[ Padmé’s been asleep for about a month, but she still seems a little tired. As usual, she’s sitting in her office when she broadcasts. ]

Good morning, everyone. [ She smiles kindly, though it doesn’t dispel the glimmer of melancholy in her eyes. ] For those who do not know me, my name is Padmé Amidala. Apparently I took a month-long nap-- I apologize for any inconvenience I’ve caused for my crew. I may need a little help catching up on current events.

[ She pauses, unsure. ] I do have a different sort of question. Has anyone experienced side-effects from our stay on Hea-Guaa?

[ Because her telepathy augment upgrade seems to have finally kicked in. ]

[ Padmé is idly walking through the Heron. Officially, she’s checking their supplies and making sure there aren’t any pressing issues to take care of. She rather hopes there’s some kind of pressing issue, if only to take her mind off of everything and bring her back to her everyday life on the Fleet. But she’s clearly restless and distracted. ]

[ people she knows from home isn't really a surprise anymore, but barriss isn't sure how she feels about never having known that padmé was here. she has no real fondness for the senator, but out of all the politicians she knows, this is a decent one. one that people she trusts speak highly of, too.

so she feels compelled to respond to her broadcast. ]

Senator Amidala. I'm glad to see you well.

[ Padmé prides herself on her ability to keep her expressions in check and not give away what she's thinking or feeling without intending to. Not to strangers, at least.

But it fails her this time. Barriss' face brings up fresh memories of Ahsoka's trial. You were going to leave her to die, Padmé thinks viciously. Because she'd seen the verdict in Palpatine's eyes right before Anakin barged in with Barriss.

Padmé looks at her coldly, reminiscent of her days as Queen when she stared down her opponents with a cold, distant glare. It takes all of her skill to smooth it out to something more neutral. She hasn't done any of that yet. Maybe there's time to change it. Still, her anger is a cold, hard lump in her chest. ]

[ there's some sort of reaction in padmé's face, but barriss can't place it. suddenly, it occurs to her that if everyone else from home knows of her dramatic falling out with the order, the senator probably does, too. and barriss walked right into this. ]

I didn't even know you were here. [ there's a forced warmth to her voice. ] Oh, perhaps I should reintroduce myself. Our meetings have been brief. Barriss Offee. I was Luminara Unduli's padawan up until recently.

[ and it's not as if she ever talked much during those few times they wound up in the same room. ]

Yes, I remember. [ Padmé keeps her cool, professional demeanor. But she doesn't brush off Barriss right away for Ahsoka's sake.

Perhaps in the future she can manage more than a cold demeanor and short, sharp answers. But it's too difficult right now. ]

She's an excellent Jedi.

[ she should end this conversation here. she shouldn't have replied to begin with.

barriss is scolding herself even as her mouth opens again and she starts: ] I'm sure this is going to sound rude and I'm sorry, but I don't think there's a nice way to ask this and yet I feel like I have a right to know where I stand with those who know of me from our home galaxy. Have you experienced first hand my treason? I have no doubt you've heard of it regardless, you're friends with Ahsoka and Anakin, after all, but perhaps your opinion changes one way or the other.
