A. Goldstone cargo hold - during the drift

[After leaving the junk planet behind, the crew of the Goldstone may find, while visiting the hold for any reason, that the space is dominated by a large pile of parts that their engineer had acquired during the stay. The bulk of it remains hidden under a sheet while he work on it, though there are telling bits and pieces strewn about - tires here, a headlight there - should one bother to investigate closer. Felix tinkers on this project obsessively over the next week, assembling the growing bulk of the thing, where he can easily be found during the drift - likely with his head poked under the sheet as he works.

The reason for this becomes apparent when the next planet comes into range.
]

Private communication to Crowley: Come to the cargo hold. I have something that may interest you.

B. Libuscha IV

[Felix isn't especially keen on the cold weather nor the attraction of decorating and gift giving that always tends to come with these winter holidays. What little he can be found out and about in the town is in passing, driving the small black four-wheeler over the roads to one destination or another. You may catch him at a small feast, smiling broadly and toasting with the locals, or browsing a cluttered bookstore for additions to his library, or at the castle, wandering the halls or standing on the battlements, looking down at the glittering lights on the town with a contemplative and wistful expression.

The rest of the time, however, he and Crowley are ensconced in the room of a cozy inn, fireplace ablaze and bed piled high with extra blankets

Who: Taako, Lup, and you!
Broadcast: N/A
Action: Planetside, Iskaulit
When: Now-ish!

Picture this - a planet that serves as the junkyard for the rest of the universe. Towns and cities are littered among the trash, having grown up wherever space provided. In one corner of this garbage-filled world is a city, not a massive city like Neverwinter or a small podunk thing, but a city tried and true. Which means it has a town square where all the main traffic flows through on any given day; bakers and merchants and workers, miners and salvagers and travelers, a myriad of people all going about their typical boring days.

And then two ostentatiously ugly costumes just start floating through the middle of it all. People scatter because costumes that look like Shaggy Bear consumed Gloomy Bear's Soul and Big Bird had a Bad Bender and Never Recovered should not be floating through the middle of town. They carve a path and set themselves up, swaying gently in the breeze, in the very center of the square where all can see. Horrified expressions mix with curiosity as the costumes hang there, doing nothing, and then slowly people start to gather.

Which is when Taako, cloaked in invisibility, looks over at Lup and smirks. It's show time. You ready?
this is definitely a fire hazard - cut for length )
Lup waves a hand in front of herself, and a Mage Hand glides along the ground to scoop up the discarded credits, then brandishes a bag, glittery and bedazzled (as only befits a fashion god) and gestures pointedly towards it. "Anyone else feel like being spared?"

"The bigger the donation, the higher the salvation," Taako chimes in, whipping out a similar bag just in a different color.

There's a long pause as the residents debate their options, but another confused wail from the woman down the road gets a few people moving, dropping coins into the bags and fleeing the scene. They're not asking for much, they're not animals, but a little bit (from a lot of people) goes a long way!

Option A: Were you in the crowd when this all went down? Want to talk to Taako and Lup? They're both walking through the crowd now, so this is your chance to see the face-twins in action.

Option B: Is flying solo more your style? Which of them do you want to talk to: Taako or Lup?

Some time passes as they collect their bounty, and eventually a small group of more serious, burly viewers branch off and vanish into a shop. Lup watches them carefully, keeping her smile frozen in place as she gently shoos away a little girl trying to give her a single credit, because she's definitely not stealing from children. Those guys are probably going for weapons. Hey, Taako? I think that's our cue to make an exit.

Taako nods in agreement and tips his hat to the patrons nearby. He's gotten more than he expected today, so now it's time, as Lup says, for a flashy exit. There's no point in subtlety when the villagers are going for pitchforks. He puts his hands together and starts casting, light emanating from his fingers as he summons the only exit worth summoning. The light causes people to draw back from him and in their place, a beautiful, mulleted, rainbow-colored phantasm of a binicorn appears.

"Yo boss. It time to go?"

"You know it, Garyl. Lup! Let's hit it!"

There's an audible, delighted gasp from Lup, and without hesitation she hops onto the binicorn's back with Taako. With a loud whinny Garyl rears up on his hind legs, giving them one final opportunity for a dramatic pose (which they of course indulge) before Taako urges Garyl off at full speed, leaving behind them a rainbow of light. Before they vanish from sight, Lup, one arm wound around Taako's waist, blows the befuddled crowd a kiss. And just like that, they're gone again, with the now-armed local guard giving a futile chase behind them.

