For a place that's kidnapped us unwillingly, there sure is a lot of personal freedom. Er, relatively, what with being in space and all. As for my augment, it's. . .ah. Lawyer.

You'd be correct. I'd be quite worried if the majority of people here were space pilots and they suddenly decided they needed legal representation.

If it makes you feel better, you can think of me as a navigator or a cartographer. I was a cartographer first before I was anything else.

Wait, you mean like a map maker? That's a far cry from a pirate. Useful for one, but definitely not the same. (In fact, why didn't she just say that before?!)

I am a thief. [Bluntly.] But I only steal from other pirates. If it makes you feel better, my crew didn't do a lot of looting and pillaging. [Alas.]

None of those skills are any good to me out here, though. There's no comparison between a brigantine sloop and a... whatever this is. [She waves a hand around.] Space ship.

That is vaguely reassuring, yes.

I don't know what a brigantine is, but for someone familiar with maps and navigation and the like, I would imagine it still comes second nature to you. Granted, for all I understand we're on a predetermined course, but should would ever stray, it is nice to have someone around with a sense of direction.

Theeeere's a vast difference between navigating an ocean and navigating space. Hardly any similarity at all. But I've got a head for numbers and equations, so that helps, and I'm learning more about star charts all the time. There's a few people in the Fleet who are at least used to the idea of space travel. One of them's teaching me.

[A compass is kinda useless when the idea of north ceases to have any meaning. Stupid space.]
