Kitty's birthday : Mingle!

Who: Kitty's friends, anyone Pinkie or Winn would have invited, people who would be on the ship anyway, party crashers, etc. They probably tried to keep it small and then failed hard. Feel free to assume you heard about it.

[Kitty was not expecting a surprise birthday party because while it is the date of her birth, her last birthday was about seven months ago because abductions that can happen from any time make things weird. And then there's also the part where Winn got attacked by Sascha and she and Winn had their first significant fight and things have been on the rough side. Of course, with people like Winn and Pinkie Pie in her life she really should have known better.

So, here we are on The Tourist with dancing in the cargo hold. Winn's phone is playing mustic amplified by Cisco's speakers. There are snacks, beverages, and cake in the kitchen. With Pinkie Pie helping out and some of the stores of food they built up from the time on the hand holding planet you can expect better-than-spacefood quality. And if you need more privacy, Winn opened his room up, but he did include a sign that says no making out complete with a disappointed frowny face, so you would never! Probably.

Enjoy the party! Kitty is turning 20 years and 7 months today? Yeah, there may be another birthday party for her coming up. She's probably doomed to have two per year. Of course you have to get gifts for both!]

I Don't know if I have to, but I'm happy to trust Tyrion and I don't do that so easily anymore. [Many reasons not to and yet she still trusts more easily than she probably should.] I hope he feels the same about me. He's a good man. You'd be lucky to be someone he considers a friend. I know I am. [Tyrion has become very important to her which is clear in the way she speaks of him.]

The lack of dancing might be for the best though. I did mention some of what happened to him. I didn't want him to find out from someone else. [She kept it brief and tried to make some excuses for him, but Winn trends toward jealousy.]

[Even though everyone testaments about how Tyrion’s words are genuine and that he is trustworthy Robb cannot get over his wariness. Especially after knowing of his death he has grown more bitter towards house Lannister.]

We are not friends. [Robb smiles a small apologetic smile.] We agreed on some matters but that is all. I am sure lord Tyrion would not address me as a friend either. There is bad blood between our houses. And the North remembers. [How unfair that might be.]

Any good lover would do so. [Robb nods once.] I take it he was not amused?

Didn't say you were. I'm just saying you could do a lot worse. [Well, she was more flattering about it the first time around.] Life's hard enough to figure out as individuals before bringing houses into it. [As if she'd so easily dismiss something done to her team.]

I don't remember any laughing. [She smiles softly.] He may not be his usual warm and friendly self around you initially. [She could point out that Robb's young but since he's closer in age to Kitty than she is to Winn and he's already kind of sensitive about their age difference she'd rather not be the one to do so.]

[Robb deadpans a little at Kitty’s words.]
It is not that easy, my lady. It is not that the change of place and time changes the things house Lannister has done to us. If it were a simple matter, I might leave it be. But it is not. [Houses are serious business...]

[Well, at the least Robb could say to himself that he did not grab at her teats back then. At the least, he is quite sure of it.]

I will not approach him. [He shakes his head.] There is enough on my mind already.

I'd just rather see people as individuals and not judge them for the mistakes or successes of others. [Not that she wouldn't stand by her own family, but she's known others who were good despite their backgrounds beyond Tyrion.

Like Winn for example and speaking of Winn...]

That's fair. [But she hopes if they do run into each other that it goes okay. She doesn't expect it, but she can still hope, right?]

The I... [A sigh.] Lord Tyrion is not the worst of them all. His father and siblings are far worse. And I am not even mentioning his nephew. [Because Joffrey, the sheer thought about the tall boy with the golden curls makes Robb’s jimmies rustle.] It is easier said than done.

[And the North remembers...]

I cannot guarantee that we will remain strangers forever. We might just bump into one another one day.

[But he won’t make a fuss. Everything has been quite embarrassing to begin with.]

He's warned me about his nephew. Well, one of them he said was horrible and the other sweet. [She assumes Tyrion and Robb agree on the terrible one.]

It's a small fleet. Bound to happen. [Though she's been around a long time and there are still some people she doesn't know who have been here even longer than her.]

I remember Tommen as a plump boy who could not handle a sword. And Myrcella... [Somewhat of a smile appears around his lips.] She was only eight years of age. Her father japed about marrying her off to me. But we were children and I remember she had the potential to grow quite beautiful.

[He shrugs.]

Beautiful or not, I would never want to marry a Lannister. They have no place in the North.

[Still, his wife belonged to a house sworn to Castle Rock. Not a Lannister, but definitely supportive of them. It has not been easy to warm his good family up to him or what is left of house Stark. While the siblings seemed to become good friends, their parents were still reserved. Especially the mother.]

I think so too. We will see.

I can't imagine someone else choosing my husband for me. Not that I make the best choices sometimes, but at least they're mine to make.

[Nodding at the thought of he and Winn meeting.]

Yes. It should be fine. You're both good people. [Oh, so innocent, Kitty. She assumes it will be awkward, but easily enough dealt with.]

[Even though that is a very normal thing in Westeros, Robb understands what Kitty means. Having an own choice is so important. It is such a liberating thing.]

To marry Jeyne has been my choice as well. [He smiles broadly.] Many told me it has not be wise. [And it wasn’t, it really wasn’t.] I have learned the value of that. Having a say when it comes to finding someone you love. [Finally he snorts.] It must sound awfully outdated compared to your modern world.

