Action: The Blameless
When: after arriving in the new system

( a: On the Blameless! )

[His brief stint on the Marsiva had given Messer a chance to wake up, acclimate to the idea of his new location- and with it, a tentative understanding of why he's even alive. Walking through the hall and finding the empty expanse of space ready to greet him through the window was at least a comfort, something familiar, peaceful, almost. It's not Ragna, it's not Elysion, it's not even Al Shahal (though that's a relief). His hand drifts to the back of his neck, feeling for the augment, taking quiet note of the new information pouring into his mind, and trying not to be overwhelmed by the disturbing nature of this place.

His calm demeanor is interrupted when he's suddenly teleported to the bridge of another ship, confetti and pudding on hand to add to the absurdity of it all. It isn't "his" ship just yet, however, and his professional instincts kick in, so rather than explore the rest of the ship he finds himself a corner of the bridge and pulls out his communicator, reviewing old logs, researching everything there is to see on the network. That's where he'll be until he speaks to someone with some authority. Rank and file is important, after all.

Once that's settled, then he'll venture into the rest of the ship. Find his room, meet the crew, gather intel. And... organize the cleaning robots, apparently? His new job is so weird.]

( b: A ghost on a ghost planet )

[It’s strange. He’s never been overly fond of crowds as a concept - he likes to keep to himself too much - but the lack of any is far too alarming. It leaves him an open target on the street, nowhere to lose himself. Sticking to the edges of buildings can only help so much. And being armed with one of the guns from the Blameless armory is little comfort. (He needs to find a place for target practice ASAP.) The way this planet functions is suspicious as hell, so rather than looting he’s stalking around the place, collecting information, and watching everyone and everything. He’s more or less waiting for the other shoe to drop. Pounds and pounds of free food everywhere, and he doesn’t touch a crumb.

...He should probably steal some clothes, though. This one outfit isn’t going to take him very far.

The way he wanders around with a quiet, calm expression instead of gawking at everything probably makes him look more like a native of the planet than a new arrival, and it doesn’t help that he watches every single member of the fleet that passes him by, either. So that’s a thing.]

As always, her tone is friendly, offering an easy approach should someone need it.]

When I think about it sometimes, the fact some people here don't have regular space travel back home is still hard for me to wrap my head around. For me, it's as normal as waking up in the morning. Going from planet to planet or system to system, for performances or otherwise, is so routine, I never bat an eye. It makes me wonder how close other worlds are from achieving the same thing. Or maybe you're already there.

[Only now does a striped mercat start shuffling across the desk in front of the camrea. Kaname chuckles a little, tucking some hair behind her ear before lifting him off and placing him in her lap.] I guess I want to know about that. Or maybe what's common for you but strange to others? Like back home, everyone knows the term Protoculture, but here... I think I'd be surprised if someone else did. If anyone wants to share, I'd love to hear it.

Who: Everyone
Broadcast: Yes
Action: Lato'li's orbit and also planetside.
When: Forward dated to 11/15.

[The Interceptor Fleet moves into position, waiting for the last few shield generators to fall. And in the early hours of the 15th, they do. The shield dissolves with a blip as if it was never there, leaving the man-eaters as prone as their prey. The Interceptors send out a transmission-- an unholy mix of Cockney and Australian that graces every available communicator-- if they answer it.]

We’re firin’! Do yer worst, Vieziri! We’re gonna kick yer sorry arses so hard you’ll kiss the moons!

[Five Interceptor ships swoop out of the dark and unload their various weaponry onto the Vieziri warships. At the same time, people stranded on the planet below ready the anti-aircraft guns onto their makers. And of course there is the Fleet itself, battered and yet beautiful across the velvet sky, as they fire everything they have.

Now the Vieziri start moving. Though the big red ship can’t do much maneuvering, the rest of the Vieziri warships certainly can. They fire back at the Interceptors and whoever else fires at them, willing to defend their leader and lose their lives in the process.

