[ some of you may have noticed that winn has been uncharacteristically quiet for the past...16 days. he's not really sure how to address the elephant in the room - he knows these two weeks and change have been hard on the people he loves but for him it's like no time has passed and the dissonance is hard to bridge.

it's a good thing he has a not at all unhealthy coping mechanism set in place. ]

You know, if we're entertainment on a reality show, the least they can do is give us like a recap - you know your basic [ in a tv announcer impression ] here's what you missed on the Fleet - or - last week, on the young and the Drifting - [ he rubs the back of his head before shaking it ] Well, maybe talking about the 'least they can do' isn't such a great plan...first order of business - what'd I miss? Man, there's no way to start this that isn't awkward. My world kind of got destroyed? So we had to play games to rebuild it.

yeah...a bummer doesn't begin to explain it. god, he hopes he's right and that all of this is nothing more than a virtual reality of some sort - it would make sense, wouldn't it? destroying a planet is doable. rebuilding it? ]

I'm so sorry -- what -- happens now that you're here? Is there someone else from your world back there? [ does that mean she supposedly succeeded, that the game hit pause, that...what? what kind of twisted game is this, leaving people to live with these things hanging over their heads? ]

Yeah, there is someone else from home, just like... a different version of it. Alternate realities, I guess? He knew me, but I didn't know him. Anyways, I'm sure he can fix whatever version he came from. It's cool.

[ he reaches across the space on the couch to lightly pat her hand. see, he's really an optimist. ]

That had to be freaky, did you talk to him much? Ask about alternate you?

[she pauses in surprise for a moment, not expecting the gesture, but she doesn't flinch or pull away.]

As for asking him about me... Not really. That was the thing... Everyone came with only one memory, and we won them back by playing games. It was supposed to act like a blueprint for our world once we had every memory back? But anyways, he hadn't remembered much by the time I came here.

I talked to him pretty often, I guess, but it was just awkward.

Awkward does seem to be the name of the game. [ a pause ] In which case, I now totally get why I'm here.

Yeah, awkward seems like a pretty common trait among people brought here.

I'd say the most common traits I've seen around here are awkwardness, intelligence, and heroism.

Gotta say the intelligence is pretty surprising. I mean, the other two make sense, but you would think that when selecting people for a reality TV show one of their first thoughts would be who could do a bunch of dumb shit that would make viewers feel better about themselves.

Yeah see but smart people can think up way dumber shit to do - and do it in such a greater scale.

Yeah, that's true. Honestly, I'm surprised nothing incredibly awful has happened here for that exact reason. There's been a notable lack of explosions.

Well I can tell you that on the Tourist it's because we all live in fear of Jim's Disappointed Dad lectures.

Dad lectures are all that prevent you blowing things up?

Actually, no, I'm not surprised.

Look he's really good at them.

I'm impervious to dad lectures so I don't think I can appreciate the struggle.

Also, shouldn't there be an impulse to, like, not blow anything up?

There's definitely that but you know, when you're experimenting things can get away from you...

[ okay so the most dangerous project he's got going is the one that gives kara her powers and he's taking every precaution he could think of with it...but still. ]

Uh, is there something I should be concerned about?

Nah, I'm kidding, I'm way too scared of space to blow anything up on a spaceship.

Watched Gravity a few too many times?

Studied a little too much science.

Also fair. Even though I hope it doesn't take knowing a lot about science to realize that blowing things up in space is inadvisable.
