Who: Loki
Broadcast: Video to everyone
Action: Iskaulit
When: Now!
As I have said I would, I shall speak of magics. Or rather the basics of one particular form of magic. Attend well.
[Loki has set up the video in his gym, since it has sufficient space and mirrors.]
What mortals oft times call magic is but science of a higher sort than they have capacity to comprehend. All is but working change upon the ordered laws of the universe with strength of will and an understanding of how and what to manipulate.
Light shall be our example. [Because everyone already knows he can do illusions. This is giving nothing away, really, because knowing the mechanics of what he does won't make it less impressive.]
Light is a substance in constant flux of state. It exists simultaneously in many forms until it is directed one way or another.
[He begins to write equations in the air with light, his handwriting precise and very angular, explaining as he goes. People who are very up in their mathematics and quantum physics will be able to recognize portions describing the wave-particle duality of light, though Loki seems to be describing a great many quantum states beyond that.]
Understanding this, one might manipulate the light that exists in this room to reflect far differently, or refract in new ways.
[He goes through a series of demonstrations, first building a delicate model of a horse from light that runs, then revealing an invisible object and describing mathematically the illusion that allows light to seem to pass through something solid. Then step by step, he builds the room into a section of forest in Alfheim, which seems to stretch on into the misty distance despite the apparent dimensions of the former room.
It's quite a show, but perhaps more interesting is his expression as he works through all of this. He's genuinely enjoying himself, perhaps the most relaxed most people have ever seen him.]
And the mechanism of all of this?
[He smiles remembering the day he had been taught this by Frigga.] We are made of the same stuff as light. We must only remember and become part of it once more.
[And with that, he seems to disintegrate into green and gold miss. The video ends.
But he's around his place in the Iskaulit if anyone wishes to seek him out, or can be called upon for questions. And later? Buy him a drink at Crowley's bar.]

[ Wryly, he adds; ]
I apparently am very obviously an elf, but I suppose it is only polite to return the courtesy.

I wonder how different I am to the elves of your world, and what else might divide them?

And not terribly nice people, I gather.
[ Maglor cocks his head and adds wryly ]
As a bard, I fear I am all too interested in learning tales of other worlds - I think I will let you set the pace on how much to tell, lest I press you too much!
video
[He chuckles dryly.] The dark elves wish to make the universe a more welcoming place to them--and in so doing, return it to endless darkness.
video
So "Dark" in the sense of "Wish for Darkness for the world", I take it? Very unlike our own Moriquendi, who consider such a term to be a great insult, and are not all that different to my folk, excepting that they never set foot in Aman and saw the light of the Two Trees. And what are the elves of Alfheim like?
video
Creatures of sun and the forest. They do not like trespassers overly much, but their scholars are quite interesting in conversation.
video
[ That description gets a soft amused huff ]
They sound more like Hobbits, than Elves!
video
I've no idea what hobbits are.
video
They are a singularly charming people, but one that it seems few have heard of. Hobbits is what they call themselves - and they are a small folk, standing about about half the height of Man or Elf - hence the Westron name "halfling" - and shorter than the dwarves. They love good food and are a highly insular and peaceful folk, who dislike us "Big Folk" and the trouble that they say inevitably follows in our wake.
video
Curious. I've not met their like in my travels.
video
[ A wry smile ]
Hobbits, I begin to think, are unique to my world. Having said that, considering how little they like - or even care! - about Big Folk and our affairs, it is entirely possible that folk have simply... passed them by unknowing. Even in my world they were so.
video
Ah, that is possible. The Nine Realms are rather widely spread. Many forgot about the existence of Midgard for a time, too.

I would not be surprised if some worlds exist in such proximity. For nine to be so close is more unusual.
video
It seems that your earth has much to be grateful to it's neighbours for!
video
One would think so. Long had we sheltered them. But humans are not a lot given to gratitude.
video
They can be - they are swift to forget, are the Children of Men. But they are wise and brave and when loyalty is won, it is long indeed before they will yield it.
