[Giving the device another hard look, he passes it back to Charles and drops to his knees to get a look under the communications array.]

What do you think the likely reason is?

[ He hesitates. ]

I think - and I'm guessing - it might be a device to listen onto the communications.

[His movements pause, if only briefly.]

You mean a bug. [This would alarm him more if their entire situation wasn't predicated on being listened to. Why a separate device was needed for that, though, is the bigger question. Wouldn't the ships already be equipped to capture information on their own?]

[ He nods. ]

Yes. I'm not sure what it is meant to do. Beyond . . . what the Atroma have.

You may want to ask the other communications officers, or those with more advanced knowledge than we have.

[ He nods, agreeing. ]

I'll see what I can do.

[Pulling back from under the console, he shakes his head as he sits on his heels.]

Otherwise, I can pull that thing apart. Some of it is magnetic, I can tell that much.

Do you think it should be destroyed?

Yes. [Without pause or preamble.] I also think this entire fleet should be destroyed.

. . . Maybe I'll ask Winter.

So he can give you a different answer? [He gets to his feet, leaning against the console.] It's an unknown device of unknown origins. It should be disposed of. But if you'd rather ask around, that's your call.

He has been here longer. I'm just worried there might be consequences for destroying it.

You're the one who asked me. That's my opinion.

[ He pats Erik's arm. ]

And it's been duly noted.

[He snorts, pulling away to make his way back out of the bridge. If he had been the one to find it first, it would already be in pieces, floating in the void of space.]
