Who: Kitty Pryde (Blue), Tyrion Lannister (Red), and YOU!
Broadcast: Video
Action: Málum
When: Now

[Kitty is holding his communicator outstretched so it can better fit her and Tyrion into the frame.]

So, with Crowley leaving awhile ago and various other employees disappearing on us we realized we’re the only ones working at the Málum which doesn’t really work for us because we have lives.

As amusing as it might sound for me to live in this particular bar, considering my ... vast love for wine and varying other liquors. [Tyrion smirks faintly into the communicator.] As it stands, two people cannot run a place like this properly. Ergo, we need more people.

That’s where you come in. Now hiring, well, everything. Bartenders, chefs, maintenance, maybe entertainment? [She looks at Tyrion.] Think we need a bouncer? I mean, for shifts I’m not on. Anything else?

[Tyrion mused for a moment, before he smiled once more.] Must be willing to deal with our rather upscale environment. No shoes, no shirt, no employment. We serve everyone but we are ...what is that word? Classy.

I’m personally open to negotiation on the shirts depending on who you are. [Smiling.] Hit us up.

Who: Natasha Romanoff
Broadcast: video
Action: SS Vanquish
When: now or later

[Natasha's face appears on the video, looking tired but focused. Thoughtful. She also looks like the image she presents, insofar as she can control it, is intentional. She's in her quarters, but the camera is angled to reveal little aside from a blank ship wall and the edge of her bunk behind her face and shoulders. There's no fumbling.

When the video starts, she flashes a slight smile.]

As announcements go, this one's a bit late. As of the end of calibrations, I've been the listed captain for the Vanquish.

[It's not an announcement that comes with any pride, or any sense of authority.]

It has had me thinking. I know different ships treat the titles differently, take them more seriously—or less. Most of the time it hasn't mattered to me all that much.

Not like there's any qualifications for it.

[The 'but' in her words is heavily implied in the pause that follows, the slow way she sighs through her nose.]

I've been wondering lately how people would like it to be. If you had a say in it—hypothetically unless you're my crew I suppose—how would you like captains to treat their job? And what would you say their job is.

[She leans back a little, visibly waiting for a response before the video cuts out.]

Hey there, fleeter friends, let me pick your brain for a few minutes, get those creative juices flowing.

[Toooootally theoretical. She's not fishing for new stuff to work on, no sir.

Lup can be found easily enough in person as needed, either in her room or in the kitchen on the Heron, or messing around in the smithy onboard the Iskaulit. It's project time.]

When: Now. c:

[ The good thing of about being young and curious is that, despite being from before electronics, once she's figured out the communicator, Lizzie pretty much has it down. So, thankfully, no one gets stuck staring at an eyeball on the network today. Nope, it's just Lizzie in a drab uniform instead of her usual pink and frilly finery and yet still looking like sunshine glorified as usual. For a new arrival, she's in a strangely good mood. ]

I beg pardon that it took me this long to introduce myself! This place has simply been such a change... I do hope everyone can forgive my rudeness.

[ Right, right. composing herself like the lady she is. ]

My name is Elizabeth Ethel Cordelia Midford, daughter of the leader of the British Knights!

Ah, of course, introducing myself isn't the only reason I'm doing this. You see...It seems I've found myself stuck wearing gentleman's trousers. It's quite unbecoming for a lady... I was hoping someone would be able to assist me in finding more proper clothing. These trousers aren't cute or ladylike at all... What would Ciel say if he saw this, oh my...

And oh, can you believe that we're truly in space? What a dream... If only I could walk among the stars with my darling fiance...

Broadcast: Yes
Action: Malum
When: post-shuffle

[ It's been quite a while since Dorian made a public broadcast, but all things considered, someone should do it, and why not him? He's nice to look at, has a way with words, and in a thoroughly bad mood. Still, no one would be able to tell with that public mask he has.

