[This city make Fenris uneasy- he knows he's not the only one, not by a long shot. Anything abandoned that quickly has to have something unfortunate underlying it all. The fact that everything resets itself is only more cause for concern. Is it some kind of time loop? Were he in Exsilium, that would have been his first thought.

He can be found on the days while they're here, wandering around the system tense- muscles coiled and ready for a fight at every turn. He doesn't indulge in the free offerings, and gives heavy glares to anyone who does so in his presence. He avoids the movie theatre and carnival on principle, but he might be tempted over there, if the right person were to ask.
]

[Fenris can't remember the last time he actually made a post on the network. It's not something he tends to do, he rarely uses the blighted thing at all, if he can help it. He's never been one for drawing too much attention to himself.]

Has anyone else observed the changeover yet? I attempted it last night, but it went by far too quickly.

[And that's it, no hello, no goodbye. Brief and to the point as always.]

When: Tonight!

It's Wintersend! (Or roughly around the equivalent of when it would be back in Thedas. [Actually it's a bit late but whatever CLOSE ENOUGH]) Time to party! Riona found a small party hall to rent on Duotera, in an area that's a bit more reminiscent of early spring.

There are decorations everywhere. Don't worry guys, this isn't meant to be formal. This is just what happens when Riona gets to decorate unsupervised.

There are, of course, plenty of food and drinks. The food is mostly finger snacks, but there are also sandwiches and the like. As for the drinks: yes, they are mostly alcoholic, she knows how you folks roll.

As Wintersend is theater season, Riona compromises for the lack of actual theater with a rigged projector playing movies on the far wall. With a variety of genres running, there'll hopefully be something for everyone, and serves as a place for the more introverted to get away from the party for a bit.

And because it's Wintersend, that means presents. There's a separate table off to the side away from the food where people can place their presents for each other.

The goal is to have something for everyone, and to encourage everyone to have fun. Eat, drink, be merry and all that jazz!

((OOC: Separate starters for food table, present table, etc will be below!))

When: Now! ... Also, he has a truth-blabbering glitch for this post. Have fun.

Hello, everyone! Business as usual, I suppose!

[He puts on his glasses, adjusting them to scribble some notes on a pad of paper.]

For anyone who is unaware, The Melting Pot has near-constant openings for chefs or waiters, so do let me know if you're interested in joining the community there. I'll be working on restocking our supplies here at the latest location, so if there is anything in particular you're pining for, fear not, I'll have it back in the pantry. It's particularly important for me to keep myself occupied from the godawful nightmares I have of doom and destruction, or from the fact that I feel rather helpless and entirely inadequate sometimes.

[Wait, what? He doesn't seem to have noticed that rather revealing yet somehow stupidly jovial commentary, though. He just keeps scribbling away in his notepad. Dotting those i's, and whatnot. He clears his throat.]

Please let me know if there's any food you'd like added to the menu, also! We could do with more selections.

[A pause.]

Another point; our dear friend, Matt Murdock, had something important to share with me before he vanished from the fleet, a short time back. He has particularly honed super-senses you see, especially with regard to hearing — what with being blind — and had informed me that there are no sounds of camerawork in any of the ships. It does make me wonder how they know what we're doing, if they indeed know what we're doing. Or if they're actually broadcasting anything at all. Anyway, knowing that he hadn't the chance to point this out, I figured I would do him the courtesy.

... With that in mind — please let me know if I should be hiding in a ship bunker at any point, because I'm particularly sick of all this chaos we seem to fly right into. I have a terrible feeling, is all... though the strange snowy marshmallow planet was a delight, truly. I suppose I feel inadequately prepared next to some of the people from my world. And other worlds. All worlds, really. It's why I spend so much on augment enhancements, so I can keep up properly.

... Ah. What was I talking about, again?

[He scratches his head with the end of his pen.]

Sorry, I lost my train of thought. Pardon me. What's a decent conclusion here...?

.... Oh! Valentine's Day is coming up. Have I really been here a year...? Well! I won't be getting drunk this time.

But I'll still be baking everyone sweets, if they'd like.

So if anyone would like to join me, I'm going to take one of the shuttles and do a small spin around the binary stars and get a look at them. Nothing dangerous, but a binary star system with three habitable worlds - admittedly two of them with narrow zones, but still - is incredibly rare and I want to take this opportunity to get as much data as we can.

