[ The video starts, shaky before it focuses on Charles. Well, Charles and the suddenly large box that drops in his path, effectively blocking him. For a minute, he glances around, surprised before he tentatively opens the box --

And the music starts, tinny and loud. He winces as he pulls out the swimming caps from the box. The note attached says, "Congratulations on getting closer to baldness!". Charles drops the caps back in the box. ]

Charming. I don't suppose anyone wants these? Free of charge

[ Action - locked to Erik, Raven, Hank and Moira ]

[ They had decided on the beach . . . though it seems that as though the plans were made ahead of time. Charles isn't bothered, more amused and touched by the amount of preparation and dedication that had gone into the event. He hadn't celebrated his birthday in years, years spent with Hank in an empty mansion, trying to down out each other's mutual sorrow.

Now . . . he's not sure how to feel about it, but the feeling of appreciation hasn't wavered yet. It's close to late evening and the sun is setting over the vast sea. ]

( Charles can be found on the Heron for most of the day, save for the evening )

You must have some dedicated fans- even if their method of expressing admiration is a bit... odd. What exactly were those things in the box, anyway?

Oh - They're swimming caps. They keep the hair from drifting into your face when you swim.

How convenient.

[And it also explains why she didn't recognize them.]

Do you do much swimming, then?

[The chair could be for show..?]

[ He smiles faintly. ]

Ah, no. I can't swim anymore. This is more of a joke to play on the fact that I lose my hair in the future.

Hmmm...

[Robin scrutinizes him through the video feed as best she can.]

You do have some rather distinct features. I think you'll look quite handsome, actually.

[ He blinks, caught off guard by the compliment. ]

Oh, uhm, thank you. I'm really not that -- I'm rather old at this point.

[Robin giggles.]

Age is but a number. Some men are old before they've fully grown, and others die young and free in spite of a few wrinkles.

Death is death as far as I know. I don't know if there's a youngness or freedom in it. At least, none that I've ever noticed.

Have you died, before?

A few times. I've lost count.

[Now she looks really interested.]

What is it like? And how did you manage to come back?

The, ah, benevolent overlords had special powers to do that.

As for what it was like . . . I don't believe that's a fitting topic for conversation.

Forgive me, then. Death is the final, great mystery after all. I can't help but be curious.

It isn't permanent, here?

I actually don't know. If there are instances of someone dying here and reviving, no one has spoken about it.

I was speaking more of the other places I've been to.

[Robin's eyes grow wide for a moment.]

Oh, I've heard of people having been transferred elsewhere first before coming here. How many different worlds have you been to?

Two so far. Though they were very similar in nature.

Did they have names? Some friends of mine lived briefly in another reality that was called Adstringendum. I'm thinking it might be beneficial to document these other places as well, in order to better understand what has happened to our fellow fleetmembers.

The library and Kyriakos.

[ There's a bitter twist in his lips. ]

[Aw, what jerks would make a library awful? Robin hopes someone beat them soundly for that.

Also she scrambles for a notebook and a pen to write them down.]

The library. I can think of several possible spellings for the second. Would you mind giving me the right one? And what were they like, briefly. My friends said their world had broken time, and began importing people, places, and things from many different worlds and time periods. Your memories seem unpleasant, so I won't ask for more than that.

[ He nods. ]

Well, they involve games. Specifically, people were placed on teams and made to compete against each other. As such, the games ranged from pleasant to brutal, even fatal. Then they would bring us back and repeat the pattern.

[Robin writes down her best guess at the spelling, and makes notes about what was required of them. It takes another moment for what she'd just written to sink in.]

....What horrible people! Why would they-

[She stops herself then. After all, she said she'd stop asking after his explanation. After a moment she glances back up at the camera, expression sincere.]

I'm sorry you had to go through something like that. Is there... I mean, naturally repeated trauma takes its toll on people in different ways, but perhaps there might be ways others can help you adjust after such an ordeal?

[ He shrugs, loose-limbed. ]

I don't see how there's much point to it now. You either adapt or you don't.

Have others come from either of those worlds to here?

[You might be a tough guy, but that doesn't mean everyone is.]

[ He frowns lightly but nods. ]

There are a few from Kyriakos. I'm sure they'd be happy to tell you more.

[ Charles himself wants little to do with them. ]

Doubtful, but thank you for the information, regardless.