The feed opens up on a booth at Malum, A close-up of Dorian and his glass of wine. ]

For those of you who have somehow not noticed, a great number of our own have left this cold, dismal place that has yet to reward us for their invasive and cruel treatment of us. [ An elegant eyebrow raises and his mouth draws into a line. ]

The most appalling is their lack of proper spirits, however, this will have to do. The very least we deserve is a decent meal and a proper, stiff drink- perhaps twenty. It is an insignificantly small mercy that the ones who are no longer with us don't have to suffer the Atroma and their churlish silent treatment.

The morning of the final day of the year - called Last Eve - brings with it a soft, gentle chorus of bells. No matter what town or city you've found yourself in, the tradition is the same: a simple scale plays every hour throughout the day - a melodic, slow countdown to all the festivities to come tonight. People - especially children! - run through the streets ringing hand-held bells of their own, all in the name of good luck and best wishes for the upcoming year. Don't want to wait for the night to start the party? Don't worry! There's plenty to do all day long, too!

A ringing melody in the wind

You thought the festivals throughout the month were extravagant? Well, they're nothing compared to the parades today! Marching bands, performers, and dance crews show off routines they've been preparing for months, candy flies through the air for all of the parade-goers to catch and keep... The floats are elaborate and grand, with humongous shapes in bright colors. A lot of heart, soul, and expert craftsmanship went into these, and it shows. Some parades have set themes, others are just a representation of the towns that give them and what they've put together to share with everyone... but all of them are full of love, joy, and good luck wishes for the upcoming year. Maybe you're part of the parade - riding on a float, tossing out candy, singing or playing an instrument... or maybe you're just there to watch! No matter which way, it's going to be a good time.

The waters may be too cold to swim in, but that's why boats exist! Once the sun goes down, the natural glow of the water is even more breathtaking set against the black, starry skies -- and local tradition is to spend Last Eve out on the water in some way! From rowboats, paddle boats, and sailboats to motorized party boats with loudly blasting music and flashing lights, or huge luxury liners with all the fancy trimmings of fine dining and entertainment -- no matter what kind of boat you want, you're going to have a great time ringing in the new year on the water. Get your party boat on! Or, spend a romantic evening with your loved one on a crewed private charter! Or, row out on your own and meet up with other rowers. Bring snacks~ and a life vest - safety first!

The best part, though, isn't Last Eve... it's First Dawn. Once it gets closer and closer to midnight, and the bells begin to chime louder, and faster, and more jubilant... that's when the real light show begins.

Light up the skies!

Almost every inch of the night sky is covered in bright lights and brilliant hues as fireworks soar through the black. The breathtaking display reflects in the glowing waters, which seem to mimic all the colors back like a visual echo. And with the backdrop of the bells' song, this is how the new year comes to Libuscha IV.

So - Happy Last Eve, and Happy First Dawn. Enjoy your holiday, dear Fleet. ♥

Who: Kravitz and YOU!
Broadcast: Yes!
Action: On the SS Bloodsport!
When: After the last shuffle!

1) [ action -- SS Bloodsport ]
[ Hello, Bloodsport, you have a new crew member! He's... very confused, wondering why he keeps getting yanked around -- honestly, it's kind of rude. And definitely not the kind of rude that can be made up for with pudding and confetti. Oh well.

He brushes the colorful bits of paper off of the sleeves of his suit coat, straightens his tie, and... starts walking. There's got to be a reason he's just suddenly appeared in this place, right? ]

Hello? ... Is there anyone actually here?

[ Because geez, it's quiet - and not the kind of quiet he likes. ]

2) [ video ]
[ So far, Kravitz's entire experience here has been 1) wake up in a giant spaceship. 2) attempt to regain bearings. 3) almost immediately end up whisked away onto some other ship with a *Pop!* and some confetti. 4) try the pudding. ... It's mediocre at best.

So when he finds this... very complicated Stone of Farspeech... and sees others using it to talk, of course he's going to give it a try. He turns it on, angles the camera well enough to get himself in-frame, and clears his throat. ]

-- Right. Well. I've pretty much gathered the short of what this all is, so beyond that, I have to ask: how cut-off are we? Because there are several people that I really should call right now, and I have a feeling the answer is going to be, "That's impossible". So... how impossible?

