[Someone is definitely growling. You'd think he was a dog, but then he seems to form words. Every consonant sounds like a knife against stone.]

I'm staying away from the planet for a while. If anyone needs me—

[He hesitates.]

—too bad. [And he hangs up.]

[Despite his grumpy broadcast, Dezel can be found in certain places. One of them is Crowley's bar. He's invisible, but that doesn't stop him from cleaning glasses and making tiny, pretentious food. If you can't see him, it's like some invisible Christmas elf keeps leaving tarts everywhere.

Alternatively, he can be seen (or not seen) sulking in the Huntress' cargo bay, sitting on some boxes beside a window. In his lap is a fuzzy happy little slug that he strokes with due diligence.]

[Okay for someone who's totally out of the loop in the Seraph drama? This is just bizarre. Okay, Dezel throwing fits isn't bizarre- that's pretty normal. But it's usually over some animals or his room. But him refusing to be on a planet full of animals in favor for a ship with much less animals? Now that's weird.]

[And so sometime when he's sulking on the Huntress, Sora will approach while trying to seem casual.]

[He's definitely sulking, visibly so, when Sora finds him. His fingers still in the plush fur of the fluff slug. He looks down from his perch. He's so grumpy that there's not even a smile, but then again, that's probably normal.]

I thought you'd be down on the planet. [Simba needs to stretch his legs, after all.]

[Yeah the lack of smile is pretty Dezel like]

Sure, but I can't stay down there all the time. Something would probably eat me if I slept down there.

[He thinks about the big lizard-like hellion things he's encountered while roaming around. And then he thinks about Sora's size, disposition, and general aversion to fighting.]

[ For a long time there's nothing, only the sound of the wind - hah - before there's a voice. ]

Too bad, hm?

[Crowley's loving the pretentious food. It's great, far better than he can conjure up. Plus it's fun, watching people getting freaked out about the magically appearing food. Got to get your kicks somewhere.]

So. What did the planet do to you? Did the tree make you have feelings? Because it's pretty rude, all things considered, that tree.

[Yeah thanks for the confidence in him, Dezel. Sora doesn't think anything of it though, he knows he's nothing special.]

Well, I was kinda wondering what you're doing up here. I kinda thought you'd be taking every chance you could to be enjoying nature, like Mikleo.

[Dezel's not the only one who can be found in Crowley's bar. Adalwolfe, for all his reckless carelessness, is always punctual for his shifts at Malum and so again here he is at 2am after a full day of work on planet at three different jobs there as well and starting to look run down. Even so, he seems quite happy as he moves to put on an apron behind the counter.

The reason for his happiness is readily apparent, as trotting at his heel just as happily is a mabari puppy only as tall as Hawke's shin and wrinkled as a raisin, not having grown into his own skin yet. With a whistle through his teeth, Hawke waylays the pup from coming behind the counter, instead pointing at an out of the way corner. The pup whimpers for a moment, wanting to stay with Adalwolfe, but after a kind of stern look turns its stubby tail towards the corner where he was directed.

He doesn't actually make it to the corner though, instead being waylaid by Dezel - whom Hawke still can't yet see and had no idea is there. Ser Drools on the other hand is pleased as punch to make a new friend and trots right up to the seraph with a happy bark of greeting, stump of a tail wagging the puppy's entire rear end with it.]

Drools, what are you doing?

[There's no anger in Hawke's voice as he calls to his dog from in the middle of filling a bowl with water behind the bar, just confusion at Ser Drools apparently greeting thin air jovially.]

[Dezel responds not with words but by tightening the curl of his body against the ship's hull. The fluff slug takes the opportunity to burrow into Dezel's elbow. He doesn't seem to notice, or care.]

I was, and I did.

[He knows that's not going to be enough to satisfy Sora, but he's not sure how to explain this.]

... Someone from home showed up.

[FUCKING ZAVEID. Just the person he didn't want to hear from. He must be crazy, seeing this message and then responding-- Dezel just gazes at his communicator in total disbelief.

He could crunch it between his hands. He almost does.]

Zaveid...

[He sounds nice and friendly, like a dog that wants to bite your hand off.]

[Dezel is in the middle of making gelato when Crowley decides to pry. How is he making gelato in a bar? We don't know, but there's magic involved. If Crowley is paying attention, he may notice that Dezel uses his wind to cheat-- a hot breeze one time, a chill another. Who needs kitchen appliances when you have your very own convection oven and/or refrigerator?

He focuses on stirring what's in the bowl, and doesn't make eye contact. Then again, he wears a big hat and has a lot of bangs, so eye contact is difficult in the first place.]

It wasn't the tree. [He has nothing against the tree, even though it may have made him miss old friends. It's not the tree's fault. There is a wonderful thing about nature, even alien nature, and that is... it's alive. And because Dezel is a part of nature, he is also alive, intrinsically connected to his element in a way that he could never describe to Crowley or anyone else. It makes him feel... more. Like someone put a brightness filter on the whole world.]