Luckily, the Interceptors have their own daring ships, which may look familiar to those who were here for the raider attack. One is emblazoned with racing stripes and flames all along the hull, and it moves so fast it nearly enters hyperspace. It’s there and gone in a flash, weaving past the enemy in crazy thrillseeking loops. Still another Interceptor ship is painted red and orange with a gold plate near the front, which reads BAMF with no explanation. This one has guns aplenty and easily weathers any duel it gets into. The third Interceptor ship is beautiful gold and black, sleek as hell and engineered with sense; this one packs the most gadgets and formidable guns of all calibers, and appears to do the most damage. Trailing behind is a much smaller ship, so nondescript it almost doesn’t stand out at all-- that is, until it forms a barrier to absorb some oncoming fire and reflect it back at the Vieziri.

There’s one ship that’s missing, though-- the one that was blown up several months ago after the heist. In its place is a small black ship that runs invisible to radar, sweeping past with silent speed as it lets loose a barrage of photon missiles onto the Vieziri flagship.

Down below, the Vieziri come out in full force-- one last stand before the warlord falls, trying to finish their fell rituals. Some of them rush the encampments, some go for the cities. Near the restored comms tower, a cloaked figure with a plain white mask fights their way through the onslaught using a plasma blade and a laser rifle.

After an hours-long siege, the big warship finally takes too much fire and breaks apart, lighting up the sky with falling shards like stars. The biggest debris burns up in orbit, but little pieces still rain down. It signals the end as the Vieziri begin to retreat both on ground and in the air. The loss of their leadership leaves them scattered and panicked.

The Fleet has won the day, but as the sun rises again over the wreckage, there is still plenty of work to be done.]

[ooc: Feel free to assume the Interceptors are helping your ships! The gold and black ship can be hailed and will give responses, as she’s been the main point of contact during this plot. Who: Kaname, Freyja, and YOU
Broadcast: Yep!
Action: Sure, if they're by the Bloodsport wreckage on the hellplanet.
When: The 1st

[When the video opens, Kaname and Freyja are both visible, sitting next to each other and they look kinda scratched up and generally not in the best of shape (though not really terribly off, either.) Freyja waves energetically at everyone before actually saying something.]

Hoina! Eheh, so, Kaname-san and I wanna let everyone know somethin' we found out 'cause it could be useful, especially if you're down here.

[Kaname nods, a small smile on her face.] The short version is we're singers back home, and our voices can have an effect on different things. We weren't sure how that would play out here at first, but we've found they do work against the Vieziri. When confronted, they're stalled or severely slowed. Right now, we don't have an estimate on how long it holds them for, but it's likely it would be enough time to gain some distance if it came to that.

[And then Freyja interjects again, with another wave at the camera.] Soooooooo, if you need any help, you should ask! 'Cause we might be able to do somethin' about it, especially if the Vieziri keep comin' after you. We'll do our best to help anyone that needs it.

[And she looks thoughtful for a second.] Ehh... there was somethin' else too, wasn't there?

[The older singer chuckles and pats her shoulder.] Additionally, it's stronger with the two of us together, since we amplify each other's voices, even if one of us will do in a pinch. Please don't hesitate to ask if you'd like some company on a scavenging trip. Please note, we're no substitute for anyone with actual combat skills, so do be safe in that regard as well.

And yes, there is.
[Kaname can't help but shake her head a little in amusement.] Once everything here is taken care and we're back in orbit, we'd like to consult with an engineer about hopefully building us some equipment similar to what we use back home. You will be compensated for your time, of course.

Mmhm! We can describe it and everything if that's what you're gonna need. It can wait, but we wanted to ask anyway just in case! It'd help us protect ourselves if we ever had to go in a fight. [So with that, Freyja shrugs. That mostly covers what they needed to say right now.] Sooo, just let us know, okay? We're listenin', promise! [And then, in true Walkure fashion, she throws the Walkure gangsign.]

[There's a final nod from Kaname and an accompanying W before she leans forward to turn off the camera.]