[ He's been stuck alone and cut-off from everyone and everything before. This situation is, arguably, better than that... but that doesn't mean he has to like it. ]

Broadcast: Hell yes!
Action: If you want to happen upon him at space bar, which is where he's making this broadcast, you know what? Go right ahead!
When: Mid-Day; Today like earlier today :)

[Those who tune in to the network right about now are greated by the Bull's smiling face. It's his customer service face, but nobody besides Cyril and Leilani have ever hired his guy around here, so they're probably the only ones who realize that. He's got a full mug of ale sitting beside him and...a...notebook?]

Hey, everybody, and...uh, you guys at home too, I guess. [He clears his throat.] Okay, so we all know that we're being recorded to entertain people, right? And we all agree the Atroma are dicks, but did you know the people who watch us can send us letters? There's this how little kiosk thing here on the Iskaulit, and some people sent me some stuff.

[He rolls his shoulders in a shrug.] I mean, it's creepy, shit yeah, it's creepy, but it's sort of better, seeing people say stuff about what they're seeing on this...uh, show thing. They're real people, you know, and uh...a lot like fans of other stuff. Anyway, I was gonna respond to some stuff, maybe make them feel like we care too, you know? I don't know, it sounded good in my head, anyway.

[He picks up the notebook and clears this throat before reading this first one. Bull's not usually a man who knows shame, and he's not exactly bashful about this one, it just makes him a little uncomfortable.]

It got kinda long... )

[He pushes the notebook aside, finishes his beer and waves someone over for another before taking a breath.] So, that's it. If you want more, write more in, I guess. [And he makes a wave at the camera.] Talk to you later.

[Network]

[Cyril has been asleep for the last few weeks and when he finally comes to he feels an odd sense of resignment over this whole thing. He really should be angrier, he thinks, but all he can really do is sigh, shake his head, and get really drunk.]

Well, I'm in a mood for a drink. If anyone wants to join me, I'll be at the Space Bar.

[Action]

[And that is exactly where he is after he makes this announcement. He seems pretty relaxed as he orders something strong and works to finish it off. He really doesn't want to seem contemplative or mopey, but he can't quite shake the realization that Atroma could literally do anything to him and he'd be powerless to stop them.

He hates not being able to control every little thing about his own body.

That's why he looks especially well tonight. His make up is even more on point than normal, his hair is perfectly placed, his clothes chosen to complement his form the best way he can, and everything about his body language is so tightly performative - purposely portraying the image of someone without a care in the world.

These are the things he does control. He controls how much alcohol he puts in his system and allows the fuzz to take away the edge of the sharp fear in his chest. He controls how much he smiles and jokes with those around him. He needs to believe that he maintains some level of control, because being reminded that the chip in his head means Atroma can play with him like a little toy makes an uneasiness settle over him he would very much like to ignore for now.

Who: Alucard Emery and YOU

Action: SS Wonderduck!
When: post-shuffle

action - ss wonderduck
[It has been...a very disconcerting few hours for Alucard. First, waking up in an unknown, unfamiliar location, alone. And then having barely enough time to process and explore that first ship before being surprisingly dumped onto another.

...With confetti.

He's absolutely on his guard. In fact there's a piece of metal hovering by his left hand that...was probably a tool of some kind, left out on the bridge. It's since been shaped into a rough approximation of a knife. Just in case. Sorry. (If he had access to some sort of liquid, he would have used that but it seems to be in short supply in his current vicinity.)

Alucard is wary, but there's something that has seemed to capture his attention. For the first while after the welcome music and the confetti, he stands in front of the viewport out into the stars, a little bit in awe despite himself.

Later, he can be found in the halls, eventually ending up in the engine room with his hands on his hips. What an interesting contraption that he suddenly understands the functions of...]

broadcast
[Being the kind of guy he is, Alucard takes a while to familiarize himself with the comm, how it works and how to best present himself when he finally addresses the other members of the Fleet.

