Garrett - was the first person to show me.

Oh, interesting. It's good you had a gentle first introduction to magic, then.

[He imagines this Garrett would be something like himself, maybe show off a bit, but certainly try to give the impression that magic isn't something to be feared any worse than a sword or a bow.]

I imagine he was pleased.

And surprised, I think, that I was interested and not frightened by it.

That makes sense. I don't know if he told you, but Thedas isn't generally overly kind to its mages. At least not anywhere but Tevinter.

He did.

[And it upset her greatly when she found out. Even if she doesn't understand magic or have experience with it, that's no reason to shun someone.]

I'm sorry it's that way for you too.

That's just how Thedas is, I'm finding. Would that I could meet someone from a time further than mine and find out if it's changed.

[He laughs a bit, but there's a melancholy quality to it, a hint that he's really not sure if it's truly possible. Not that he'll stop hoping for it though.]

We're working on it, when I'm from, but it's an unhappily bloody process.

I know. But you must not give up hope.

[wolfehawke]

Of course not. Just because something feels hopeless doesn't mean that's the case. Only... I don't know. I sometimes wonder if the damage we've done outweighs the good and it's time for us to step out of the center of things. Let someone else better at politics sort things out.

[He runs a hand over his face, looking suddenly very tired.]

I know there are those in power now willing to work for the cause where there weren't before, but a lot hangs on who becomes the next Divine and what her policies are. I'm really not sure if--

[He stops himself, looking at Beverly, then laughs a bit again, this time sheepishly.]

I'm sorry, this probably sounds like nonsense to you.

[She shakes her head.]

Not nonsense. I may not understand all of it, but it's good sometimes to talk these things through out loud.

I suppose. It's fairly difficult to try and hash it out with anyone who actually does know what's going on since there's an emotional stake in it for everyone in Thedas, either religion or magical or personal, the list goes on.

[He sighs, spreading his hands helplessly.]

It's all moot anyway unless we can get back.