So yeah, I'll be going out periodically, and I would love company, if anyone wants to come along. You will have to put up with me dropping into a lot of science geekery. And that's a warning, not an apology.

Life. It's been a hard life. And sometimes that catches up with him, so hooray alcohol and existential 2am thoughts.]

But, right, so, some people in the fleet are from earlier that other people in the fleet from the same versh.. version of the same world, right? So then would them changing someone when they get back - or if I guess 'cause who knows - would them changing a big thing then change that thing for the people here from later there? If say... Idunno, I was from before all the stuff and decided not to go to Kirkwall, would other stuff have happened instead of my stuff? Would that change all the... the stuff?

[Maker he needs Varric or Carver to translate his drunkspeech. He's not so far gone that he can't tell he's making the least amount of sense.]

Or if-if... I dunno if I should say that nevermind, but you all get my point, right? Is it set in stone? Or is it like... all these different Thedaseses that everyone is from, they just get made when something else changed so it still happened but the other thing happened too, somehow? Uh.

[He frowns into his mug. These are very murky, complicated thoughts. Clearly he needs to wash them off with more alcohol.]

One of the strange things about being in a new reality, I've come to realize, comes down to grasping social norms. They aren't the exact same here as they were on Thedas, and each one of us brings our own world with us when we interact with one another. My 'I think you're gorgeous and funny and would love to get you know better' might be read as your 'I'm only thinking about your body.'

It's hard enough navigating the subtlety there without adding to the mix different a world's views on sex and relationships.

That means research and asking questions. Or at least it does if you're me, I suppose.

I explain all of that simply so you understand how it is that recently I discovered a concept called 'pick up lines.' From what I've learned, they are terrible and awkward. Of course this means that I adore them.

Hit me with your best shot, friends. Give me your favorite pick up lines. I need to hear them all.

Action: On the Tourist at First and Later on the Iskaulit
When: Jan 4 - Kirk's 32nd Birthday

[ Video ]
[ The transmission has a soundtrack this time - the dulcet tones of The Beastie Boys' Sabotage. A personal favorite of his, evidenced by his head gently bobbing to the 'beats and the shouting' as Jaylah had so fondly referred to it as. Hard to believe that had been years ago now. ]

You know, there are times that I believe that Atroma knows way, way more about us than we think it does. That the whys of ripping us out of our times and our worlds is a lot more purposeful than we might think.

This, for instance.

[ He goes quiet and makes a motion with his hand to indicate the beats and the shouting, or to Kirk, the classical piece playing. ]

I got this as what I can only assume is a combination Christmas and birthday gift. It's nothing but Sabotage remixes. Which, coincidentally, is probably one of the most significant songs in my life. Crashed my first car to the song - which, not surprisingly, lead to my first misdemeanor. I would sing this at the karaoke bars in college, even a bit during Star Fleet Academy on our nights off. And this song helped save the Federation, possibly the universe - also, coincidentally, on my birthday.

[ He goes quiet for a minute, just seeming to listen to the song, though his eyes seem far away. ]

Anyways, if anyone would like to borrow it or get a copy, drop me a line. I'm always happy to share the classics from my world. It really is a great song. Hopefully next time I get a full album and not just the top twenty remixes - though I question the one that uses a piano. I don't recommend that version.

[ A soft sigh and then quieter than before - ]

Two years and thirty-two, huh?

[ End transmission. ]

[ Action - Tourist + Iskaulit/Malum ]
[ His offer made, Kirk would spend a bit more on the Tourist listening to the songs, going down to the freight hangar to blast the music, and probably do a little bit of a workout while he did it. It was the sort of music that made you want to move, after all. He would stop between sets to flip through data on a pad, sometimes making notes, and then going back to his exercise with music that vibrated his bones.

Thankfully he has left the music behind when he goes to the Malum, because, well, it is his birthday, and he has a tradition on his birthday - a good solid drink. Normally he would share it with Bones, get chided about calling his mother, and then they would toast. That was it. No sense in changing the routine now, though he would have to do it without Bones. He thought about inviting Chekov, but, well, he didn't want to bother the other man.

So he could be found later at the Malum, in his reserved seat because even on his birthday he was the official honeypot, sipping something good and from the top shelf. He didn't use his birthday for anything, except a good drink and could you blame him? ]

The gifts Atroma delivered to us seem thoughtful enough, considering, but I find myself in need of some help with mine. I thought I could perhaps figure it out myself, but it hasn't worked out so far.