Option C: Catch them after their daring escape, laughing their asses off outside of the danger zone, or on the Iskaulit, perhaps over drinks?

The Heron - OTA

[Now that she's been on the ship for a while, she no longer relies on her mask. It doesn't matter anymore. Her ship mates know who she is. Her limited amount of associates know who she is. So does the audience that watches this "entertainment show."

And the fanmail is getting ridiculous. In fact, she's going through a few of them right now in the ship's lounge, trying to figure out what to do with them.]

Why would.... I am not answering questions about my personal life here or back home!

Iskaulit's dojo - Private to Sora and Morgan

[After her conversation with Sora over the devices, Lucina has realized how much she's been neglecting her own training since her arrival. Yes, she's gone out and done more than one job on the planets and systems they've visited. Yes, she's been working with Messer a bit here and there to train one another with other weapons they weren't familiar with. However, it's just not the same.

So, when Sora asked her to possibly train him on how to soften some blows to keep humans alive, she jumped on the option. It had to be better than just sitting around and doing nothing. The dojo is the best place to do this. And, well, why wouldn't she invite Morgan? He's better at making friends than she is and she's sure that they'd get along. Not that Morgan doesn't get along with everyone he's met.

Here she is, waiting patiently for them to arrive to start a training session. Well, as patiently as she can while using one of the bows she got months ago to shoot arrows into a training dummy.]

Iskaulit - OTA

[She's no cook, but the food on the ships isn't exactly what she would call good. As it is, she tries to find as much time as she can with. There are three establishments that serve food and drink, she knows, but she's yet to visit any of them. Her purpose is to rectify that with frequent trips to the Iskaulit for something other than training.

So, expect to see long blue hair everywhere as she explores more fully. She makes many stops at Málum, Space Bar, and The Melting Pot to figure out which atmosphere she likes best. When she's not in those places, she can be found in the library that once belonged to someone capable of using magic if the books are any indication. Or near the unused theater. Or maybe you find her in the dojo, practicing with her sword or bow.]

This time it's not in celebration of the games but something - or someone - a little more personal to some of the members of the fleet. After all, Felix had promised, in a way.

A brief text message will be sent out the fleet
]

There will be a celebration this evening in memory of our friend Lumiere, who has since departed the fleet. Regardless of whether you knew him, come enjoy yourself as I'm sure he would have wanted.

[The coordinates that follow lead to a small lounge-like venue near the beach in the Brightbirds territory. The main room is bright and cozy, hosting the featured entertainment for the night, orange-skinned men and women dancers in flowing, feathered, revealing garments who make sinuous circles around the room. Musicians with guitar-like instruments and drums play throughout the night, to accompany the dancers.

On the patio there is a buffet full of small finger foods like skewers of meat and candied fruits and various other decadently simple dishes. The bar is also nearby - though the drinks aren't free, they are available at a discount for the evening.

If you want a little more quiet, the patio leads directly out onto the beach, which is also set with small cushions and tables for you to enjoy your food and drink while you listen to the waves and the distant city lights reflected in the water

( Jean isn't a stranger to space. She isn't a stranger to time travel. She is a stranger to this particular space ship, though, and she's not really sure why she's here or how she got here. It's a pain in the ass, really, considering she just got back from space not even two weeks ago and here she is again, trapped in the limbo of endless black and stars close enough to touch. She'd started on a ship with limited capacity and basically no people and at least she's actually on a ship with people now. It's an improvement - somewhat.

Great. Just peachy.

Maybe this time they can skip the Invasion of the Symbiotes and she'll get to keep control of her own body and mind. It'd be nice, for once, not to have to worry about some alien entity invading her body for the fun of it. )

So, uh, question? What sector of space are we in, exactly? Because I just got back from a stint on Klyntar and let me tell you, it wasn't great. I don't want to go back. So if we're anywhere remotely close by (read: within one million lightyears), I'd like to go ahead and nope out now.

( Maybe this isn't the best way to introduce herself to an entire space fleet but, hey, Jean has never been one to beat around the bush. Being a telepath, she has an idea of how people's brains work and it's given her the overarching sense that she needs to just shoot straight ninety nine percent of the time. What's the point in subtlety? Say what you think, be bold, no regrets. It keeps people from misinterpreting your motives, anyway. )

Anyone got ideas on how I can get back to Earth from here? I don't want it to seem like it's less important than the former, because really, if I'm not anywhere near Klyntar I'm good, but I kind of have a team I need to get back to. I'm Jean Grey and I'm captain of the X-Men.

