Captain's Log 04 - Waking Dreams

_{[ It's a strange feeling, waking up and staring at a ceiling that he instinctively knows is on a ship. He hasn't looked at one of those in awhile, mostly because his ship was still being built. He had been able to tour some parts of her, but she was far from complete, and certainly nowhere near ready for him to move into. So why? Why was there something familiar about this ceiling? He had seen it before, he was sure, nagging at the back of his mind -

The Fleet.

It struck him like a slap, making him gasp, and he sat up sharply, looking down at himself, wrapped in his survival suit of all things. He touched the raised silver crest of Star Fleet, trying to wrap his mind around the notion he was back on the Tourist. How long had it been? Almost three years? He had just celebrated his birthday, so, yes, three years...

Looking around he located the communicator, flipping it open, remembering the motions easily enough as he keyed up the video and looked in. It's to late by the time he realizes that he has a crown settled into his somewhat fluffier hair and a bright red lipstick mark on his cheek. Who-? Well, whatever, everyone will just get to see him attempt to rub the lipstick off as he speaks, crown, for the moment, remaining where it was. ]}

Uh - hello everyone. I'm not sure how much time as passed here, so I suppose I should start with introductions. My name is Captain James Tiberius Kirk, U.S.S. Enterprise, though feel free to call me Jim. I was here once before, but I suppose at some point I got sent home.

It's been three years for me. So, if possible, I wouldn't mind a roll call of who all is here - and exactly how much time has passed for you all.

Kirk, out.

_{[ He turns off the communicator and gets up slowly, stretching, making his way for the kitchen and wondering if that cantankerous coffee machine was still here and functioning, and if it had been tamed. He hoped so. He desperately needed coffee. Maybe something more too. Yes, definitely something more.

Irish coffee it was Or as close as he could get it. ]}

[ Had it come to pass already? Leto briefly looks into the timeline - ah. He had expected it later. Or earlier. ]

Three busy years, I imagine.

[ winn's heart skips a beat when he gets a ping from the equipment he left monitoring jim - flipping his communicator on, it skips another when he sees his face, hears his voice. jim's awake! he's already halfway to his room before the content of his broadcast begins to catch up with him, but he doesn't care, not right now. all he has room for is the need to see that jim is ok with his own two eyes.

knocking quickly before letting himself in anyway, sorry if you wanted privacy there, but someone is proving to be less little brother and more excitable puppy whose owners got home today, and it's all he can do not to throw himself into jim's arms. ]

You're awake!

[ is it possible for him to smile any wider? sure doesn't look like it. ] D'you remember me? [ he asks, as he already moves to check what the monitors display - seems like all his vitals are within the normal range beverly taught him to look for. ]

_{[ Leto was here. Good. It was a strange thought, perhaps, but it meant that Leto hadn't gone off to whatever dark fate he thought he was destined for. And he liked seeing a familiar face. ]

You could say that. The last one got a bit bumpy, to be honest.}

But at least you had good beats.

[ He shrugs, a little more gentle, his eyes softening. Remembering was always difficult. Bucky had always felt the brunt of it. ]

How do you feel?

_{[ Winn. He manages to recognize him before his arms are full of the other and he grunts at the impact. Three years and it didn't feel like Winn had changed at all, or looked like it. Memories that had felt fuzzy became crystal sharp, his arms tightening around the other man. ]}

Please, as if I could forget you.

_{[ There's a flicker of something in his eyes, because that was... an interesting choice of words. He recalls Leto's ability, the one to see the future, and he cannot help but feel a touch unnerved even though he knows Leto cannot control it. There's a flash of anger too. Had he seen what would come? Had he seen and said nothing and Kirk had lost crew and his home because of it?

No, that wasn't fair, Kirk. Not fair at all. ]}

Like I've been sleeping on some very unfluffed pillows for a long time.

_{[ He cracked his neck. ]}

How long has it been, Leto?

By the reckoning of the Fleet? A few days, I believe.

[ His lips curve, in wry humour. ] Too long for others, I imagine.

[ after a month that has been nothing but constant pain and misery and cheap shots, for the first time - winn feels well and truly happy. he holds him tightly but carefully. ]

You've been in a coma here, 8 days. [ 8 of the longest days of his life. ] How do you feel? We should get you checked out -

[Hey look who has the hang of this now. Finwe is concerned as he hadn't seen Kirk in awhile but his grandsons have required a great deal of his attention lately. So Kirk gets a warm, concerned smile as Finwe turned on the video.]

