Ow, for futz sake -- [ the feed is shaky, at first -- as though the device and its owner has just fallen from some middling height. but it soon settles steady on an image of kate bishop -- bruised, dirty, but ultimately fine. although she's stubbornly wearing purples more often alligned with the spirit faction, she has alligned herself quite naturally with moxie -- deigning to at least braid white and gold ribbons into her black hair. sitting up on the poorly terra-formed ground, the feed reveals she's dressed in a superbly tailored hawkeye costume made from strong fabrics and flattering lines.

over her shoulder looms lavandula's tower. the intrepid young avenger followed the trills of a mysterious and now finds she herself thoroughtly defeated by the tower's bizarre internal architecture. this isn't the first time she's taken a tumble.

grumpily: ] This place is worse than a funhouse. [ ... ] Paging any and all Fleet folk -- anyone manage to track down this freaky-deaky flute music on Lavandula? All I'm finding are doors shut in my face. Not loving it.

[ LATER, she's back at the rehabilitation centre. she pays her modest fee and gets herself patched up -- bandages and all. so, once she takes a shuttle back to the iskaulit and shows up for work at málum, she's still looking a little worse for wear. take pity on her, málum patrons, because her usual bartender flair is suddenly subdued: she's got one arm in a sling. she'll still serve you, though. and with a smile! ...probably. ]

You know you don't have to come in like that. Or better yet, I know someone you could see to get it fixed up.

[Kate and Adalwolfe have overlapping shifts today, Wolfe much more upbeat than he was last month, and all to do with Anders waking up. He's been a giant goober about it, honestly, even humming and whistling at intervals when he cleans or pours drinks.]

Anders is a healer you know. And I could get the bruises and scrapes for you; my healing is good enough for that at least.

[ -- watch with awe and amazement as she grips a wine bottle with her good arm and works the cork free with her teeth. determination at work, ladies and gents! ]

Pshaw, [ she scoffs around the stopped stuck between her teeth, ] these aren't bruises and scrapes. These are badges.

[ she's teasing. mostly. kate's never had the healing factor boasted by many of her teammates -- so she doesn't always play well with the prospect of 'healing magic'. even so, she appreciates the offer. ]

What did you even do to break your arm?

[He accepts her good-natured rejection of healing. She's already been patched up and in no danger, and he's well aware of some people's distrust of magic or even the idea of getting too used to magical healing and not being able to naturally heal as well without it. He's a little dubious about that one, but he's not a Circle mage and so he doesn't have all of the same book learning as other mages do.

He reaches over for the bottle and pours the glasses as intended.]

Must have been some fight.

Not really. Not unless you call a tussle with some rock-hard ground a fight. [ and luckily the arm's just a bad sprain -- not that she hasn't dealt with broken bones in the past.

could be worse. she could be like clint, prone to six-week stays in the hospital. ]

I was down on that meditation moon. There's, like, this spooky tower? Just outside the settlement borders?

So you decided to explore it?

[No judgement. He probably would have done the same if he was at all interested in the meditation moon. He's not since he's not so much the type to sit in quiet reflection and contemplation, or... he wasn't until Kate brought up the much more exciting prospect of a haunted tower.]

What did you find out? Other than how hard the ground is.

The doors don't like to be opened. There are holes in the floor. Honestly, I'm starting to wonder if the flute music's even real.

Flute music?

[He pauses a moment in cleaning the glass in his hands, then looks at her with mock seriousness.]

It could be haunted.

I used to not believe in that sorta thing but -- sure. I guess. [ she shrugs. ] That's how I found the tower. I followed music.

[ huff. ] Damn, I wanna get back out there. I don't like a mystery going unsolved.

I could go with you, if you want. But you should probably either let yourself heal or get healed up first. No use going through all that again already injured.

[A haunted tower does sound like a fun jaunt. Maybe he should ask Anders along.]

We could even bring a healer along, make it almost a full party.

Is that usually a necessity? My team never had a healer on it.

I find it helps.

[Since he usually gets himself into all kinds of mortal danger.]

Don't you wish you'd had one when you went there in the first place?

Maybe. If I got, like, seriously hurt.

Well he also might just be interested.

Oh! So you've got a particular healer in mind, then.

I, uhh, well...

[He sets the glass down and picks up another one, smiling a little in that way people do when they're overwhelmingly happy and don't want to rub it in their company's face.]

Anders woke up a little while ago.

[Which she probably knows since Adalwolfe actually came back to work, but still.]

I figured, sure -- I just...you didn't say and I wasn't thinking you'd want to go dragging him into field. Considering.

[ kate manages to find her smile, too. ] I'm glad, though. Maybe we should all go out. Blow the dust off of him.

I drag him out on all my adventures. He's used to it by now.

[But he does seem pleased at Kate agreeing to bring Anders with them.]

When do you want to go? I'll have to ask him after work.

I should only need a couple days to rest up. Hard to shoot a bow with a dislocated shoulder. [ ... ] Not that it's still dislocated, of course. Just...tender.

[He looks at her dubiously.]

Are you sure you don't need legitimate healing?

He'll be with us, right? [ ... ] So if I start to be a burden on the party, I'll give in and get healing. Until then? I'm good.

Alright, alright, I won't push.

[He doesn't know what she has against healing, but far be it from him to force magic on anyone. Doesn't let on that her hesitance makes him at all uncomfortable, even though it does. It feels familiar, that fear of magic, even helpful magic.

Luckily he's interrupted before the silence gets awkward by the raise of a hand over at one of the tables, holding a glass for a refill.]

You wanna get table 3 or should I?

I got it. [ maybe she needs to show off -- because maybe she's feeling a little weird about the arm. but kate uses her good arm to vault over the bar's counter. ] What'd they have? Beer?

[The move makes him chuckle, and actually assuages a bit of the knot he'd worried into existence over Kate maybe being afraid of him because of his abilities.]

Yeah, the light one on tap.

[He's not an aficionado. He mostly refers to their tapped beers as 'the light one,' 'the dark one,' and 'the kind of sweet one.']

The honey oat whatever. [ a sly wink. ] Right.

[ she fills a fresh pint glass -- and then gets back to work. ]