Who: Felix Harrowgate and you

Action: Málum
When: Today-ish

[It's largely boredom that leads Felix to this decision. Either in the Mirador or Paradisa, he'd been fond of finding any reason whatsoever to get a few people together for food and drinks. The company generally meant more than the setting, though of course it was far easier to arrange things at a snap of his fingers than it was here. Still, he manages it within a few days of the fleet's time adrift.

That morning, he addresses the network.
]

Hello again, dear fleet. Felix Harrowgate of the Goldstone here, if we haven't yet met. I've put together a little soirée this evening, at Málum. Consider it an appreciation of our time of peace and quiet...or the beginnings of spring. Whichever sounds best to you. It isn't much, admittedly, but there is food and drinks and hopefully people. May as well enjoy things before something else explodes, hm?

Oh, and semi-formal attire would be appreciated, not that I intend on turning anyone out at the door. I'm sure many of us have a little something in our closet that doesn't much get to see the light of day. [Well, not so much in his case, of course, but the point stands]

See you all tonight. [He closes the feed with a smile]

[That night Málum is - not transformed, exactly, but - altered. The stark furniture softened with simple white tablecloths, with centerpieces cobbled together from wine glasses, candles, and flowers from the garden. The neon, for the night, has been switched off. Even the galaxy of lights on the dancefloor have been changed to project the shape of flowers.

The food laid out is fairly basic but fitting the bar's wheelhouse - meats cooked inside puff pastry, thin stacks of sauteed vegetables, and mini quiches to name of few. The finale sits in the form of the lemon cake (commissioned, likely, from the Melting Pot). Some of the flavor is even real lemon!

Drinks are free within reason and music plays softly in the background, for anyone that feels like dancing. Felix would have preferred more classical selections, but all of this is a case of working with what you have.
]

[EDIT: If you wait too long Sansa will have stolen most of the cake]

She takes a deep breath, clears her throat, and puts on a smile - as bright as she can manage! ]

U-Um, hello? Is someone seeing this? I'm a little confused about some things... Before here, I was somewhere else with, um, cell phones? But this doesn't look like the same thing. Right. My name is Escha Malier, by the way.

Waah--!! Huh??

Umm... Thank you! Who... whoever did that? Um.

[ She blinks at the confetti on the floor, then at the pudding in her hands, at the confetti once more... And then, with a shrug and a small smile, you bet she's digging in. Pudding is sweet and delicious after all~

She starts walking down the hallway, looking for any signs of anyone else around. If she's supposed to be on this ship and part of this crew, she definitely wants to meet everyone! Hello again, fleet. Specifically, I should say, those of you with magic talents of any kind...I can finally announce that my new study lounge is ready for general use.

[He briefly, shakily, turns the communicator around to show the room outfitted with bookcases, cabinet, and chairs, lit by the warm glow of candles mounted on metal wall sconces. After a moment, he turns it back around to his face] I've moved what little books we had on magic to this room exclusively. Additionally, I've amassed a collection of spell components free for general use to anyone that requires. You're of course welcome to add to it. I can't think of everything, given the array of magic systems represented. Perhaps most importantly, there is a set of workrooms adjacent that I've warded for safety, should anyone wish to do any practical work. If anyone so desires, one of them has a rather basic set-up for potion or alchemical work. I'm trained in neither, so if it's missing anything you're free to refine it as needed. Whatever your discipline, this should provide a safe space for us to work and study.

I don't intend to restrict access to the study completely, since that's far too much trouble, but I will provide keys to the workrooms for those that want to use them and keep their work safe. Naturally, space is limited, so some of you may have to share.

The lounge is accessible through the library. It's the only door, so I'm confident it won't be a trouble to find.

[He glances off-screen, towards the door that leads out to the library, a thought occurring to him] And while I'm on the subject, submissions for material written by fleet members is always open. If you feel inclined to write a study or a book of any kind, you can send the file to my communicator to be added to the library's digital catalog.

For those of you who might not know, I come from a world called Earth - or at least, one of the versions represented here. On my world, in the country I hail from, we celebrate something known as Thanksgiving roughly around this time of year if I've done my calculations correct. Some people call it Friendsgiving, but it's all the same really.

Essentially, it's a time to a give thanks for the good things in your life, your friends, and your family. In the spirit of that, I've arranged for a gathering at the Melting Pot - a thank you to Jarvis for that. Everyone who wishes to come is welcome.

