In my world, they are nothing so noble. Bandits unable to cope with the laws of the land, so they flee to the ocean and dismiss all their crimes as 'freedom'. The pirates of my world are naught but villains, thieves who steal the livelihood and lives of others. They are slavers who take children from their homes to sell them elsewhere.

... I understand that this is not the case for you, and I am full glad to hear it. But the title calls up unpleasant associations.

No... there's nothing noble about our chosen way of life. You're describing the pirates of my world right there, too. That sort of scum is everywhere. But every group has its exceptions.