I am so relieved to see you well once more, Captain. [He's confused by the mention of three years passing, frowning thoughtfully.] Only two weeks have passed here, I believe. Do you need anything?

[He's already parenting to come over, just in case.]

_{[ Kirk frowned softly, stepping back from him. ]}

That's it? Only eight days?

_{[ It was hard to rationalize, when he had been far, far away for three years. It was suddenly hard to compress those memories and make them fit this span too, and he shook his head, rubbing his temple with one hand absently. ]}

Is Beverly around? She can do it - check me over, that is. But I'm sure I'm fine. Bones checked me over not that long ago.

_{[ He turned a wry look on Winn. ]}

More importantly, have you actually slept in eight days?

_{[ Kirk has a harder time drawing up who this was right away. He had not known him long, after all, but he did recall him. Hard to forget someone who looked like that, and he placed him with the others he knew who did. Fin - something. ]}

Only two weeks? Guess that means I didn't miss much, huh? Have we moved systems yet?

_{[ He twisted his head, cracking his neck. ]}

A massage - or maybe a good run. I feel like my body has definitely been in a bed for that long.

_{[ Ah, yes, he remembers these conversations. Leto did so seem to enjoy being mysterious, though that didn't really help him right now. ]}

Oh? And how long has it seemed for you?

If you're fishing for appreciation, you could be more subtle.

But I did miss you. If it helps.

They seemed pretty long from this end.

[ he's really missed you, jim. ]

Yeah - yeah, actually she just got back the other day herself, we can give her a call. I've been monitoring you though so if you don't feel off I think you should be fine -

[ but he's not taking any chances. he shakes his head with a sheepish smile - yeah, jim's back alright. ]

I'm coherent, aren't I? [ so yes, he's slept the bare minimum he's had to. ] Are you hungry? Or thirsty, when I woke up I was parched - [ he picks up water bottle he's kept by jim's side in case he was too far away to fetch it for him when he woke up and hands it over. ]

We haven't. Perhaps a nice walk then? I was going to venture down to the planet to get some things for my grandson and you are welcome to join me.

[He had never slept like mortals tended to but he could only imagine how Kirk must feel after being still so long.]

A lot can happen in three years.

Jim. [There was a warm tone to the use of Kirk's name, followed up with an equally warm smile from Remy across the video link. It hadn't been that long but he was still very glad to see his friend back in the land of the living, enough that he was making his way to the transports so he could head up to the Tourist. Remy had registered the three years (three years!) in Kirk's announcement, but he was in too good a mood to see him that he didn't take the time to think about how long it would had been for him and everything he had gone through. Not just yet at least.] Good to see ya up 'nd 'bout.

_{[ Ah, that voice he had not forgotten - especially since he had heard
it quite a few times in his ear on more intimate occasions. He smiled into
the feed, looking rumpled and tired, but no worse for wear. ]}

Feels good, though I think I might need one of your massages. I have one hell of a sore neck.

[Ah ... well damn, ser. That was quite a shift. Jim even looked older about the edges. Tyrion rubbed his beard and stated simply.]

It has only been a few weeks for us, Jim.

Three years?

[But surely someone would have mentioned he'd gone missing? It definitely has not been three years here.]

I-I am sorry you've returned then, having been able to go back home, but welcome you back all the same.

[He hasn't talked to him since he went down himself. They'd missed each other, apparently, but Kirk looked better coming from his three years than Anders had after his ten.]

I was gone for ten years, but apparently, it was only a week here. Funny how that goes, hmm?

How are you feeling, Jim? Are you okay?

[He was, after all, a healer first and foremost.]

[Fenris is in the kitchen, having decided to remain on the ship for the most part while Kirk was out. Not that he's really DONE anything while in command. No, no thank you.

He glances up as Kirk enters and the relief is evident in him. ]

Good. You're awake.

Not surprisin', ya were doin' ya best 'mpression of sleepin' beauty there. Tried kissin' ya awake, didn't seem to work. [A touch of a smirk joined his smile.] 'm headin' my way over to ya as we speak, once I grab a shuttle.

Oh, was that your doing? Next time be sure to use my shade of red, won't you?

_{[ He's taking it in good stride, falling easily into their old
patterns. It felt good, even if it had been only two weeks for Remy and
three years for himself. ]}

Heh, well, door is always open to you. I'm going to get myself some coffee first. Want a cup?
