Who: Arya Stark
Broadcast: Shipwide
Action: Planetside, outside the inn she's staying in.

[ the camera comes on and for a moment it's on arya's face before it turns to show the sky, filled with stars. ]

Did you know that stars are made of very hot gas? [ because she didn't. not until the moment she woke up on the ship. arya isn't a little girl anymore, life has changed her, morphed her into something she never was. yet she's not as bitter or jaded, she hasn't had a chance to change that much. but still, the world is a darker place to arya stark. she'd been angry when she first got here, she's still angry but she's done her exploring.

the little girl in her shines through as she turns the camera back to her face and she grins-- ]

Like farts.

[ Kara wasn't going to reply to this girl's broadcast; she didn't know her. However, it just makes her laugh so much. so she sends a message back, laughing. When she regains her composure, she's all grins ]

I think they might be slightly different, but I like the image.

[Jon's out as well, having given up on sleep as a lost cause, because with Ghost licking his face and Arya's pup insisting on going on walks, he's clearly not going to be able to sleep tonight. He finds Arya just outside, and instead of greeting her, just lets the wolf pups go at her.]

I didn't know that. [Excuse him, he's just gonna sit down next to her.] What are you doing out here?

[ Arya's comment is so out of nowhere and unexpected that Theon can't help but laugh. A true laugh, for the first time in a very long while. Thanks, Arya. ]

Is that how Luwin taught it to you?

I doubt that's how he would have taught it to you anyway.

[ It isn't how he learned it, but the stars were never his favorite thing to learn about. If you know enough to sail by them, you know plenty. ]

Where did you learn that, then?

[oh my goodness, Tempest is trying her best not to burst out into laughter]

My, I did not know they were like that.

[someone already told her the gases part, but w/e she is tickled]

What else have you learned about the stars?

I did not know that . . . [this time it's genuine, and her eyebrows furrow] Meteors? I do not think that is a word I have heard before.

Did you know that the sun is a star as well?

How strange . . . do you know why they end up on fire?

[she nods] That is what I was told.

[a small smile] That's alright. It just seems curious, rocks do not burn for very long.

Mm, it is just much larger than the other stars? I think. Someone on my crew was kind enough to explain some things about space to me.

So it would seem. Have you ever seen one?

[her smile widens] Perhaps. It would have to be, for it to do everything it does, yes?

[ She shouldn't laugh. She shouldn't. But the juxtaposition of this girl and a fart joke just make that impossible. Caitlin at least hides her face while she snickers. ]

I think I know a few astrophysicists back home who would enjoy that joke. [ Finally, she moves her hand away, showing her smile. ] There are planets made entirely of gas as well.

[ That isn't even that much of a technical term, whoa. ] An astrophysicist is a scientist who studies the nature of the various heavenly bodies, like stars and galaxies and planets and other things. A lot of what they work with is theoretical, as we've barely scratched the surface of traveling outside our planet.

[ She shakes her head. ] No, not all of them. Planets that people can inhabit, people like you and me, they're made mostly of rock. There's no surface on a gaseous planet, so there would be nowhere to live there.

Yep!

Well, most of them, anyway. But some of the stars out there actually aren't stars at all! Some of them are other planets! Like this one.

[the inn]

[personal profile] kingofbadlifechoices 2016-07-18 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
[He finds her sitting in the same inn he is staying, talking to the communicator about passing gas and stars. When he sees her grin he smiles a little and finally slides into the chair across of her, hands folded in front of him.]

Good morrow, sister.

[The smile on his face becomes a little bit sharper.]

If all the stars were farts space would be really smelly.