I know the terms are familiar to those from Thedas, but just in case they're familiar to anyone else: I'd like to speak to anyone who knows about 'Arcane Warriors' and 'Knight Enchanters.' I need help applying my knowledge of one to the other.

To anyone else, I'm in need of a sparring partner. Anyone skilled with a blade willing to help out would be welcome. Thank you.

The first one has the title The Dasher's Men and the last declares itself The Inquisitor Lavellan Story. The only thing stopping this from being a complete collection is the missing copy of Tale of the Champion.]

The nearly complete works of one Varric Tethras. I even have the newest part to Swords and Shields for those of us who like silly romances.

[He smiles in a way that hints he's remembering something fondly.]

I am of course willing to let others borrow them, provided they're treated well. Each one is signed by the author to me and I like having a reminder of home.

[Even more so when the reminder is that somewhere out there his friends actually know him. After a moment, he addresses his shipmates,]

Thank you for everyone on the Wonderduck who helped me get them to my room. They turned out to be rather heavy. Someone needs to tell Varric to write shorter books...

Riona and Anders look a bit excited, and quite pleased. She glances over her shoulder briefly at someone, but her head still blocks most of the shot. When she turns back, she’s grinning.]

Ladies and gentlemen of the fleet, there’s someone we’d like you to meet. Or, maybe reintroduce for some of you.

[Anders steps aside, giving a grand wave to the person behind them and finally revealing him their captive audience.

It’s an unfamiliar and very attractive man with swept back hair and piercing blue eyes. (The shade of which may be familiar to anyone who might have known Anders back when he had a glowing problem.) The man in question has a seemingly perpetual frown on his face, standing stiffly without actually moving. He’s so still that it’s almost like he’s not breathing. (And those who know him, even if they don’t recognize him, might pick up on the note of vague confusion in the furrow of his brow. He does not know why this has become such a production, but it’s past the point when it’s worth the effort to restrain his friends.)

Anders’ grin could light up a room. It’s clear the two Wardens are very pleased with themselves.]

Please give a warm welcome to Justice: new and improved. For those of you who know him, Riona and I decided it was time for a bit of a makeover; something to improve over ‘dead and decaying.’ Those of you that might not have met him yet, you should! He’s really very nice.

[And now a 100% more approachable.

Justice, for his part, glances at Anders with slightly narrowed eyes. Anders, are you trying to make friends for him? He’s pretty sure you’re trying to make friends for him. Oh well. He dips his head towards the camera, and when he speaks, it’s the same deep rumble as before.]
Greetings. If you did not know what to call me prior, I was the spirit who appeared to be dead.

[Riona nods, and wryly adds:] You may remember him as looking like a walking corpse who doesn't blink. We didn't want people to be putoff by his appearance anymore. Hard to get to know people and mingle with mortals when everyone thinks you're an undead shambler.

And here I thought I'd never be so happy to see the cold stretch of space, but I prefer it to the cannibals. So here we are. [It's only a part of why she's so happy, but that's not for this post.] A concern I had back there - amongst many others - was the well being of those here in the fleet who do not know how to fight or are unable to. Many have offered lessons in the past, but I am not sure if those people are still here and if lessons are still being offered. If people are, please let us know here. Rather than having to scour the network, people can just go to this post to find out.

That being said, I'm willing to offer lessons to those interested. I strongly recommend people know a means of fighting. Using the guns the armories provide is all well and good, but if you can't access one or lose it, or if a fight turns to close quarters, having a means to fight back can mean the difference between life and death. I can offer lessons in basic hand to hand. And also in sword fighting, which I'm a fair bit more proficient at. I'd need to acquire training swords. Preferably wooden ones, but blunted metal blades would work, too.

Probably would hold them on the Iskaulit, in the black box theater. Place isn't seeing much use. And if people want to just come by and watch how a lesson goes, there's seating in there.

For those of you who might not know, I come from a world called Earth - or at least, one of the versions represented here. On my world, in the country I hail from, we celebrate something known as Thanksgiving roughly around this time of year if I've done my calculations correct. Some people call it Friendsgiving, but it's all the same really.

Essentially, it's a time to a give thanks for the good things in your life, your friends, and your family. In the spirit of that, I've arranged for a gathering at the Melting Pot - a thank you to Jarvis for that. Everyone who wishes to come is welcome.