I just thought we all could use a day, a place, to be together and to just enjoy each other. So I hope to see you there.

Action: The Melting Pot
[ The restaurant is set up to allow as much mingling as possible when people arrive - places to sit, of course, but there's gentle music playing for those who might want to dance and just to give some atmosphere (but not loud enough to stop conversation at all). Food and drink is laid out - things to nibble on rather than the usual feasts associated with a Thanksgiving. Not particularly ideal, but it's what could be managed. Unless, of course, anyone decided to bring something else to add to the spread.

Not a fancy party, to be sure, but it's warm and inviting, which is what Kirk had hoped for. A place for them all to come together and enjoy each other and just be glad they were all there and if not quite completely whole, then, well, able to be there. ]

[Felix does his best, the next day, to round up what crew is still on the ship for an announcement. He looks perhaps unaccountably worn out, and while he's been undertaking plenty of small physical repairs on the ship it's the magical fatigue that's getting to him now. If he cannot round them up for meeting, he will corner them later once they return to the ship.]

I realize we all have important tasks to be seen to, but it's important that I explain what I've done to the ship. In short, there are now protective wards on it that will help prevent further damage on the ship, which, yes, I realize is a little bit late. The tertiary function is what's the most important right now. Anyone entering the ship will not be able to attack anyone under the protection of the wards. Or rather, they'll be incapacitated for even trying. We had a similar system back home, but unfortunately the usual method for connecting you to wards of this nature are a bit more permanent than we have the luxury to implement...[He raises a hand, flashing the bright tattoo's covering it in a demonstrative and wry fashion]...so I opted for something different.

[He'd been carrying a bundle in his hands - a borrowed towel by the look of it - and opens it up to reveal an assortment of stones in varying colors and shapes, and pluck one of them out with two fingers]

These stones are keyed to the wards. You must have one of these on your person at all times. Do not lose it. Or the wards will not be able to protect you.

[He smiles a little, somewhat rueful] I had intended to have these set in jewelry to more easily be carried, but this will have to do for now. If we get out of this you can do what you like with it, but for now, keep it in your pocket.

((OOC: The wards on the Goldstone are now in place. Please note that Felix's intention is to put the attackers to sleep but the effect will rather be a short term stunning. This is confirmed to work on the Vieziri. Please see this post for more detailed information and to claim/customize your warding stone, even if your character is not currently aboard the Goldstone.))

Going back to his own ship was out of the question, and thus the wizard has been temporarily residing at Malúm. Quietly, he hates the feeling of isolation, but he hates even the thought of all that water. Returning of his own volition might be easier than that sudden immersion, but...better to be safe. Better not to risk a repeat.

    The fact that he's been haunting the bar and the Iskaulit in general has gone largely without acknowledgment to the staff, visitors, or his crew, but eventually the silence has to be broken. Well, in a manner of speaking.
    ]

    Regrettably, I haven't been able to join most of you on our current port of call. [He smiles thinly, which is a rather admirable job of covering up the half-truth in those words.] I'm sure it's quite a sight. I did have the chance at our last stop to see some of the impressive craftsmanship of the people who hail from this planet. Should anyone have a chance to pick up some pieces of jewelry - earrings, bracelets, or pins particularly, I could pay you back for it.

    You can find me aboard the Iskaulit if you want me for anything. [A sharper, though somewhat more empty smile bookends that message before signing off.

    Felix lounges about the bar for a time, but until the fleet leaves the system, Felix does his best to occupy himself aboard the large ship. When he isn't working or reading in his library, he spends time roaming the gardens, investigating other less traveled places like the lecture hall or mural, or even sitting quietly in the meditation room. I have had a few suggestions for hand-written archives separate of the network, so I would like to formally announce I will now accept submissions from fleet members for any written materials to be later added to the library. This could be guides about the fleet that the augments do not cover, records of our encounters you may wish to distance from the Atroma, or information about your worlds or skills or any other topic you feel would be useful to others.

    [Reluctantly] And, I suppose, if you fancy yourself a storyteller, any kind of fiction as well.

    For now you can add your submissions to the network and I will look into printing and bookbinding in the future, once we encounter a planet with those kinds of resources.

    [Because real books are much more fun.]

    ((OOC: If you would like to submit something, there is a form on my journal. Actually writing a book is not necessary, but there is an option to link to the text if you desire. This may be especially useful for user guides and fleet history))