When he does open the video to post on the network, he's standing in the middle of his (too small, in his opinion) bunk. The comm itself is propped up on the shelf above the bed. He's got a glass of water in his hand. Alucard is definitely well-dressed, clothed in something that looks vaguely historical in nature and dark blue with gold trimmings. Maybe even more eye-catching, though, is the fact that his skin seems to be lined in a dull silver. Specifically, wherever you'd expect to see the blue of veins, there's what seems like either ornamentation or scarring.

Alucard nods at the camera, the expression on his face vaguely pleasant but not overly enthused.]

Good day. My name is Alucard Emery and I am a recent recruit to this, ah, fascinating fleet. [The sass is strong with this one. Though he still offers a very small bow to the camera. He's not devoid of manners.] Since I've been informed that my stay may be extended, I thought it polite to make my introductions. Though I'll admit it feels strange to offer introductions so...generally. What an interesting little device.

I also had a question to ask. Or perhaps an observation to offer. [As he speaks, the water in his glass...moves. It doesn't slosh. It ribbons up out of its container.] Where I'm from, magic is...omnipresent. But as far as I can tell, this place, these ships...there aren't even any natural sources of it. [The water curls around the fingers of his left hand, threading between them. After a moment, he turns his hand palm-up, and the liquid gathers in the middle of it. Alucard closes his hand around the mass and though someone might expect water to be dripping off of his hand now...it isn't. When he reopens his hand, the water has been transformed into a round orb of ice.] Is magic rare here? Or haven't I explored enough?

[He deposits the ice-ball back into his glass with a hum.]

I must say, for all the new wonders this place has to offer...it is a bit dull.

(ooc edit: considering the nature of Alucard's question, I have a small info-gathering poll for character with connections to magic.)

Life. It's been a hard life. And sometimes that catches up with him, so hooray alcohol and existential 2am thoughts.]

But, right, so, some people in the fleet are from earlier that other people in the fleet from the same versh.. version of the same world, right? So then would them changing someone when they get back - or if I guess 'cause who knows - would them changing a big thing then change that thing for the people here from later there? If say... Idunno, I was from before all the stuff and decided not to go to Kirkwall, would other stuff have happened instead of my stuff? Would that change all the... the stuff?

[Maker he needs Varric or Carver to translate his drunkspeech. He's not so far gone that he can't tell he's making the least amount of sense.]

Or if-if... I dunno if I should say that nevermind, but you all get my point, right? Is it set in stone? Or is it like... all these different Thedaseses that everyone is from, they just get made when something else changed so it still happened but the other thing happened too, somehow? Uh.

[He frowns into his mug. These are very murky, complicated thoughts. Clearly he needs to wash them off with more alcohol.]

One of the strange things about being in a new reality, I've come to realize, comes down to grasping social norms. They aren't the exact same here as they were on Thedas, and each one of us brings our own world with us when we interact with one another. My 'I think you're gorgeous and funny and would love to get you know better' might be read as your 'I'm only thinking about your body.'

It's hard enough navigating the subtlety there without adding to the mix different a world's views on sex and relationships.

That means research and asking questions. Or at least it does if you're me, I suppose.

I explain all of that simply so you understand how it is that recently I discovered a concept called 'pick up lines.' From what I've learned, they are terrible and awkward. Of course this means that I adore them.

Hit me with your best shot, friends. Give me your favorite pick up lines. I need to hear them all.

You know what we need? More model ships. Of the entire Fleet. You know, you could have one of the Iskaulit which is bigger than most of the others. One for the Marsiva but the rule is you only get to play with it once and then never again.

The model of the Blameless would be the cutest. I'm sorry to say for the rest of you lot. That's just the facts.

[ The video opens with Leilani fiddling with something in her hands, but she's quick to turn her attention to the camera and focus on the people she's talking to. In my clan we did not celebrate the winter as the rest of the world did. I didn't recognise that there were different celebrations until I became the Inquisitor, and then it felt as though I was pretending to understand something that was completely alien to me.