[PLANETSIDE]

[The communications systems have been down for days now. The silence of the fallen ships contrasts sharply with the noise of the forest, for better or worse. But today, in the middle of the night, all personal communicators and ship consoles spit and crackle a mostly-intelligible message. It’s video, even! The figure is difficult to see over the broadcast, but the one thing that stands out is a stark white mask painted with gold.]

Hey! Listen up! I don’t have all day. That means you, travelers. Sorry about the time, it’s the only way I can be sure I won’t be interrupted.

[Though the gender of the speaker is difficult to place, their voice is pleasant to listen to… or it would be, if the broadcast could stop being staticky!]

I know how you can get off this miserable rock before you get eaten. Help me and I’ll help you. We can discuss payment when the situation is a little less dire. [A wry laugh.] I think my demands aren’t too outrageous, considering I can give you everything you need to reverse your fortune.

First things first: you’ll need to be able to talk to the others who got shot down. At the coordinates I’m about to give you, you’ll find the old comms tower. It’s not working at the moment, but you should be able to find something you can use in the ruins around it. Wires, or a battery, or whatever you can salvage, figure it out! Get that thing going and communications should be restored on your end. Right now you can’t get past the jammer, but get a boost and that should be it. Your communicators will handle the rest, even if they’re third class junk.

Here are the coordinates: 5° 10' 3.0089'' north, 24° 3' 98.3199'' east. Repeat: 5° 10' 3.0089'' north, 24° 3' 98.3199'' east. Surely one of you knows how to navigate by the stars, right?

After you get the tower running, I suggest you start scavenging. There’s all sorts of parts laying around and the villagers will help you if they can. The sooner you get your ships fixed, the better. You won’t be able to fly off-- well, I don’t recommend it-- because of the guns. That’s a problem that we’ll tackle later. For now, focus on making a base and defending it.

I’m sure you have questions. I might have answers, depending. Important questions only, now. Don’t waste my time.

And if you absolutely need a name, call me Zhade.

[SHIPSIDE]

[The broadcast is heavily jumbled at first, but that is definitely someone hailing your ship! The video is dark and grainy at best, the exact gender and build difficult to discern underneath all that black cape and armor, but they have a white mask with gold paint. It stands out, considering most of the Vieziri have stainless steel masks and war paint only.]

You! Yes, you. All of you. Your friends on the planet are safe. Probably. Mostly. What’s important is that they’re working to navigate the communication block. That means you’ll be back in touch soon.

I know you want to reunite with them as soon as possible. Here’s the thing-- you can’t do it without me. And I can’t get off this miserable garbage pile of a planet without your help, so let’s cut a deal. Show me some kindness in the form of credits and I’ll be sure to repay it with intel. Clear?

The name’s Zhade, if you feel like writing this down in your diary.

I don’t expect you to trust me without showing my word is good. So out of the kindness of my heart, I’ll let you in on something.

If you want to rescue your friends, you’ll need more than gumption or good pilots. You’ll have to disable the anti aircraft weaponry or risk everything being blown to smithereens. The Vieziri don’t mind if their dinner is minced meat.

That doesn’t mean you can’t send down supplies, though. Actually-- if you drop something that’s smaller than one of your shuttles, they can’t detect it on the scanners.

Once the jammer’s taken care of, you’ll all have to contend with the anti aircraft fire if you want to leave. I have some ideas for that, but you’ll want to make sure you’re in top shape first. So focus on repairing your ships and defending yourselves. You’ll want guns, the bigger the better. You’re gonna need it.

[The figure folds their arms.]

I have a few minutes to answer questions, but I can’t risk it much longer. Make it quick.

[ooc: The NPC will be available to answer questions mostly in the evenings PST and over the weekend. For characters who are exceptionally grateful to Zhade and would like to encourage further cooperation, an invoice can be found on their communicators, which they can pay with credits conveniently docked from their accounts.

Additionally, ships in orbit should now be able to send video broadcasts, though the reception is not perfect and may still cut out, glitch, or go static from time to time. Planetside communications to ships in orbit will be restored when the comms tower is fixed.

