[ some of you may have noticed that winn has been uncharacteristically quiet for the past...16 days. he's not really sure how to address the elephant in the room - he knows these two weeks and change have been hard on the people he loves but for him it's like no time has passed and the dissonance is hard to bridge.

it's a good thing he has a not at all unhealthy coping mechanism set in place. ]

You know, if we're entertainment on a reality show, the least they can do is give us like a recap - you know your basic [ in a tv announcer impression ] here's what you missed on the Fleet - or - last week, on the young and the Drifting - [ he rubs the back of his head before shaking it ] Well, maybe talking about the 'least they can do' isn't such a great plan...first order of business - what'd I miss? [Al laughed nervously and offered a hand to shake.]

It's okay, this...keeps happening to me, the whole starting the conversation in the middle thing. Should've added a name field to the survey - [ winn, you're babbling. ]

Alphonse - my Captain's been telling me I should talk to you, I kept meaning to look you up - clearly, I should listen to him more...don't tell him I said that, it'll go right to his head. Uh, why don't we go have a seat and talk? You want something to drink or anything?

No worries. [Al smiled.] Well, it's not like this topic is easy to bring up to a stranger, too. It's not a subject everyone might be willing to discuss. And sure, I'd like a glass of water, please.

Water, can do. [ he nods with a smile, and starts leading the way to the kitchen. ]

Yeah, so far no one's punched me in the face for trying to discuss stuff - but I'd like to keep that way, you know?

I understand. Honestly, if people hadn't seen the aftermath on camera, I would've been reluctant to discuss it, too. But I feel like I owed everyone an explanation after that.

Sure. Well, where to start... I suppose I should explain a little bit about my alchemy. [Al took out a notebook and sketched a transmutation circle onto it.] Imagine this circle is a blueprint of sorts. The runes written around the outside of it direct the energy toward my transmutation and act as instructions of sorts. Like so... [Al touched the outside of the circle, and the notebook page folded itself into a paper crane.] I could have told this paper to turn into wood pulp, or separated it even further into the wood and ink and water used to make the paper. My attempt to go home involved a much larger circle and much more energy, trying to open a portal to go home.