[He smiles a warm smile at those words and reaches out to squeeze her shoulder.]

I am sure we are able to sort this out.

Honestly? Sometimes. But I'm also getting used to people being from very different worlds. There are times you seem like you're from our distant past, but then I remember dragons are real there and I realize that's not the only difference. I try to remember how jarring our modern world must be to you too. [And she thinks he's already come a long way since she met him.

She reaches up and pats his hand.] I'm holding you to that. [Said warmly without threat.] Thanks for coming to this.

Dragons have died with the Targaryen dynasty. [Well, almost.] I know the lady Danaerys claimed to have them, yet I have not seen them. [He cocks his head to the side for a bit.] Your past is the same? Is there a Westeros in your past? [Because as far as he knows there is a place called Earth. And on Earth there are some places called America.] It is difficult to adjust, I must say. I do not get everything properly.

[Normally he would not admit to that. Robb Stark isn’t the type who would admit to not getting something. But this wasn’t Westeros and he should forget about him being a king once.]

It is my pleasure. [He nods deeply as he says that.]

Tyrion saw a dragon. Danaerys was telling me about them too. [She believes. She also shakes his head at the questions.]

There's no Westeros that I know of and not the same past, but there are some similarities from what I've heard. [But it's so easy to fill in the gaps of a story someone tells you with things you know. So she could easily have painted it more similar in her mind too.]

I know. She has told me of them. [It would be quite awesome if she would enter Westeros flying on the back of one of her dragons to burn those wretched Lannisters out of the Red Keep.] But I have never seen them.

[He nods. That makes sense because Westeros wasn't located on a place called Earth. Would it mean that Westeros was an entire planet? Or were there more realms beyond Essos?]

Like what?

You really are a seeing is believing kind of guy, huh? [Actually, she doesn't mind that. It makes sense to her. It's only her trust in Tyrion and the lack of downside in believing him about dragons that makes her feel certain in it. Well, and wanting to believe it. It's fun.]

Oh, I don't know. Lack of electricity. Fighting with swords instead of guns. [Not that swords have gone out of favor in her world. Having monarchies. [Ha..ha...sob. Well, Apocalypse was more of a dictator.]

[Robb nods slowly.]

There have been so many stories. Of the dead living behind the Wall, dragons in Essos, king Stannis’ sorceress. If I had to pay attention to all these stories...I have no time for that.

Dragons would be rather...cool to encounter.

[Because the stories about the Targaryen princes and princesses riding their dragons had been his favorite when he was young. Such fierceness and heraldry.]

Knights as well? Castles and holdfasts? Do the modern realms function without a king? Or do they have Wardens?

[She smiles with amusement.] Who taught you to say cool? Was it me?

I agree. I realize in practice it could be a devastating thing, but I still want in. [She can take care of herself. It would be worse if someone else were attacked. But she'd also like to believe in dragons with self control as long as no one is attacking them while she's at it. Her own people are misunderstood after all.]

And, yes, we used to have knights, castles...I don't actually know what a holdfast is so I'm going with maybe on that. Modern times before things...got messy sometimes had kings. In my part of the world it was elected officials called presidents. The people would vote for their leader. But it wasn't consistent in every country.

It was my brother...Bran. [He smiles.] But you have taught me other modern rituals.

[The smile turns into a boyish grin.]

They used to ride the dragons. Tame them and ride them. I hope...if the lady Daenerys has dragons, she will enter Westeros riding one.

A holdfast is too small to be castle but large enough to not be a farm. They mostly are buildings built to guard a road or just a part of a lord's land. At times the younger brothers of a lord go to live in them.

The people choose their leader? [It is not a strange concept. They chose him to be their king as well.] And they call them presidents. Can't they be kings? Or isn't it a title that passes from father to son?

I'm glad I've made an impact.

You know, it would be a shame that if she did ride in like that there'd be no cameras to take a picture. [She smiles at the thought even though the reality could be devastating.]

It would be harder to choose your leader if it was automatically the son. A son could always run for office later or a daughter. Or anyone.

Heh, of course you have.

Hmn, hmn...but bards can write songs. And painters can paint. And stories can be told. [He smiles a sad sort of smile.] Mayhaps, years later a possible survivor of my house will tell those stories to their children.

It is rare for women to lead. Not that is cannot happen. At times a lord has no other heirs but a daughter. But electing a leader seems fairer than a crown going from father to son. Not every man is fit to rule.

Seems like a good way to get exaggerated stories, but it's something. [And modern ways don't always stop exaggerated stories.]

Sadly, not everyone elected is fit to rule either and men still dominate the positions, but it was getting better. Until it wasn't. [But it's her birthday and she doesn't want to go into all of that.] Hey, I see a few new arrivals I should greet. Get some cake. Mingle.

[Her words make him realize he is taken enough of her time already and for some reason their conversations always take a turn for the serious when they speak.

A birthday is a bad moment for that.]

Of course! [He takes a step back and bows a little, smiling afterwards.] Let us talk such matters at another time. Have a good name day.

[She doesn't mind that much. She likes real conversation over small talk and sadly, what's real often dips toward somber and serious given the life she's led and all the more so given Robb's life.] Anytime. [She smiles back at him.] Thanks. You enjoy it too!