Please make sure to indicate if you are grounded or in orbit in your replies, as they are two separate broadcasts and these two groups can't interact yet!

Further questions should be asked here on the plot post. Thank you!]

I don't think I ever realized how big the Iskaulit was until just now. Planning out a jogging path ahead of time might've saved me from getting lost on a couple occasions. [Kaname chuckles at herself.] It's still worthwhile despite that. But what's really striking is how barren it feels compared to the Elysion. Maybe it'll just take time...

[Her voice trails off as she straightens before addressing the network again.]

Broadcast: Open to all
Action: Open at the Space Bar
When: Now

I should probably mention I'm awake again since that's what everyone's doing. Who knew so many of us were sleeping together? [Light laughter. Yep. Okay, more serious face now.]

So, I heard what happened, and I don't want to make light of that. I know what losing a planet is like and it's...not great. [Such understatement.] But I also wanted to provide some distraction. [It's what he's best at.] Some fun. Some potential healing? [For himself too. He's still processing what happened to Okita and the others.]

For anyone who is interested—either over the network or by coming into the Space Bar at the Iskaulit—let's play a game I picked up on earth called, I Never. [He may also be correcting what he thought was awkward grammar from someone saying "Never have I ever." Details.]

So, you take turns and say something like, "I never crash landed on Earth." And if you have then you take a drink. [And he does.] Which is usually alcohol, but apparently [apparently, he says] kids don't do that here, so water or whatever is fine too. The objective is to make the other person drink more than you, so you might just get them really hydrated instead of drunk.

It's a good way to get to know someone too, so everyone's welcome even all those people I don't know yet. I'll start.

I never was born on Earth. [He doesn't drink.]

[If you do meet up with him at the Space Bar you'll see he's actually bartending and drinking on the job! But he has superhuman tolerance so there's that. He may even be responsible and switch to club soda if he needs to. He'll offer you a drink even if you're not interested in the game.]

(OOC: Feel free to threadjack if you want in on this concept with someone else too or just to point and laugh. You might want to check with them, but it's cool with me. When: January 1. Happy New Year?

[ The man who appears on the screen is a pitiful sight indeed. He’s has a gaunt, tired face, framed by brittle white hair, and looks as if he hasn’t eaten a good meal in months.

This is clearly a man with one foot in the grave, and is altogether unfamiliar—until he speaks.
]

My name is Theon. Theon Greyjoy.

[ You have to remember your name, he thinks as he chuckles dryly, a ghastly smile breaking across his face. His teeth are showing his teeth to be a painful, splintered mess; a far cry from the charming grin that’s become Theon Greyjoy’s trademark. He’s skin and bones and appears as if he’s aged ten years, though no more than a single year has passed for him. ]

You won’t recognize me, but I’ll recognize all of you. I will.

[ He still sees their faces clearly; those from his own world, his crewmates, and those he’s met from other ships. He remembers how this works. He may be addled, driven half mad by the horrific things he’s gone through, but his mind and memory both still work. His voice is hoarse, less commanding than it once was, and he seems to be teetering somewhere between laughter and tears with each word, but he’s holding it together none the less. It could be worse; it could always be worse. ]

Perhaps Atroma should have reconsidered bringing me back.

[ He chortles, gesturing to his skeletal appearance. He looks awful, nothing like the handsome young man he once was, but at least he can joke about it, right? What can he do to change it now? ]

They’ll only lose their audience when they see me. Do you regret it now, Atroma? I was of use to you before. [ Another laugh, something closer to a giggle. ] You’ve only harmed yourself, but not me. There’s little left that you can do to harm me.

[Paisley]

[ And for all crew and visitors on the Paisley, this new Theon can be found in the armory. It’s silent, free from the sounds of what used to be his near-daily target practice. He isn’t even looking at the weaponry. Instead, he’s seated himself at the desk, staring at his hands. A quick glance will show that they’ve been mangled just as badly as his teeth. Three fingers have been removed, one from the left and two from the right, leaving nothing but nubs.

He knows he’ll never be able to pull a bowstring again.
