By now those who knew them are aware that James Potter and Remus Lupin are gone. They were friends of mine, well..school mates at least. Alistair Therin is also gone. A lot of people have left us to go home.

So, I suppose what I am looking for is advice. How do you make it easier knowing someone is gone when you thought you would see them everyday? I'm not used to losing friends like this, so thank you for anything you can offer.

Please tell me you are still here, I don't want to lose you too. I need my best friend now more than ever.

In a situation like this, I focus on the fact that they've gone back where they're supposed to be.

That's a good way to see things I suppose. I mean there s a war brewing back home. I just hope they are both alright.

Here? I'm too new. But the place I was before this was similar, and I...did have a couple people go home.

I am sorry for your loss, my lady. The only advice I can give is...grieve. Treat yourself with care and give yourself time to feel better again.

it's a loss for all of us, they were good people, people I cared about and who cared about others.

It will get better. Times softens memories and sharp edges, and the fond things grow to fill the spaces and press back the ache.

That is beautifully said, thank you for such kindness. I don't mean to intrude but it sounds as though you may have some experience with it.

They all left. Cullen left and then a couple of months later, Jove and Elly and Solas all left at the same time.

You have to think about how you're going to see them again one day.

[ Hermione has lost people - a lot of people. Remus was one of them, and it's twice now that she's had to let him go, vials of potion for him going off in her lab. James isn't someone she'd been able to get close to, but.. She had lost Harry, Ron, Ginny, all the people that meant so much to her, and all she had left was hope. ]

You just have to remember that they're going to be waiting for you and they'll be really, really mad if you spent your time being miserable because of them.

I hope I do, well Remus and Potter anyway. I wont see Alistair again. He was from another world and I hope he has all possible happiness there.

Good lord you're right, if Potter knew I had said something like this about him I'd never hear the end of it.

Isn't that something to be happy for, at least? That we got to meet them, despite different worlds? That's pretty amazing.

There you go! Just imagine what James and Remus would say if they saw you moping around. They'd make the most hideous jokes.

[ And that would have a red head dashing down the halls to engineering. She is near tears by the time she arrives, just grateful her friend is still here and she has not lost them all ]

[Tyrion turned as the door bangs open, and then he automatically opens his arms to the near-weeping Lily.] Come here, you. It will be all right.

[Well, that's uncomfortably familiar. She pulls up the video to reply without thinking, but it takes her a moment before she can actually say anything.]

... For a while, my answer was to get drunk. Now, I'd say just... focus on that they might come back. You can see them again- If not here, then after.

You're right of course. Wallowing isn't good for anyone, I simply, I miss them. I thought we were becoming closer here.

... It never gets easier. Take it from experience.

But you've got magic, right? If you can't see them here, even if they're from other worlds... Once you're home, you'll be able to just travel across worlds yourself to meet them again. And that way, this sort of place can't take them away from you again.

That is if I go home, they were here before me, maybe I will get sent home like you say. Do we remember what happened here when we go home?

We will. I refuse to believe I could lose my memories again. As soon as I'm done here, as soon as my home world is back, I'm going to develop a dimensional teleport spell to get to my friends' worlds.

... Until then... I find that talking about them helps.

[She'll be looking around the ship for Lily after this post, offering her a cup of coffee.]

[ She tries to hide her face as she brushes at a stray tear. ]

I'm sorry I don't have any food prepared. I haven't been much in the mood to cook the past few days.

[She closes the distance and nudges the coffee into Lily's hand.]

Then let me. [She reaches up to gently place a hand at the back of Lily's head and briefly touch her forehead to the other woman's. It's a rare sign of affection from Furiosa, here a sign of commiserating; she's lost people, too. She lets go and heads towards the kitchen.] You need to eat.

[Oh hey, it's a... very PINK pony. Her smile's a LOT smaller and more comforting than usual, though.]

I'm sorry. I'm glad that a couple of your friends'll be there when you get back, and hey, Belthazar and Hiro were gone for a couple month but they came back.

[ You are not the first pony she has met, Lily is awfully fond of Cheese. ]

Maybe they will. I don't know the two you mention but if they came back maybe my friends will too. Do you by chance know a pony named Cheese?

[And somehow, Pinkie's able to blush through her fur as this giggle.]

Yes indeedy~ We're from the same world, and we knew each other BEFORE we came here! We're even special someponies now!

It isn't easy. You move on without them. Sometimes they come back.

Does it take long to fell better?

I don't know if it ever goes away, but it's better.

It's taken me a long time to accept.

It is not easy, losing someone here that you were close to. Especially if they are someone you know you will never see again under different circumstances.

I went through something similar. It tears at your heart at first, and it never fully goes away. Missing them.

But, another friend here told me something very important. He said, if the choice is between making relationships, experiencing the joy that can come from that, and completely shutting oneself off... then even despite the pain of loss, the joy of having known and made memories with your friends will always win out.

Sort of cliche, I guess... but it helped me. And I hope it helps you, too.

[Kitty has largely avoided her regular activities like checking the network since her boyfriend went to sleep and hasn't woken up. She doesn't really expect him too. She thinks he'll disappear like others have in her time here after they took their Atroma-induced naps.

She's basically a pro at losing people. Her parents were murdered. So were her students. Then she lost her entire world followed by a prison where people disappeared just as readily as they do here.

She doesn't recognize the woman or the names she drops, but the topic pulls words out.]

You distract yourself. Work. Other friends. Whatever. It's hard and it gets easier little by little. Eventually, it gets good again. And then you lose them too. Rinse and repeat.

[She may not have the most optimistic view at the moment.]

It may not be the same as here, but I've had to leave friends behind. It doesn't diminish what they mean to you, though, and you to them. It helps to think of that, or at least it helps me.

[He shrugs, but his face remains sympathetic.]

Also; puppies help immensely. You're on the First Breath, aren't you? If you've time, you can come down to the cargo hold and meet Ser Drools. I'm sure he'll help take the edge off.