It's... someone from my world. He's more trouble than he's worth.

[Oh, it's that guy again. Dezel keeps quiet and watches to see if Adalwolfe can see him yet, but apparently not. At any rate, he's more interested in the dog. All of his reservations disappear when the dog scents him and wanders over. Dezel sets a new tray of tarts on the countertop-- which Hawke is free to notice-- and kneels, instead, to scritch the puppy beneath the ears.

The puppy can lick his face all he wants, he doesn't mind, though he'll gently guide Ser Drools away from his mouth.]

It's nice to meet you, too. [There is a disembodied voice talking to your dog.] ... Has he been giving you trouble? [A pause.] No, you can't live entirely on treats. You're right, though. [Look at that little butt wag. Witness the intense wiggling as Dezel scritches the base of his tail.] You'll grow up big and strong, I'm sure.

[ Well, he's not just going to hide away forever, is he? There's no point in playing pretend, and Zaveid wants to be here and see Dezel... Or, at least, in this case, hear him.

[The silence here is so thick that you can cut it with a knife.

Though it's, uh, interrupted by... nature sounds????? They sound tinny, and if Zaveid notices, they repeat after a few seconds. Dezel also notices that it's a bit too loud and smacks something, and the noises stop.]

[ Zaveid is quiet, for a moment, the humour slipping away before he huffs a noise. He can hear the noise and it ends up stopping, but - all the same, he notices. Shaking his head, he flops back onto the ground behind him. ]

If you want me to go you can just say. Ignoring me hurts!

[At the risk of sounding like an actual toddler...]

Really? You're the one following me around!

Hey! I've seen you once!

[ HUFF. :T. His voice drops to a quieter mumble, though. ]

Can you blame a guy for checking in on people?

[Dezel isn't quite sure what to make of that. So of course he... gets... mad. And out comes something he's been trying to keep on the down-low because, y'know, it upsets people.]

Shut up! I don't need to be handled with kid gloves just because I'm dead!

[Only Zaveid gets under his skin like this, and that hasn't changed.]

[ Zaveid makes a low noise in the back of his throat, and then his voice comes out, just as low and tinged with his own anger. ]

That's not why I'm checking on you.

[ And, well, there we go. He huffs a little noise and sits up, the sound of his footsteps echoing.

'It's because I care', but he doubts Dezel cares. ]

Looks like you're doing alright by yourself. I'll catch you later.

[... What. It's not? What? That doesn't make sense. Then again, nothing about Zaveid make sense. Wind seraphim tend to be flighty, but Zaveid's mood changes like the direction of a bird on the wing, and it makes him hard to follow.

Fuck. They have a lot of things to talk about, and he just can't... figure it out. He huffs and tucks the brim of his hat invisibly.

This time, he's not yelling.]

[Dude answers like that would satisfy no one I THOUGHT YOU HUNG AROUND HUMANS GOD]

Someone from home?

[He looks confused, maybe a little concerned.]

Is it someone bad?

[He has E rank social skills.

Dezel hesitates. Zaveid had fought them before, many times, but he'd never fought to the brink of killing anyone. Sorey had mentioned, once, that Zaveid saved them on Spiritcrest. Knowing that Zaveid replaced him, too...]

... No, I don't think he'll hurt anyone.

[He draws the brim of his hat down a little more, but doesn't volunteer much else.]

It's complicated.

[Pop.]

[A light fixture near Dezel shatters all of the sudden near Dezel, for no explicable reason to the average person. But a Seraph might detect a spike of malevolence coming from the doorway of the cargo bay. It wasn't strong enough to be a Hellion, but it was strong enough to give away Sora who was standing in the doorway of the cargo bay]

I...

[He hadn't overheard most of the conversation. He had only been stopping by to grab some lunch. But it was hard not to overhear that last part when Dezel had yelled it.]

[Dezel was dead? His friend was dead. How-]

[It didn't make sense. He was right there, how could he be? But did that mean-]

[It can't be. There's gotta be a mistake]

[Right?]

- Sorry. [It's hard to think straight. He know powers went off. They could go off again. He can feel it. He should get away from people until he can calm those down.] I should-

[- go. And he does just that. He turns and runs.]

[Well it's a relief to hear the guy won't hurt anyone. Sora didn't want to see anyone hurt. Not to mention, he'd rather not have to move ships again if he could. He liked the Huntress okay.]

So in other words...you don't like him and wanna avoid him?

[Dezel isn't expecting the surge of malevolence, and he's immediately on edge (again), shifting just in case someone is going to invade and attack-- and then a light bursts. He shields himself and reaches for his pendulums--

-- but that's Sora. That's Sora? Dezel realizes too late what he must have heard. The secret that Dezel hasn't exactly been keeping, but has avoided just in case.]

Sora! [His friend stammers and flees, and Dezel could certainly catch him, but he thinks that would probably be a bad idea.

It's the only good decision he makes this evening.]