I just thought we all could use a day, a place, to be together and to just enjoy each other. So I hope to see you there.

Action: The Melting Pot
[ The restaurant is set up to allow as much mingling as possible when people arrive - places to sit, of course, but there's gentle music playing for those who might want to dance and just to give some atmosphere (but not loud enough to stop conversation at all). Food and drink is laid out - things to nibble on rather than the usual feasts associated with a Thanksgiving. Not particularly ideal, but it's what could be managed. Unless, of course, anyone decided to bring something else to add to the spread.

Not a fancy party, to be sure, but it's warm and inviting, which is what Kirk had hoped for. A place for them all to come together and enjoy each other and just be glad they were all there and if not quite completely whole, then, well, able to be there. ]

And The Tourist will, of course, continue to have its routine offered breakfasts and dinners...! He's not one to give in on his usual duties just because something's dampening his spirits.

One morning, he finds a crate in the Tourist's cargo bay, and dreads the fact that his name is written on the shipping label. The last time he'd actually opened one of these, it had been... flamingos. Plastic flamingos that inadvertently turned into a galactic fashion statement. He will not make the same mistake again...!!! I don't know if you've noticed, but...!! There's a rather large box here for me in the cargo bay. When have these ever been a good thing, I implore you to inform me? I've learned quite a number of things through life here. One -- don't fiddle with your augment implant. Two -- people can apparently survive being asleep for ungodly periods of time, and three -- do not trust anything the Atroma send you! I'm not falling for it aga--

[There's a sudden explosion of confetti, the walls of the crate falling open as Jarvis yelps in a high and rather unflattering timbre, and behind him stands a cake nearly his height -- with HAPPY LATE BIRTHDAY in huge letters, as well as a banner that subtitles: sorry about being trapped on a cannibal planet. Jarvis leaps back to standing upright, adjusting his riled tie and crooked reading glasses -- and looking alarmed. And covered in confetti.]

The shield dissolves with a blip as if it was never there, leaving the man-eaters as prone as their prey. The Interceptors send out a transmission-- an unholy mix of Cockney and Australian that graces every available communicator-- if they answer it.]

We’re firin’! Do yer worst, Vieziri! We’re gonna kick yer sorry arses so hard you’ll kiss the moons!

[Five Interceptor ships swoop out of the dark and unload their various weaponry onto the Vieziri warships. At the same time, people stranded on the planet below ready the anti-aircraft guns onto their makers. And of course there is the Fleet itself, battered and yet beautiful across the velvet sky, as they fire everything they have.

Now the Vieziri start moving. Though the big red ship can’t do much maneuvering, the rest of the Vieziri warships certainly can. They fire back at the Interceptors and whoever else fires at them, willing to defend their leader and lose their lives in the process.

Luckily, the Interceptors have their own daring ships, which may look familiar to those who were here for the raider attack. One is emblazoned with racing stripes and flames all along the hull, and it moves so fast it nearly enters hyperspace. It’s there and gone in a flash, weaving past the enemy in crazy thrillseeking loops. Still another Interceptor ship is painted red and orange with a gold plate near the front, which reads BAMF with no explanation. This one has guns aplenty and easily weathers any duel it gets into. The third Interceptor ship is beautiful gold and black, sleek as hell and engineered with sense; this one packs the most gadgets and formidable guns of all calibers, and appears to do the most damage. Trailing behind is a much smaller ship, so nondescript it almost doesn’t stand out at all-- that is, until it forms a barrier to absorb some oncoming fire and reflect it back at the Vieziri.

There’s one ship that’s missing, though-- the one that was blown up several months ago after the heist. In its place is a small black ship that runs invisible to radar, sweeping past with silent speed as it lets loose a barrage of photon missiles onto the Vieziri flagship.

Down below, the Vieziri come out in full force-- one last stand before the warlord falls, trying to finish their fell rituals. Some of them rush the encampments, some go for the cities. Near the restored comms tower, a cloaked figure with a plain white mask fights their way through the onslaught using a plasma blade and a laser rifle.

After an hours-long siege, the big warship finally takes too much fire and breaks apart, lighting up the sky with falling shards like stars. The biggest debris burns up in orbit, but little pieces still rain down. It signals the end as the Vieziri begin to retreat both on ground and in the air. The loss of their leadership leaves them scattered and panicked.

The Fleet has won the day, but as the sun rises again over the wreckage, there is still plenty of work to be done.]
