[As the broadcast begins, Felix is seen sitting in a large chair against a wall. The organic curve of it marks it as clearly belonging to the Iskaulit somewhere. Just at the edge the frame is a large window showing the slow drift of stars outside. He smiles warmly in greeting, as always.]

Hello again, fleet. Specifically, I should say, those of you with magic talents of any kind...I can finally announce that my new study lounge is ready for general use.

[He briefly, shakily, turns the communicator around to show the room outfitted with bookcases, cabinet, and chairs, lit by the warm glow of candles mounted on metal wall sconces. After a moment, he turns it back around to his face] I've moved what little books we had on magic to this room exclusively. Additionally, I've amassed a collection of spell components free for general use to anyone that requires. You're of course welcome to add to it. I can't think of everything, given the array of magic systems represented. Perhaps most importantly, there is a set of workrooms adjacent that I've warded for safety, should anyone wish to do any practical work. If anyone so desires, one of them has a rather basic set-up for potion or alchemical work. I'm trained in neither, so if it's missing anything you're free to refine it as needed. Whatever your discipline, this should provide a safe space for us to work and study.

I don't intend to restrict access to the study completely, since that's far too much trouble, but I will provide keys to the workrooms for those that want to use them and keep their work safe. Naturally, space is limited, so some of you may have to share.

The lounge is accessible through the library. It's the only door, so I'm confident it won't be a trouble to find.

[He glances off-screen, towards the door that leads out to the library, a thought occurring to him] And while I'm on the subject, submissions for material written by fleet members is always open. If you feel inclined to write a study or a book of any kind, you can send the file to my communicator to be added to the library's digital catalog.

Why thank you. [It's just a generic compliment, but he lights up anyway]

What request would that be? [Curious, because there's a lot of little things he mentioned.]

Compiling all of the manner of arcane knowledge in one locale, of course. There's a great number of texts from what I can tell.

[ And he is very eager to get his hands on it. ]

Ah. Well...a great number is a bit of an exaggeration. I think most of this came from the same planet, and the rest is what little I've been able to find here and there. Magic is a sadly scarce topic on the majority of these worlds. There is plenty of room for more.

[He'd rather be honest about the lackluster content of the study. If it inspires more donations, all the better]

I suppose it is my duty to add to your collection. I've got a great deal of knowledge on several aspects of magic.

[Knowledge: the only thing likely to make an attractive man even more appealing]

Is that so? I'm always interested to discuss things in detail. I was attempting a treatise on the nature of magic in general before I found myself here, but sadly all my notes got left behind.

What a shame, it sounds like a good read. Perhaps it is high time to revisit your treatise.

Before my current assignment, thaumaturgy was my field of study. My mentor and I worked on theoretical time magic. It *actually* worked, though it used the Fade as a catalyst where otherwise it might not have had the same reaction.

[ Honestly, he really doesn't want to find out, either. One travel in time was enough, thank you. ]

Part of the reason for setting up a place to study, though finding people willing to subject themselves to my prying questions is the harder part.

Speaking of...what is the purpose of time magic? Is it a kind of divination?

Maker, no. Its true purpose is traveling, though not in the way you may be thinking. Magic is constant, and time doesn't pass in the Fade. By harnessing it with the correct application of spell work, it is possible to harness time. Imagine for a moment- being able to see a future where certain decisions were made or events that have happened. Or, barring that, revisiting a moment in time you've had. The potential to stop certain things from coming to pass or getting to see a face that is nothing but a memory in your present.

[Imagine it Felix does - a cascade of terrible events running through his mind. What would he give to change those things? The hope and sadness mingle openly on his face for a moment before he crushes both with a grimace.]

Not easily or without risk, I imagine. And if previous patterns hold I would guess that the Fade isn't accessible to you here.

Great power does not and should not come easily. There is always margin for error when dealing with the potential to undo something as essential as time.

[ He frowns slightly, giving it some consideration. ]

It's certainly not the Fade, but it mimics it to a startling degree. Do you know much of the Fade?

Only a little. I read about it a little in conjunction with my research into lyrium...back when I had ready access to specific tomes. Something like a spiritual plane and a dream plane both, simplistically speaking.

Precisely. It is where mages draw their power from.

Do you remember which tomes you read previously?

No, I'm afraid it's been far too long for me to name them, and as I said, the nature of my research at the time was narrowly focused. It's the fact that magic sources like the Fade do not truly exist there and yet those who rely on them still receive their power is what interests me. My own magic doesn't have a specific source, but some theorize that it comes from a world of the spirit - which, I imagine, might not be too different from your Fade were we to find a way to access it in a meaningful way. Others still rely on nature - not necessarily flora and fauna in a general sense but an energy specific to their planet of origin. And yet, it denies none of us our abilities to be removed from them.

It seems you have been very busy, mon ami. There is nothing I can help you with here, of course [if he knew anything about magic he would have uncursed himself by now] but colour me impressed all the same.

Thank you. This has been an effort far too long in the making, I'm afraid. Perhaps I was being too selective.

Ah, some would call it selective, others would call it being discerning.

I'll make a copy of the books I've found and been given over the last year and add them to the collection. [ She pauses, thoughtful, before - ] Would you like me to write down potion recipes to add?

If you would like. It would certainly by helpful...and truth be told the reason I included the lab is largely in part to people from your world. It's not really an art where I come from. Well...the nature witches may have...but I've never spoken to one. [Whoops, tangent]

...what I mean to say is, yes. Anything you can provide would be welcome.

Well, you're speaking to one right now. I'm not sure how much of a typical witch I am, but I'm a witch all the same.

[ She appreciates the gesture despite the awkwardness. ]

Why thank you. It's been too long in coming, I'm afraid. For me, at least. I missed having my own study.

I'm sure most texts start out as a jumble, though, if you wanted to try and refine it.

It's, um... I don't know, I'm sure other people more learned than I am have already done this better than I have.

[Even so, he sends a document attached to the chat. Its already on the network anyway, no reason to hide it from Felix.]

[More seriously] That may or may not be true...but they are not here. Nor do they likely have the breadth of experience and the willingness it takes to look beyond your own system of magic.

Yes, of course. Not everyone can get by on pieces of chalk and few foci. Your ephemera was the perfect example I needed of things other magic users might require, and this space isn't merely my own.
